What are peoples thoughts on these. I am considering getting one for use on my car for when leaving it for a month at a time. Still under cover (minimul wind). Reason generally after a month it will have a ton of dust on it with probably cat prints through it.

Im not sure what is best this or a cover which may rub the paint.

Any recommendations for covers. Doesnt need to be waterproof.

Thanks.

i just bought a cheap nylon one for $30 from super cheap auto. it's just to keep the dust off because even in the garage my car still gets dusty because i live on a dirt road. it does the job well, but it does warn not to leave the cover on for longer than a week because it will damage the paint....how can a cover damage the paint??

cheers

greg

Nylon (tarpalun look?) I'd say could be abbrassive, depends on whether its kept in the wind or not. That is why i didn't get one of them.

I have a Autotechnica Evolution 2000 which i got for xmas. Was around $90. Waterproof and fairly soft material. Used it a few times, seems to do its job well. You'll need a "large" for a skyline.

I have just recently purchased a car cover that is made from perforated blue nylon and it tends to let the fine dust particles through which collect on the paint and window. When the wind blows it around, it makes swirly dust marks over the car. To overcome the problem i cover it with a couple of sheets first. So dont get one or those! Make sure it has a soft interior and an exterior that does not let anything through. That will be my next one.

Cheers

Jason

Car covers are great, however, i would never put one on a car thats even mildly dirty/dusty. The cover rubbing against the paint and the dirt in between causes scratches, swirl marks etc... Im not sure what the really good ones are like, but most I have experienced have this common problem.

Unless youve just cleaned the car, you stand a chance of damaging your paint more than your protecting it.

However for grepin's application eg: wash the car and then leave it covered for a month, it shouldnt be a problem.

Keep the replies coming. For my application due to work I have to leave the car for extended periods of time. Although it is under a carport it usually is still filthy when I return. It is good to know that a permiable(?) cover is no good. Its just the quality cover I need to decide on now.

I saw this funky car cover in Kmart that automaticlly retracted into its box when not in use, for about $80.

Car covers dont really provide much protection from rain/water coz it usually soaks through. Also, as above, make sure the car is clean first.

Make sure the car is clean and the cover is also before you put it on the car! It will damage the paint hardcore otherwise, i've seen it happen. Also an idea to put a clean, soft blanket under the cover before you put the cover on, once again make sure the car is CLEAN first....

Ryans Right,,,,Car needs to be clean and DRY,,,,.

Waterproof car covers suck,,,,the paint needs to breath,,,I know that sounds mad but it's true,,,you could end up with mosture under the clear coat,,,YUK,,,I've seen it before.

Better idea is to get someone to sew some flanalet bed sheets together with some elastic at the bottom,,,,.

Oh and Kill the cat.....responsable cat owners should have more control of there pets.

Guest Boxhead

you could go one step further, and sue in the flanelet bed sheets too the car cover (on underneath)...

that way you get the benefit of the elastic and the little fold it in itself bag that my one has.. only used it when i iwashed the car and wasnt using it for a day or so..

so it owuld stay nice and clean

  • 2 weeks later...

bought a nylon one with elastic and clips when the garage was temporarily occupied......did its job untill one day when it got really windy.....took the cover off the next day and found a heap of scuff marks on the passengers side caused by those nasty plastic rings used to thread rope thru.....baahh!!!!!

and yes...i second the motion..."kill those cats" got claw scratch marks on the rear side pannel from a ferral cat....it was considerate enough to even the car out by scratchin the other rear pannel a couple of weeks later

I want to get one for protection from people...I dont want people knowing that its a skyline and then coming along and keying it or trying to break in!!! Why do we live in such a corrupt world?? So which would be the best considering my car will be immaculately clean and it could get windy at times!
