I'm the master of flamage. All you need is the aforementioned racing cat, several laps at Phillip Island and blow a turbo hose off at full noise in fifth at 240kmh. The resulting rich mixture burns in the very hot exhaust and results in flames 1-2m long behind the car. Continue driving long enough (say to the pit back entrance) and it can result in a completely melted rear bumper and tail light.

Plus I hate tail-gaters, before I just used to stop the car, get out and start yelling, now I just give it a rev.......the look on their face, priceless.

Well if another jap car is going behind you to closely and u do that, melt the core on their front mounf (if they have one) and you will be paying for it :)

Let's say a jap car was tail-gaiting me (they usually don't, its usually holdens or fords or people annoying me on purpose, I won't get upset if they're old, a mother, or disabled. But that's it!) and I let out a flame, and miraculously, it also burnt the FMIC on this car, how in the hell would they get me to pay? Make me pull over? LoL

How can they find out if you have a gutted cat?

Aside from seeing your car flaming on overrun, they'll smell it. The exhaust will smell a lot different to one that's filtering noxious chemicals like its meant to.

If you've been doing it for a while, there's a good chance bits of your bumper have melted (maybe not as bad as that NS.com photo, but I have seen the bumpers of some cars with "damaged" cats that have had small spot fires around the tip after a track session.

As for the "how could I get caught" thing, the mobile EPA guys have emissions gear and will pick you up in an instant.

If its just some random patrol car, they'll see the flame / damaged bumper and smell something weird. They might not be able to tell if you've got a punched-out cat by looking at it, but with the bizarre smell (and the sight of flames) they've got reasonable grounds to red-sticker you because your car is dangerously unroadworthy.

They'll tow your car to the RTA and/or EPA, where you'll get bent over.

as many people know, these forums ARE viewed by authorities.

Given the light of recent hoon publicity, just dont forget to state that the race cats etc are used only on track days and official race events. This is a pretty good forum with fairly sensible members, so talking about throwing flames anywhere other than on the race track isnt the best thing for the forum.

OK here is the vid. Doesn't take long (this was coming to turn 4 but the hose blew at the start finish line at PI) and can do some serious cosmetic damage. Forget about wanting flames!!

Nowhere near as expensive. I have the tailight replaced, the new bumper is here waiting for paint and fitting and the car is still sporting track spec ally sheet. About $300 to fix and I didn't miss a lap.

My problem was not seeing the flames, just saw the heat shimmer as I rolled around but that is expected after some hot laps. I was in the helmet, pulled way down into the seat and was watching for cars coming as turn 3 is 180kmh for me and faster for others. Flaggies didn't help with confusing flag signals. Ultimately no real danger, just cosmetic damage.
