hey all,

yesterday i boosted my car a bit then after that i can hear a ticking noise when i go over 0 psi.. whe im at about 10 psi it turns into more of a squeal..

its an r32 gtr with boost restrictor removed.. (15psi)

i should be on 15psi but now im only on 13psi..

does this mean i have blown a gasket before the turbos on the exhaust side?

or could it be from a turbo to dump pipe?

how much roughly would it cost to get these gaskets fixed?

i was planing to do it myself

im not saying it will be an interooler pipes etc.

but as with everything, i check if its the cheaper fix first :) haha.

if its the gaskets, you should be able to do them at home, providing you have patience, and the gtr service manual(for tightening torque and order (to tighten bolts)) you shoul dbe fine, i would also recommend a torque wrench for the correct torque :D

well i checked all the pipes i could..

it seems it doesnt make the noise when its cold...

obviously i dont try and reach 15 psi when its cold but i got to about 5 psi and i couldnt hear any suspect noises... after about 5 mins of driving i could start to hear it

**** that!

il be taking it to a mechanic then :uh-huh:

You must have deep pockets. I hear its a 15 hour job (at least according to John from UAS in passing: how accurate he was being I don't know). So what's that? 15h @ $50/h.

Have you checked the 'twin turbo pipe' bolts, where it joins the feeds for the turbos? Apparently its quite common for the highside bolt on the rear turbo feed to come undo.

Lucien.

geepers..

well i was assumig the gasket cuz almost the exact same noise my 180 was making when i blew the gasket on that..

i guess i will put on bigger dump pipes while im there.

would i have to order the gaskets from nissan?

if it is a gasket is there a way to find out what one?

example.. if there is a leak from a plenum gasket you can spray a bit of petrol at the leak and the revs will go up

The best idea I have heard for checking piping leaks is to mix some soap (eg. morning fresh) with some water and add it to a spray pak. Just spray the suspect joints and bubbles should emerge if its leaking.

With the exhaust manifold it tends to be a bit more obvious as there is normally an exhaust 'stain' on the block around the leaking area.

Gaskets. You can buy the turbo --> manifold and compressor wheel side gaskets from turbo shops like GCG. The turbo --> dump gasket is a special Nissan design so you need to get that from Nissan AFAIK. Exhaust manifold --> head: get it from Nissan, its pretty cheap.

Lucien.

thats the sort of trick i was after.. thanks

what about the gasket from the actual block to the exhaust manifold? is that a common gasket to go?

well when one goes they'll all eventually go. I'm getting my exhaust manifold and both turbo gaskets replaced next week.

and has Lucien said it's head to manifold...
