Spent NYE in Canberra, drove home late yesterday and saw a lot of nice cars on the freeway headed towards Canberra, including a rude white R34, (I suspect its the BD4s car).

I was pleasantly surprised by the amounts of imports headed down, plus plenty of nice old Chevies on trailers. Shame im working and couldnt stay for the weekend

Im thinking of going just for saturday. Just had a call from mates already down there (arrived at 7am this morning) and they said midday saturday to midnight is the best time to come coz thats when it all happens (i've never been so accepting any pointers at this stage).

How many people do we have leaving Saturday morning ? The people who are going on friday night are you staying over or what and until when ? Do they check ur wrist straps if u just buy say a saturday ticket, stay over in the camp then exit the park and re-enter on sunday ?

Is anyone going down saturday morning (early) and leaving saturday night (late) and from the Western Sydney Area ? as im not sure about parking and a lift would be the ultimate ! (I've been in a skyline passenger seat for all of 5km and i wanna know how they feel from that side of the car)

Any more info would be helpful.

Anyone that is going down -early- satuday morning and wants a driving partner etc pls pm me.

Yeah i am leaving on early saturday mourning... I am having second thoughts as to where i ca park my car down there without a high risk of it either getting smashed or stolen. If the car is left outside the park is there a good chance of somethong happening to it?

thats also my main concern as to whether i come back sat nite (late) or whether i stay over.

I talked to my mate on the phone tonight whom is already down there and he says free parking should be fine as most of the cars are hotted up or imports/v8s etc.

croat,

the car parks directly out the front of EPIC fill very quickly (and get very dusty as george said :uh-huh: ). If they're full they will usually direct you up the road a bit further to northern carparks...which are in massive grassed paddocks and are a lot more organised than the closer ones.

There are heaps of parking nazis directing cars into rows so don't worry about it getting smashed into, or people doing donuts or whatever, it's pretty organised. As for theft...cars HAVE been stolen before...but i don't think it's a huge risk. Especially during the day.

There are usually heaps of nice cars in the carparks, plenty of imports too! so don't worry about the bogans :D

    • One piece driveshaft I would recommend a dual CV setup otherwise stick to OEM. I have heard most one piece driveshafts cause excess vibration otherwise. The transmission grind I'm quite familiar with. You can try shockproof gear oil, otherwise you need a new transmission. The shifter is extremely simple on these cars. If you want pull apart the assembly and replace the plastic bushing but I doubt that fixes anything. The tail light issue is very common, unfortunately new tail lights are long discontinued. The trunk antenna going up always is because your radio doesn't have a true power antenna control, just remote amp power signal. There is a blank switch plate that you can pop out and install a switch for this or alternatively source a head unit that has proper antenna control. Throttle body sticking you have to disambiguate by disconnecting the cable and seeing if the linkages are the problem or something else. There is a procedure to adjust them, refreshing them is also somewhat involved if that's the issue. I have dealt with many of these issues. Old cars really are fractals of problems. The more you fix the more you discover there is to fix.
    • Welp, you've got a long list of experiences right there. I'd say you're on the right path.
    • That's correct, suits my requirements a bit better. Sure there are also numpties there, however it's generally a different vibe and more my kind of vibe.
    • Oh, right. In that case there is no rush. It's the car entries that are quite limited and can sell out quickly.
    • All I want to do is be a spectator and check out the cars in the show and shine
