Me too, sounds like the only options for us are the hi-flow VG30 hybrid or the hpInabox GT30, have I missed anything???

The only other option that I can think of is the HKS GT2835 pro s but thats $4000 or so :{

All I want is a nice efficient .8# turbine a/r internal gate turbo that makes close to 280rwkw without spending a fortune on a hks item. :cheers:

just got an email back from michael at gcg in regards to fitting a larger exhaust housing for internal wastegate, im looking at $990 plus $100.00 to adapt to gt30. ive got pics of turbo front and rear, i do not know how to post them but if someone wants to give me there email address i can send photos and if someone knows how to post them up that would be great.

You just need to make the files less than 105 kB, use photoshop or something to reduce their actual size.

Then use advanced reply button, and "Manage Attachments"

Browse to the pictures, press upload once all the pics are found, wait for the upload to finish, then press submit.

BigCarl: You said that you made 260 from you hpInaBox GT30, what are your other mods to reach this, ie fuel system (injectors??). How does this turb compare to your old hi-flow?

gt30 is producing 30rwkws more than gcg turbo at same boost with same mods, id like to see how the gt30 would go with the vg30 exhaust housing , i think with cams aswell which iam getting fitted as we speak. my mods include 600x300x80mm front mount intercooler utilising stock pipeing. gt30 turbo with a/r 70 comp cover , a/r .63 rb25 exhaust housing. low mount stainless exhaust manifold, ces racing 3inch split dump pipe into 3 inch exhaust , 3 inch cat, 3 inch inlet to barrel style muffler with 4.5 inch tip. 550cc/min injectors , bosche 600hp fuel pump. exedy hyper single plate clutch. i think ive included eveything. now my turbo pulled 230rwkws at 13psi and 260rwkws at 20psi on shootout mode, which means ive got a huge restriction somewhere holding back power because as someone mentioned on these forums that i should be pulling 7rwkws for every pound od boost over 13 psi, which would result in 7psi x 7rwkws = 42rwkws plus 230rwkws ; which would equate to 272rwkws. which is where im at now . im getting step one tomei poncams with 256 degrees duration 8.5mm lift as we speak which sk seems to think could net up to 15rwkws more peak power and up to 25rwkws more across the power curve. im also dropping the cr from 9 to 1 to 8.5 to 1, so i can run more boost safely . and further down the track i will probably change exhaust housings too. i will post up my shootout graph in the weeks to come let you know how i go.

As the Horsepowerinabox turbo uses the .7 comp cover this combined with the VG30DET exhaust a/r would most probably make more power than the GCG item that runs the stock .4 (I think it is) RB25 comp cover.

Inabox, Would you be willing to offer such an item IF the vg30det exhaust housing was supplied?

The VG30 exhaust is an advantage over the RB25. We can certainly do a GT30 for you with a supplied VG30 Exhaust. They are hard to find, so if you have a supply bring it on.

The long term solution is a Garrett range of T3 units for the RB. They have been on a promise for 18 months..

Thats not what Garrett used to call their "GT30R" , now called the GT3076R .

The cartridge in the picture shown has a 1976 era T04S compressor wheel and .70ARR T04S compressor cover . The most up to date "GT30R" uses the BCI-18 series compressor with six full and six splitter blades . It's lighter and stronger than the T04S wheel and capable of higher revs , it also requires less turbine generated torque to excite it meaning less slip losses and higher turbine efficiency .

The current version's turbo part no is 700382-12 or cartridge (CHRA) no 700177-7 . It's usually sold with a port shrouded .60ARR T04E compressor cover as well . The seller is not going to like this but your turbo is a less costly item to source so easy to sell cheaply .

Just the same as you would not swap your 90's era RB for an L series I would not swap an early 90's compressor for a mid 70's one . HKS knew the difference and that's why their 56 trim GT3037 series all use the 700177-7 cartridge .

Hey dude, those aren't my pics, they are Bigcarls. I just posted them for him.

I'm not sure of the turbo or specs.

Unless you are talking about the picture of the whole turbo including compressor cover, bearing cartridge, exhaust housing and dump pipe.

If you are, I'm only buying it for the exhaust housing, hence it will be machined for the high flow anyway.

I don't know heaps about turbos, so if you have some more suggestions about exhuast housings for a highflow, let us know, as it seems some really really good gains are possible just from freeing up the exhuast flow.

All help appreciated.

What the????? I should stop reading these forums.... You are suggesting that we have circa 1970 comp wheel to use in turbos to stitch up the unsuspecting public??? I don't think so. The product is a new unit sourced from Garrett Australia within the last 6 months as a GT30. We use a SB8005A turbo and machine a Nissan exhaust to suit.. there is no deception, obselete parts or cheaper materials used to make a quick buck.

The turbo IS as sold with no sinister plot to pass off cheaper parts. The unit cost is the same for the range of GT30 through to GT3540/GT35R/whatever part number garrett are using today, so there is no logical reason to substitute wheels/cores and I assure you we haven't. It is offered/sold to fill a need in the marketplace. To provide a solution for a bolt on RB internal.

if i go to garretts website it has this turbo

Turbochargers > GT30 Family > GT3076R - 700382 - 12

and its only like half a turbo . does that mean I could get that bit and chuck the back bit from the HPIAB rb25 bolt on turbo and get a bolt on 90s gt30 ?

sorry this is a bit beyond me ......... but what do i do with half a turbo ? this has come up before the good gt30 vs the bad gt30 and i wasnt able to get anywhere then either .

Please don't: thrashing these details and ideas out is great for those of us who are trying to learn about turbos. It also provides a nice point of reference if someone brings up the same issues at a later date.
