thank you

The Auto was not stock. It had been tricked up with a 3000rpm high stall and shift kit. Its best was 13.4 @ willowbank http://www.autospeed.com/A_1050/page1.html

Unless you mod the stockie you are not going to get a very reasonable time, slicks or not.

Having said that the mods don't need to cost much to get you into a mid/low 13 in street trim should you want to.

I'd say if you scored the catback on your import from japan it could cost just a bit over $1000AUS for the mid 13 and just under $2000 for a low to flat 13. Regular 98 fuel and no slicks.

113mph terminal with only a pod filter, 3inch zorst and 1 bar of boost on a stock turbo?

Rrriiiiiiight...... (Quote Dr Evil) :P

What I find strange is.....

I was making ~150-155rwkw. on 12psi with an exhaust and AF's tuned using the Fuel pressure reg bleed kit.

Everything else was stock.

I had a run against Andy's R33 GTR which at the time was dead stock.

He had a 5000rpm clutch dump and I had a 4000rpm launch with not much wheel spin.

I held in front where his front was sitting at my rear wheel all the way through fourth gear.

Wouldn't this indicate a low 14 possibly even high 13?!?!

Also I had a Lightened Flywheel that was the only other mod.

I would take his word seeing as he probably did all the work to the car..

Hey Skyline King did it have stock ecu ?? i am asking this because i wanna know how much extra power you can get with stock by just using better fuel because most guys on here don't believe you can...

Thanks for your time..

So if you can run 12.8 with thoes mods listed a low 13 might not be out of the books with my setup...

Guest Skyline King

yes it had the stock ECU we turned the timing up alot as we used good octane fuel,REV210 believe it or not i'm only trying to help you guys in this topic and that is it's possible to run low 13's with a FAIRLY stock R33, i mean i have only devoted 6 years of my life understanding RB motors......so heck what would i know ( just a joke )

thanks

Sounds good Shell, wednesday week?

:burnout: :burnout: :burnout: :burnout:

how about wednesday this week? It's new years day...and the way I'll be feeling, i won't really give a **** about what anyone does to my car :bahaha:

Kabab with cheese,

I think you might be able to do it.

Here is what I think you will need.

Slicks at the right PSI

No ELF but some octane boost/avgas/toluene to overcome our shit fuels

Remove your air filter.

Every ounce of weight out of the car.

You will need to change the suspension to at least handle a +4K launch. (But now we are not really a stocker!)

And the most important thing will be lots of practice and someone who really knows how to quarter mile. And I dont know if your the one Kababy boy?

But seriously what do I know about 1/4 mile, nothing! But my father inlaw is an old timer Drag racer, he did all the design work behind Dragway Mags, as his brother is the owner. He said the tyres and suspension and the two big things other than Horses.

joel your time would have been a high 13 I reckon . and yes I'm serious. but it can all turn to shit at the track. cause thats a different game.

love the 60' time skyline king is that when he was looking for a tougher trans afterward. 1.8 is quite a feat. but very doable

Mick,

I appreciate that you worked on the car. Forgive me if I am a little skeptical due to the very high terminal speed. I'd love to be able to get that sort of terminal (as would anyone ) with so few mods.

I was under the impression that the stock ecu has a crap ignition timing curve. At least one not able to make too much use of the extra boost and octane. Did the car see any dyno around the time of the 12.8 / 113mph ? I'd be interested to know the result.

What brand/type of tyre was he running / mixture of tolunene / base idle timing ?

He didn't have an aftermarket intercooler did he?

I'd love to have a go and prove you right at my own expense.:P

Cheese in kebab's is just wrong :)

With the suspension i my car i was taking off at 5500rpm and still bogging down.. so i don't think you would have to change suspension that much.. maybe just let the tire pressure down..

geeze after reading this entire thread i'd love to get my car out onto a drag strip and let it rip

Now if only their were no crowds or people around so that i could practice first coz i've never driven on a track before.

Argh, this is a frustrating thread, so much misstruth's flying around.

Firstly Elf fuel will only give horsepower if the engine is tuned for the fuel. And the fuel will probably stuff up your oxygen sensor and cat and perhaps even rubber fuel lines.

Also a quicker 60 foot time will improve your trap speed, which is kind of obvious. if you get off to a better start then you have more track to  gain speed. That being said a "stock" (No exhaust no mods full stop) will be lucky to get into the 13s, however one with full exhaust pod and somehow tuned for the elf fuel, with slicks would go close to a 13.3

this maybe true? but EVERY run i have done plus all the runs i have seen my mates do have had bigger mph with crap 60 ft times eg my capri turbo run [email protected] yet ran a best time of [email protected] same day!

a COMPLETELY stock r33 gts with std everything as per the nissan factory i mean exhaust, filter everthing wouldn't do a 13 sec time, like someone else said some of you can't even run a 13 with mods so how u gonna do a low 13 stock? an auto r33 with full 3" exhaust, pod filter hks type, 12-14 psi, advanced timing and avgas will run a low 13 like a 13.2 or around this eg SUBZERO did it with try09? think it was? when it was mildly modded!

mick, how did you get a 1.8 60ft with the std auto? my gf's s14 auto's best was 2.16 for the [email protected]. for this i had to sit on the line and get it to just turn the tyres (boost) then go, reaction times were like 2.5 secs! a mate of mine run 12.8 @106mph in his auto z with similar mods to 4ced except it was optimax & nos octane booster!

