$150 to person who fixes my leak between manifold and turbo

OK just to make life a lil harder and more expensive.... about 50% of the time if the leak has been there for a while there is a very good chance that the surfaces of the turbo and the manifold are slightly warped, this means that even with a new gasket, bolts and nuts you will still have the leak. This is exactly what happened to me so I know from experience. The only thing to do is remove the manifold and the turbo and take them to a turbo specialist to have both surfaces machined. While this in its self doesn't cost much there is about a 90% chance that you will snap at least one or more manifold bolts when removing them, you will then need to pay some one to remove the bit thats left and this cost a fair bit. On mine I snapped 4 of the bolts, I got one out with an extractor kit but the others I screwed up and had to pay for some one to do it.

This is the very worse case senario but as I said if the leak has been there a while it could be a problem.

Today I decided to get a workshop to fix my exhaust leak while also high flowing the stock R33 turbo and turning my cat back exhaust into an exhaust from turbo back with high flow cat.

At one place I visited today the salesman said that a powerFC is not simply a plug and play unit. Without tuning its limited to 3000rpm. He quoted something like $1800 for the powerFC + H/C or $3500 fitted + tuned.

From what I could understand from Merli, I could get it tuned for about 2-$300 and can buy a new powerFC + H/C through someone on these forums for $1500.

I'm thinking of getting a greddy profec B EBC, what costs other than purchasing the unit are involved? Do you need to be a wizzard at electronics to fit it, do you need to put your car on the dyno to adjust the boost settings?

I was under the impression that you can drive the car no problems with the PowerFC. It has default maps that are similiar but apparently a little better compared to the standard ECU.

Also if you are getting a turbo highflowed have a serious look at GCG turbo's.

There have two options.

Both are ball bearing and are very responsive turbo's.

Have a serious think about GCG.

Bredanf has the stage 2 500hp from GCG and apparently makes full boost by 3500rpm. ~260rwkw.

Nothing worse than a lagging turbo for the street. :P

Good Bosh 044 Fuel Pump, Adjustable Fuel Pressure regulator and the powerFC with the Stage 2 turbo and providing you have the rest (exhaust & FMIC) you will see 260rwkw.

MRK25T...... The Power FC is straight swap plug in and go. It does everything the nissan one does but has different mapping to start off with as it is performance oriented. However to get most out of it you do need to get it reprogrammed to your particular car. $1700 for the tuning and set up is a rip off....see someone else

Joel, the reason I didn't go for an aftermarket turbo is because I want my engine to look factory for insurance reasons. I'm on the wrong side of 25, i'm male, and already drive a HPI which they charge me $2500+ a year on insurance.

I'm not chasing 260 rwkw, i'm aiming at whatever power entertains me. 6 months with standard boost, cat back exhaust, and filter is not as fun as it was when I first got the car.

Another reason is that flipping burgers and asking "would you like fries with that" doesnt help when mods cost $1000+

The reason I could afford the high flow etc. is because I landed a temp job at uni now that i've just completed my degree.

What is the most stealth way to increase boost while having a high and low setting?

My car is getting fixed and should be ready to be picked up this saturday. As a bonus it will be picked up will a full exhaust, high flow cat, and high flowed turbo.

I wanted it fixed by Australia day for the cruise. I'm basicly getting the exhaust leak fixed for free when down with the other upgrades.

    • Result of another R35GTR build. Similar specs as above except this is running our bigger size SS-2 profile option. Made similar power except this car runs on Pump 98 fuel. Build specs are: Nissan R35 GTR 2015 model stock engine and box. ETS street intercooler boost logi intercooler piping with tial bov, boost logi turbo inlet pipe ID 1050 injector DW 300C fuel pump Decatted oem down pipe and y pipe& HKS exaust 3inch intake pipe Upgraded actautors HyperGear SS-2 high flow option Final result is 639whp / 477wkws hubs, Ron 93 / P98 fuel at 20psi.  
    • Duncan:- it affect both sides.  Driver side is worse.
    • That seems like a very special issue!  Does it affect both sides? Either way, I would disconnect the driver's side switch and see if it still happens, noting that might require removal of the whole door card which is a bit of a pain (it does on V37 and HY51)

    • I currently have a 2008 370GT Coupe, with the big brakes (Akebeno if I'm correct), and Its coming time to get new pads. Previously, I had a 2003 350GT Coupe with the stock sized brakes, not Brembos. I had custom wheels on it that were pretty open to the brakes, and when I first put the wheels on it, the rims where completely coated with brake dust. A few years after adding the new rims, I needed to change to pads on that car. I didn't do any research, but I told the mechanic of the problem with the brake dust. I also told him I didn't track the car or even drive around the streets harshley. But the dust was an issue. The mechanics changed the pads to a different compound, and the dust was GONE! The other change I noted was that when coming to a complete stop, instead of having to press harder on the pedal as I approached 0kph, I had to actually lift off a little to not come to a hard jerky stop.( My unfounded explanation is they became stickier as they heated by stopping ) Since I got my 370gt with big brakes, I noticed that that as I came closer to stopping, I had to press harder and harder to reach a full stop. I am not talking about hard, just harder. I brought the car in from another state, so when I had a blue slip done, I asked the mechanic what he thought of the brakes, and he thought they were brilliant. The only negative of these pads on the 350GT, was that they squealed when cold. So driving out of a shopping center carpark, it was a little embarrassing, as the brakes squealed, and I am sure people thought that I needed new brakes, when they were actually fresh. I have no idea of what type of compound they were on the 350gt, but whatever it was, I want to get the exact same on my 370GT. They weren't ridiculously expensive, and were replaced at the local JAX (which is no longer open), so I am certain they would be a pretty common big brand, off the shelf type/brand. My current mechanic suggested I need top get the rear pads changed soonish, but he suggested standard Brembo pads. Which I expect to behave the same as the current ones and not like the ones on the 350GT.  I don't think dust will be an issue on the 370GT. With the behaviour I describe above on the 360GT, does anyone have a suggestion of pad material that will act like the change I had done on the 350GT?
