My friend who bought my r33 gts-t took the car in for a tune yesterday @ ICE performance (had S-AFC 2, but I never got it tuned due to loss of licence) and got 185rwkw on stock boost!, they jacked the boost upto 0.75bar and got 205rwkw. AFR's seems good sitting on 12 or there abouts. Nigel thinks the stock turbo has been modified/hiflowed because the thing is pulling awesome power for what should be a 'stock turbo'. He recommended to get the turbo checked out to see what has been done it. A very pleasant surprise! I'll get my friend to post up the dyno graph. Current mods on the car are FMIC, 3" exhaust with hiflow cat (still stock dump), pod with CAI and a EVC 4. I think it's excellent power for the what the current mods are.

hang on that sounds a little odd. you said stock dump. if it was a modified turbo or what not then wouldn't it just choke more on the stock dump and make the graph a bit wonky in the top end when on full song. more air flow and the stocker dump sounds to me like it would choke more (in theory i guess?)

Nigel is pretty good if he can be bothered spending the time to do it properly.

When I had mine tuned, he stopped at a certain point, but I still wasn't happy with my A/F ratios. I asked him to keep going until it was flat.

but yes it does read high.

Before my tune, I saw about 168rwkw, and 200 after.

i think 160 and 190rwkw are more realistic in my case.

No it wasn't done in shootout mode unfortunately, it would've been great if my friend (pmgrz2) got a shootout mode. The power curve after 4.5k rpm shoots straight up. Nigel reckons things could get interesting if a powerfc + injectors was added into the equation.. and not to mention 1-1.1 bar of boost  (possible 230-240rwkw) Also the AFM is ****ed atm too so i'll get my friend to pop in a Z32 AFM while he's at it; nigel had to adjust the tune abit because of the stuffed AFM. But we'll wait and see when we get the turbo inspected when my mate finally has cash again. Damn now i really regret selling the car. :(

Paulr33: Yes still stock dump; and while my friend questioned about getting it changed nigel said it's probably not worth the money you spend with the gains you'll get. The top end is choking a little with it, as you can see the power curve drop off (when pmgrz2 posts the dyno); even when nigel leaned it out a little, so he then richened the top end abit again to make it safer. The AFR generally sits around 12. The midrange though is pretty good from my pov.

Also what's your opinions on the exhaust cam gear; I'm a firm believer of them as i've seen alot of awesome results with them on s1 gts-t's. the midrange gain is pretty good; even upto 20rwkw i've seen in some cases (in the midrange, not the end power figure). I reckon the car would drive alot happier on the street, but most tuners that my friend has taken the car too has recommended against due to not gaining much.

I'd also like to thank ICE performance on behalf of my friend for great service and tune. Absolutely top stuff and they'll definately be getting more business from my friend. Just out of curiosity, does ICE have a 4wd dyno?

yeah its a 4wd dyno. did he recommend change to a bigger dump pipe or split one?

i was disappointed at my tune and they didnt have much to say and sorta just said yeah its ok

oh well. ive got some crap to sort out (clutch + 3" split dump) and then im gonna try some of my own stuff and see what power i can get.

Awesome, I've just purchased a MY03 WRX so they'll be able to work on the car. ;)

My friend only enquired about a larger dump if i recall correctly, but from point of view i'd like to extract as much out of the current turbo as possible, so I'd put on a split dump (if i was my friend) and some exhaust cam gears for some more midrange oomph.

they told me cam gears do jack all and that dump change wont make much of a difference on the boost im running (0.80bar). im getting my split dump fitted on monday we'll find out hey. they said my power is down cos the boost im running

    • Can't be a Futjitsubo as those are made with a flex piece and Reimax is smaller in pipe diameter. If anything it is closest to a Mines pipe, but evidently it is not an actual Mines pipe.   Classic word humor
    • Alright I will try to not forget.   As GTSboy replied to you already, problem is mainly the mismatch between the actual exhaust part and the denomination in the papers. That basically just looks like tampering to a cop, if they were to check your car and notice. If it had been done right they would have clarified it to be a custom pipe and just given it a certain part number that you have to engrave or weld onto the pipe. I will definitely inquire on what to do. Changing the pipe wouldn't be my favorite solution as it costs a bunch of money and the cat was fitted with the front pipe and exhaust under the car, and if the front pipe flange does not sit in the OEM location the cat will need to be refit for any other pipe to work. It also usually doesn't need a brand name or something like that, but more something like a part number. Usually for exhaust parts, on silencers and cat units specifically, there is a badge that reads the certificate number that belongs to these exhaust parts under EU regulation. You get these numbers after you put a part or group of parts through the tedious testing according to EU vehicle legislation and they pass. You can find these "part numbers" on various parts throughout a EU vehicle. On windows, headlights, engine parts, seat belts and so on. All these parts have gone through standardized testing and acquired a so called ECE or EG Certificate that makes them legal to use by themselves in all countries that adhere to these standards. You can also not alter these parts in any way, if you do they become illegal. An example for stampings on an exterior lighting part, the people who need to know can find the documentation for this unit in a database. I do not know what all the standards and so on mean.
    • If that was the case I suppose you could call it "Mein's" brand....  ... I'll see myself out... 😅
    • with the car running (runs fine when temp is cold), I unplugged the MAF and the car stalled.  I have already cleaned it a week ago.  I unplugged the O2 sensor from the left side of the vehicle, and the car was still running.  I let it idle for about 5-7 minutes and shut it off, to see if it would restart, and it did not.  It cranks but doesn't start after engine temp gets up to normal range.   I still need to look at the coolant temp sensor, is this one at the top or bottom of the radiator? Or is it one of the sensor threaded into the T-stat housing?