I was looking around at a few web sites today and stumbled upon a Skyline Info page.

They said the R33 would run to 100km's in 6.2 secs where as the R32 would run in 6.3 secs.

Don't really know where they got those times from.. Apparently they were the official times from nissan.

I'll have to dig up the link if my history is there. Damn history is gone.. :)

  • 2 weeks later...

i only just read a post on here that says...

look at all these people with mods tho.... hicks is pulling 13.7 (BEST)

and he's got 14psi, POD, full zorst, FMIC.. all that...

if you can pull a high 13 stock, why spend $2500 on those mods

firstly, if he spent $2500 on all that it must be mega **** gear, and if its legit and he can only run 13.7 something is drastically wrong

.....stock r33 gtst, you would have to be a very f ****n awesome driver to get into 13's, im talkin no nothin, pod, suspension..nothin..ive got an r33 with a few minor mods and its quick but some people dont realise what it actually takes to run a good time...

eg, all those vx clubsport pieces of trash, think theyve got the quickest car in the world, claimed around low 14s stock, u watch all the heroes on the track and they r lucky if they get into the 14s...ive seen many 16s even

stock..the best u could hope for is a high 13..on a cold night, i wish it was quicker though....

Remember its not just all about 1/4 times. Its also about the seat of the pants feel.

Personally I'd rather a really quick car on street tyres, some thing quick 0-100.

I think just over 200rwkw is a good power level for the street much quicker and you start having to spend to much on tyres and to much worry about wheel spin.

200rwkw in a 32 with stock suspension will pull a low 13 anyhow.

Which is getting damn close to the 300k Porsche Territory.

Very similiar power (20-30rwkw) but the porche weighs an extra 300kg's.

    • Because all parts that are put into your papers usually are assigned a badging if they did not come with one. So other people can just check that badging to tell if it is the parts your papes outline. But my pipe has NOTHING on it whatsoever. No idea why this even passed as a Mines pipe to begin with. I see this going two ways: -nobody cares and it's a non-issue, but that is unlikely -the pipe will just have to be assigned a bagding, for sake of argument, a Mines logo, and the papers corrected accordingly If it interests you I will post what the actual solution ended up being. All I care about is that it has to sound equal length and nobody can screw me later on because of a pipe being illegal.
    • The fasteners to the pipe are not subject to TÜV I guess, if we really start putting nuts and bolts through technical tests I'm going to hang the people responsible and then myself. Usually on a modern-ish EU normed car, you would just replace the pipe. Because if you start hacking away at it and welding new pieces on the cops will definitely find a reason to tow your car. That is just how it is sadly. On old cars and imports with no clear "standard" stuff like that won't matter too much. Most cops or inspectors probably won't even really know what they are looking at. But there is experts for this stuff even among cops, and some of them know the rules to a T and even have extensive knowledge about many vehicles. For "just a pipe" to be legal it usually is included in a set of parts, like a complete intake kit or a full exhaust. For example my exhaust needs to pass a noise test, meaning they have a standardized test track with a set of instructions and they run the car through there 3x for an average noise value that is 75dB(a) at point x of the test track. If it's above that, fail. For a turbo setup to be put in your papers you have to do dyno runs, emissions testing etc. So quite costly
    • Would this not be the same for the exhaust you've posted up?  If your exhaust volume and emissions are fine, why does the brand of pipe matter?
    • The issue is more the fact that there is inspectors that deal with japanese cars a lot and they might know what a real Mines pipe looks like. And then they're gonna get antsy and not pass your car. But I'd have to talk to one of them about this, because you know as well as me that it's just a damn pipe and it effectively doesn't do anything. As I need to have my GT2860s and my exhaust setup (and the increase in HP) TÜV'd anyways maybe they can just correct the entry in the papers or assign a badge to the front pipe. I'm no expert either though, will inquire about this.     Thanks for the insight. Not sure if having a custom made pipe is good or not. Will find out in due time I suppose. Would be kind of funny if this was made in Germany though.
    • See this is a really tricky topic as technically the same rules apply to all cars but for cars but there is a difference. If you want to modify a car like the Skyline which never existed here you have a bit more freedom as they do not adhere to EU specs anyway. Any modification you do has to be in dividually checked anyway so as long as one of the inspectors think it's ok and within the TÜV ruleset you can get stuff like a top secret rear diffuser put in your papers. Which frankly would need a shitload of tests and certificates for EU spec cars, like a 2010 BMW M3 for example. But if you DO run these tests and all tests come out ok (safety stuff for the most part) there is no problem running such a part legally. It's just way too expensive to do for a single person on one car. The most touchy parts are emissions related mods, like an exhaust, turbos, air intakes. If it makes noise or alters the carbon emissions it's essentially illegal until you prove it's not. Meaning it doesn't exceed noise limits or have worse carbon emissions. I'd say for hoses if you replace them same same it doesn't matter what material they are or what brand you use. Same for nuts and bolts usually, they won't go and specifically check that your water hoses and some bolts are 100% OEM parts, that is nonsense.
