hi, it sounds a bit worse than it should be. When the VLs came out in NZ you had a choice of RB20E or RB30E, apparently the RB30 was more economical because you didnt have to thrash it to get any decent performance out of it. So it may not get as good as you would think for a non-turbo. My Turbo GTS4 gets about 350-400 around town on a tank.

what temp is it running at - i had a car with a stuck thermostat. Didnt warm up real quick and temp fluctuated on the highway - down to cold. New therm gave anoter 40km a tank

Just see where your temp sits.

Run some good injector cleaner (the concentrate) I tnink it is redex (about $12) but soes a lot of tanks.

Clean the AFM with contact cleaner. pump the tyres up.

There the cheap options...

02 sensor could be stuffed like baseliez is saying. you could replace that for about 50 or 60, may be wotrth it - unless you get exhaust gas analysis to see what AFR it is running at idle and part throttle

if temp remains at 1/2 most of the time then your thermo is probably ok.

Other things to change -

fuel filter,

and possibly air filter and spark plugs.

02 sensor more likely though.

I dont think the responsiveness has much to do with it unless you are driving it a lot harder

try some fuel injector cleaner.. I have always been dubious about them, but after replacing everything else, and the o2 sensor.. injector cleaner *seems* to have made the biggest difference.

Gone from about 350 a tank, up to 500 a tank, mix of city and highway driving... all with a bottle of injector cleaner. That is pretty much going from 15L/100km back down to 12L/100km(!). This is on an RB20DET, and I am usually fairly heavy footed.

managed to get 600km (1/2 highway driving) out of R32 gtst sedan with stock rb20det (cat back exhaust and filter panel), so 550km in ceffy is quite possible??

600km was done with never reving it past 3000 rpm, keeping it off boost

    • This could be sold and shipped to the US for many gold pieces. RMS has no say in that. Ask various Western Sydney inhabitants how it works.
    • Ha ha ha, mine loves to spend, all on the dogs (they're our kids, and her spending would likely rival that of some people raising children!) the only benefit is, her spending is tax deductible as she runs a business in the dog industry 😛 The above all means she can spend race car budget quicker than I can. 😛 That and a lot of the things I want are very expensive, and I can be a bit "you want how much for that?!" And at other times overly impulsive. Or I start the w days of research, get to day 1.5 and get really annoyed that no one will advertise actual specifics and it's just marketting BS and I go "well, now I don't want anything to do with that now!" Also I hate paying lots of money for something I can make from $50 in materials. Then I get the shits halfway through making things and wonder why others who just buy parts have more fun... 😛
    • Their 240Z with the RB26 would be a real nice thing to have in a garage to come out for an occasional weekend cruise It's such a cool thing in so many ways Sadly, we have a blue 240Z shell that I walk past every day, just sitting outside a shed at work, it has been slowly disintegrating and falling apart into the ground for the last few years, the owner cannot be found, and I am unable to "claim it" I've been told by work and the RMS, the rust in the body is excessive though, and it has had most of the salvageable stuff, like panels, trim and switch gear stripped off it over the last year or two, work keeps threatening to put it in one of our metal scrap bins, I wish they did though, as it makes Mark sad walking past it
    • Good tips, I like it! 😂😂 My wife is a LOT more frugal than me so it's only me we need to worry about! A splurge to her is buying 2 pairs of socks in one visit at Kmart!
    • Haha, the appropriate response to the question "Is this new?" is "I've had this for a while.". With the unspoken small print that a while may be the time since this morning or five years ago   And to be fair I learned that from the best, i.e. my wife. Because it goes both ways.
