Depends on the engine you upgrade to, depends on what needs to be done.

Eg. Your brakes might be smaller, hence they might need to be upgraded, there are other factors like, engineering (hence if you dont have it your insurance,, well what insurance? it'll be void (happened to a mate))

Ecu, and wiring? you need to get this done.. Also on your plate stating the year and model will state the engine and it'll say something like RB20DE and the RTA know that you would have an RB20DET so they will know it was a transplant.

There are alot of hassles, and considering theyre only going for $8,000-$11,000 you can pick them up for, i would just sell and get a new one, unless you were going unique with an RB26DETT transplant, but then again brakes, ecu, harness, engineering + engine mounts will need some attenton.

Hope this helps??

I'm interested in this too, however i just want to add a turbo(even stock) to my rb20de in the future sometime, someone says it can be done for like $500-600 for the turbo.

Excluding the brakes etc......how much might this cost in total?.......

well in the tradin post today there was lots of rb20det's wif looms computer and gear boxes for around the 1400 mark and it u have all this is just a straight bolt in. and the only other thing u will need is a turbo fuel pump.correct me if im wrong. and seen as the car is also made wif the turbo motor it wouldnt be very hard to get it legal. all u would need is the turbo brakes. and i got my car from an importer for a low price so i still see it as cheeper to do this than to sell it but for others it maybe different. and one with any corrections to my post please feel free to state the facts as i maybe wrong, cheers

Basically, when you put the turbo on you will need to RE COMPLY the car, to get compliance plates to read RB20DET, to go with the number plates and engine number, not to mention the brakes which should bolt on anyways., thinking you'd be looking around the $2,500-$3,000 to buy engine, G/Box, loom, comp, brakes, install, service and tune(a definate), plus re comply, and anything else they pick you on. Could even be more. Seriously dude, If you got the car cheap, then you could sell it with a fractional profit, use that money and the money you would spend on the turbo motor/install and buy a turbo model that might even come with a stereo or a front mount or a few extras.

Thats my 2 bob :uh-huh:

if you go from no turbs to tubs ull need the brakes to match (size and thickness brake booster) tyres to match place card. dnt even ask bout the rest. just save ur $$$$$ and buy a turbo car when you can afford the car plus petrol costs and insurance and speeding fines and defect costs and etc. shall i go on?????????? buy a commondore and just let the cops give you a good rodgering and live the rest of ur life with with a sore ass
