Installing a SBC ID III for economy.

Hey all,

Quick question. I drive my R33 GTS-T to work every day, and I am amazed at how bad the fuel consumption is. At the moment I am getting about 350klm out of a 60litre tank!

I have run my car on a dyno before and it was indicated that my air/fuel ratio was rich. I also have purchased a Blitz SBC ID-III, but have not installed it yet.

Would I gain better fuel economy if I installed the boost controller and wound down the boost to 0psi? or am I better off gettin an aftermarket ecu or something. My problem is that the car is auto.

Any suggestions on increasing my fuel economy would be greatly appreciated

No you won't as you can't wind it down to 0 psi. The lowest the boost will go is whatever the stock boost is as regulated by the actuator. The way to improve economy is by using a light throttle, making sure you've got goo d plugs, making sure your air filter is clean and your oil is clean. Rish running is usually the result of dirty air filters.

Don't put your foot down as much, be more 'even' in your driving.

If you want 0 psi you would have to wire your wastegate open so it's never letting it build boost.

Also - don't put your foot down more than it needs to. e.g. you're going up a hill and you put your foot down and 2cm into depressing the pedal your car stops moving any quicker. Take your foot off lightly to 1.9cm (for example) and your car doesn't slow down. This is optimum.

Well I change my oil every 5000klm, I have a pod filter that is not old and doesn't seem dirty, and I have put in iridium plugs in.

Would replacing my pod filter with the standard air box inprove my economy?

What about the the good old O2 sensor. There is a thread on it in ths forum It appears that heaps of people got similar fuel consumption to you (mine is actually even worse I get 350kms on a lucky tank) and after changing it they get around 500km a tank easy driving. Apparently if this sensor is broken the computer runs rich to protect the engine cause it doent know how much air is coming in. I am getting mine changed next tuesday so hopefully it works for me!
