The OSG sequential is meant to be the strongest of the bunch rated at 1500hp, but its a relatively "new" product so theres not many good/bad stories about it yet. The hollinger is a nice box, but a few rumors I hear of having a very low service life and they can and do break on high hp cars. Hollinger also do not make a H pattern box anymore, only sequential.

A friend of mine is running an OSG sequential and it was chosen over all the above mentioned boxes, as it "looked" the strongest and was rated for the highest hp out of all of them (and the workshop that built the car have seen some Hollinger failures and reccomended the OSG... very big workship in Sydney btw :)). The car is very fresh, ill see if he can post in here once he gets some good use out of it.

Why dont you tell us what hp you are running, then im sure some people can make some better suggestions. Youve already said the Hollinger is out of your price bracket (20,000 plus), and buy the time you grab a brand new Trust H pattern with the uprated input shafts and postage etc, youre going to be coming damn close to the price of the OSG box from Otomoto. If youre running 650hp and under, id suggest talk to PPG (Pfitzner) and get one of their dog sets and uprated shafts.

Ok, stupid question 101:  does the OS G gearset simply fit in the existing GT-R gearbox case?

Cheers,

Lucien.

Basically...

But why are these gearboxes braking? Just because you can do clutchless gear changes doenst mean you can do flat changes without an ECu momentarily cuting ignition?????

Does it come down to a certain extent that ppl dont shift correctly...which brings me to the question. :D

Does anyone actually have any 1st hand experience with these boxes and how you are meant to shift with them?

Gentlemen,

i will be running around 850 hp at crank. RB30 bottom end and 26 head with extensive mods to both, Innovative turbo etc etc..

The chap with Purple 32 and a dog box for sale has already contacted me and we are still talking.

Mashrock i contacted you 3 weeks ago about your box but you replied that it was not for sale at the time.

Now you guys will all hate me for this but i am staryting to lean towards some engineering fabriction time and putting a bullet proof tricked up 2 speed behind it and maintain the 4wd aspect.

It appears that it costs alot for gearbox's that still BREAK, i only want for strip not track.

If you still talking to me , any one with experience here?

I saw Mick featured in ZOOM mag with a two speed, any one know how i can get hold of him for advice.

Still not sure exactly what direction to go in. Simply looking for bullet proof performance.

I know this box isn't in the same league but has anyone seen a 6 speed getrag break as was talk to the tuner of markr34gtr cars and his opinion was they were a pretty good box there not running it now in the 9sec drag car but they used and abused it for sometime with no problems. It just i'm considering going this way as my requirement arn't at suggest a high hp level and it seems the getrag is strong than the std 5 speed.

pete

ps anyone wants to unload a getrag let me know cheers

pnblight:  You mean the one that's in the R34 GT-R?  I fairly sure Troy (ylwgtr2) managed to mangle his.

Lucien.

yes i believe they ran the r34 pretty hard for awhile then got to a point where they transferred the motor to the r32 as they didnt want to cut a r34 gtr vspec to go drag racing. And do you know what broke in the getrag etc and at what hp level he was running.

cheers

I can't find the post anywhere, but I distinctly remember a post by Troy with pictures of the busted gears. Maybe PM him.

Lucien.

I have used the ppg dog box in my car for about the last 18 mounths and have had no problems at all. This box has been abused(me learning to drive it and drag raced) as well as a lot of street driving.I lent this box to a friend for a while and they ran a 10.6 second pass in it as well.I run 600rwhp and my friend ran 700rwhp he now also has brought a box and runs 799rwhp,neither of us has broken one or had any problems these boxes are great ,easy to drive on the street the only down side is they are a little loud.Parts are in stock here in Australia and they are very helpfull.Iwould recommend this box to anybody.Hope this helps.

the v161 getrag that the supra and the R34 GTR use is a steaming pile of poo...... 3rd gear especially.....there noisy and notchy...there fine when you get them into gear....but its getting them into gear thats the drama....they like to strip the synchro meshing teeth off the gears....nissan dont sell parts to rebuild these gearbox's but fortunatly toyoya do....ask snowman....he has broken his...twice

The 5 speed getrag in the 32/33 gtr is stronger than the 6 speed in the 34gtr. The best of the bunch is the 33 series 3 due to the larger syncros & hubs. If you're running a 34 its not just a case of throwing in the 32/33 box as the diff ratios are different.

I've heard of a few trust dog boxes destroyed at around 500rwkw but not OS Giken gear sets at this power level, bonus is they are still a heli cut gear set so street driving is more pleasurable.

PPG are rubbish

What is this comment based on? Anything to explain why you said this as i am sure everyone is curious why you are claiming them to be rubbish, i sure am.

I don't know anything about these gearboxes so i am just interested to find out like most other people here.

Also, about the ikeya shifters, i read in hpi i think that they are slower shifting and more awkard then the stock shifter, great idea but just seems they didn't get it 100% right.

Oh and not that it really means anything but I WIN is running a Pfitzner gearbox in his 33 GTR now, might be worth asking him how its handling the power. If you want to pm him his username on here is MR33.

    • Hi guys, Sorry to butt in and take it slightly off course, although still on the VCAM subject.  I had VCAM put into my Tomei 2.8 bottom end and I struggle to take off because the engine has very little torque caused by VERY low dynamic compression at 60psi. But once off the mark and especially on boost, the engine rev happily all the way to 8000rpm and makes 630hp at 20psi of boost on E85 at the rear hubs. Has anyone had any similar experience or any suggestions on what might cause this low compression at low rpm? I am in the process of converting it into a 8hp transmission and with this low torque, the engine would not even stay running until the throttle is opened to more than 30% and then I loose all vacuum.
    • Last year I got a set of MCA street coilovers for my turbo Forester after my son hitting a concrete gutter/wall on a small bridge causing the whole drivers side suspension to get bent because the rain just made the car slide out I love them, I think they were $2400. even had a hiccup of have the wrong hub configuration (my fault) so got onto MCA and they sent the correct shock ends overnight parts from QLD, for free!  I was very impressed with their customer service and quality of the product
    • They've had some weird failures on their brake actuators. One of them was because they added some kind of lubricant to the factory fill brake fluid that aftermarket brake fluid didn't have so it would affect the seals. Another was just mysterious, probably internal corrosion or something eating away at Prius brake actuators. Parts alone for those are a few thousand USD so not a cheap fix.
