I was wondering what should be replaced, or at least, inspected when purchasing an import direct from Japan (i.e. first Australian owner).

Example: I've been told that you should replace every hose in the car - like all things they will deteriorate with age and its better to spend a few hundred $$ on hoses than for something to spring a leak, possibly causing a lot more $$ in damage. For this example are there any hose kits? Specifically for the RB26DETT.

Any info would be appreciated. A rough price guide would be great too.

if it were me, then i wouldn't worry about the water hoses..

and the answer will also depend on the age of the car i guess as well, but for a car with say 70,000 or 80,000kms i would change:

1 - engine oil + filter

2 - coolant flush and re-fill with new thermostat

3 - diff oil

4 - trans service including oil + filter

5 - brake fluid? + inspect brake pads

6 - fuel filter

7 - inspect tires

8 - check base engine timing (15 or 20deg BTDC for rb26?)

keep in mind that at 100,000kms timing belt also needs to be done..

the problem is not that things are worn or fluids are out of date or anything, its more that you have no idea of what is in there! some people do actually use the home brand oil you can buy from coles. how do you know that its not in there?

i would then take off some sensors and give them a clean. hell, i do it all the time, but who knows how dirty they are inside. this would include AAC valve, IAC valve, AFMs, oxygen sensor

but some of this will be done at compliance. again, what fluids are they using? who knows...

hope that helped,

Warren.
