GeeTR
Hey All, I suffer the seemingly common "Oil pressure drops almost to 0, turn off / on, all is well" syndrome that many here have witnessed. I understand it can be from dirty / faulty oil pressure sender or dodgy stock gauge. I will be cleaning the sender this weekend, though have been quoted $260.97 from Nissan !?!?!? So my question is, where do you guys buy parts from? Surely I don’t have to fork out 260 for a sender? Can I use one from a RB30 etc? I have a strange grinding noise from the front of my engine that sounds like a bearing, and considering its MUCH louder in the mornings, has led me to believe it could be the oil pump ( with the small 1st gen RB26 collar) but I'll leave that for another thread. Any help would be massively appreciated!!!! - M Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/80404-rb26dett-oil-sender/ Share on other sites
Mr R32 M-Spec
260??? bugger that, just get an aftermarket guage for that with its own sensor I'm having teh same drama, you might want to get the engine checked out. When mine arrived we pulled it apart and found some seized bearings on the front, 300 from nissan for a new one. damn they know how to charge! mark Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/80404-rb26dett-oil-sender/#findComment-1468742 Share on other sites
GTS4nMore
I actually bought a new one, then found, when I pulled the old one apart that it was the adjustment screw inside had vibrated loose. So if you had the skills you could probably repair it... Mr R32 M-Spec
where is it and how hard is it to get out??? cheers mark Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/80404-rb26dett-oil-sender/#findComment-1477997 Share on other sites
Duncan
The oil pressure sender lives behind the oil filter pointing towards the back of the car. To remove you unplug the wires in, undo a nut, and then it turns on. You do need little fingers as with all rb26 stuff. Cubes
Mine does the same. More so after a bit of driving and everything under the engine bay warms up. It did it with the old rb20det and also with the new motor. Its been good for a few weeks now though. lol Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/80404-rb26dett-oil-sender/#findComment-1480743 Share on other sites
Mr R32 M-Spec
Thanks for the info duncan, I've got a remote filter on mine which might make it easier to get to. Does anyone have picture/s of this thing and its location? cheers mark Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/80404-rb26dett-oil-sender/#findComment-1488450 Share on other sites
Cubes
To the left of the oil filter. Mine has a blue top. GTR's may be slightly different colour. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/80404-rb26dett-oil-sender/#findComment-1489930 Share on other sites
Duncan
it is similar shape on the GTR but faces backward perpendicular to the filter, and it is yellow. sorry no pics it would need a damn small camera to get in there lol Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/80404-rb26dett-oil-sender/#findComment-1489967 Share on other sites
Mr R32 M-Spec
thanks, I now have an idea about where to find it and remove it question, if I do remove it, will all spray everywhere or should I do it at service time once oil is drained out? mark Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/80404-rb26dett-oil-sender/#findComment-1490448 Share on other sites
Cubes
Oil wont spray everywhere unless you have the motor running while you pull it off. haha Don't forget to remove the wires connecting to it first. Doing an oil change at the same time will make life easier as it won't have an oil filter on it. Cubes
Maybe its a wannabe and has some issues. All it needs now is some guards, a bonnet/grill and ... A GTR BADGE! or not. Does anyone have the part number of one of these puppies, ie oil sender unit for an early R32 Rb26dett. It is just that the customer service from my local Nissan dealer varies between incompetent & downright hostile, hence I dont trust them to get it right.
