i own a R32 GTR for a lappo, & a 10sec Rx3 coupe, rotaries are a cheap way to go fast! my rx3 runs 10.63 on a std import 13b eng, with a high flow turbo. very cheap & very easy to do. now im currently porting the eng & im going to run a large turbo (GT42 ..T76) & that will push the car into the 9sec bracket! early rx's hold their value very well & its going up every day!

Hold on, hold on. In one revolution of a rotary engine 100% of its combustion chambers ignite (if you understand what I mean). In one revolution of a cylinder engine 50% of its combustion chambers ignite (not taking into account 5 and 7 cylinder engines BMW produced). So the ratio is 1:2. i.e. Rotary conumes twice more air and fuel than the cylinder engine of the same displacement.

However the rotary still makes 3 power strokes.

with the rotaries combustion cycle for one complete revolution of a rotary it fires 6 times. so a 2 rotor 12a,13b is the equivalent of a 6 cylinder and a 20b 3 rotor is the equal to a 9 cylinder engine

for me I love the fact that something so small can create such a great amount of power and I LOVE the sound of a rotary especially the 20B mmmmmmmmmmmm

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but I was under the impression that it wasn't really as easy as putting on a high flowed turbo to a standard engine and then running 10's. Don't you still need engine management, bigger fuel system etc...?

I had a 12A bridgeport RX7 for about 2 years. Most people have answered this thread but I thought id add my bit..

They Rev hard.. And I mean hard.. I changed gears at about 6'000 rpm and it would pull very hard.. pull very hard towards the bank! As it used so much damn fuel it wasnt funny, Id put in about $45 in and get about 250ks from it.

True, engine management would be a must have and if you wanted to run 10's then yeah I think you would need a bigger fuel system.

Dammm... I want a rotary now... No actually... I want a ZTUNE first... then an RX7. :drooling: Rotaries sound like a lota fun, I like the idea of putting a 'f#ck off how big is that' turbo under the bonnet. I seen the RX7 with licence plate "13G" with a set up like that... was so nice.

That 13g rx7 (can see it on city performance website) actualy has a 13g engine in it, which is a factory mazda race engine with factory peripheral ports.

yeah I had a good look at it in person probably about 7 months back on a cruze, it is an amazing RX7 thats for sure.

Meh, mine made 400hp on 6psi so it doesn't seem that odd.

Rotaries compare like this

13b comparable to a 2.4 or 2.6 L 4 or 6 cylinder piston, depending on who you talk to.

Mazda actually measure the displacement the "proper" way, if you want to compare a rotary to a pistons displacement you have to double it.

so,

13b = 2.6L

20b = 4.0L

26b = 5.2L

rough guide but you get the idea
