Who pays what?

Just a quick question. I am purchasing a used car from a private sale, do I pay him the purchase price plus the stamp duty etc? The reason I ask is when I sold my last car the dude payed me the purchase price and thats it. This dude is telling me that I pay him the purchase price and then the government charges.

You only pay stamp duty to a licensed dealer. If i remember correctly you pay stamp duty when you change over the rego.

but yeah.. you never pay it to the seller..
