Why is everyone so hell bent on changing something that works fairly well as it is?

The semi trailing arms don't cause massive camber problems and if they did SWR can do a conversion for about $800.00 to make the rear camber adjustable. It's a sliding rose joint affair in the trailing arm, as it's been explained to me.

Remember when doing these conversions, if you have any aspirations on competing the car in anything, even club events, off standard & fabricated modifications, engineered or not, you end up in a sports sedans type class against just about anything that goes.

As for rack & pinion Vs steering box, why not just overhall the steering box? Take the slack out of the box and all the ball joints and arms and the stock R30 steering isn't all that bad. Doesn't give the feedback the R & P does, but it is still a fairly good system.

I think the dollars would be better spent somewhere else. JMHO

I hear what your saying regarding the rear end. Probably more trouble than it is worth.

One the the reasons that I am still very keen on the steering rack is that Nissan no longer sell the internal worm drive components for the steering box, so can't really properly overhaul the box.

Could you get the worm drive parts custom machined? If so where, and would it really be better value than doing a rack conversion and getting better feedback? (although someone has said I may lose some turning circle if I do the rack conversion)

Thank you Ghostrider for your feedback.

Cheers

Dennis the issue is finding new bits for R30 power steering boxes , when I had my DR30 I could not find rebuild parts anywhere . All the 2nd hand steering boxes were no better than mine .

I think you have two choices with R30's , you either find an alternative steering box or convert to power assisted rack and pinion steering .

The racers had non std quadrants and worms to make for faster steering so to speak .

Basically the steering and suspension issues are what made me sell that DR30 because the fixes were uneconomic . Easier to buy a car with multilink all round and five stud hubs and four piston calipers std etc etc .

You know what my R33 drives like , its no E36 M3 but closer to it than an R30/31 .

We differ because you like the classic and I like the tecnology , I just cant afford the best there is out there .

Must share an ale sometime , cheers A .
