Hey people - i'm trying to find out if the keys for 1998 R33 gts-t SII are chipped or not . My belief is they aren't as it doesn't come with any form of immobiliser with the car, however the locksmith was telling me they did.

I want to know if I can get a spare cut at a locksmith - or whether I have to spend $100 to get one from nissan?

Also - will anything happen if I use one that doesn't have a chip (be like it having a flat battery in it) I think the locksmith was a punk telling me not to do it.

-> So - anyone know? i've read a previous thread and that was for a Gt-t and their worked, i'm assuming R33 will be the same (being older)..

Cheers,

Cheers everyone, confirmed my thoughts and also what I was told by the nissan guy - who has been very helpful with telling me a number of things that I wouldn't normally know.

Told me the following:

1. To get a key with the central locking remote on it will cost me $375

2. The key design dates back to the 80's and you can just get one cut anywhere

3. one from nissan with black nissan rubber on it will cost $12

4. straight key will cost $8..

soooo.. think i'll just go and get one cut.. and tell the lady to shut up and key my key damnit!! :)
