Wife's new car... XR6 Turbo!!!

Recommended Posts

What a little darling! (yes 5'6" is little)

In deciding what car to lease through her work she said "It's only $40 a week more for the XR6Turbo over the taxi-pak Falcon... why wouldn't you?"

Damn I'm glad I married that girl!

Bring on that new-car smell.... oh, and 240kw of course.

I have a grin on my face that you couldn't remove with a brick ;)

4 litre 6 cylinder with a gt40 strapped on the side is nuts. mark 1 or 2? the 6 speed is very nice and runs awesome. stacks ot torque. its peak power its from 2000 to 4500rpm and makes more torque than the beefed up v8s

yeah higher compression with the 6 vs 8 cyl and turbo charged :)

surely the turbos can be changed!, just head out and get a GT3540 (and some internals) wacked in there ;)

You wont need internals or a bigger turbo - my XR6 turbo ute runs 11.9 @ 120 & none of that stuff has been touched!!! ( and the ute is heavier than the sedan too)

yeah niizpro did a made stage 3 or stage 4 kit that was like 800 odd kw at the flywheel. to crack some serious power i think all you need is to change the compressor housing as its a restricitive one to kinda hold back the turbo a little. you dont need internals or turbo change at all for good top power. changing it to a gt3540 would be silly. one awesome package i must say. go the aussies, nothing beats displacement. they did the rb30 turbo and the japs wanted it, and now theyve done the 4 litre turbo ;)

Now once the car has 3,000+km on it go to your local XR6 Turbo tuning house and ask for one custom tuned edit box.

$1,600 later you will have a handheld box that can upload 250rwkw in 2 mins on a completly stock car.

I hope you get a good one, make sure you inspect it with a microscope and also test drive it before you accept delivery as the quality varies.

Was reading over the XR6 Turbo forum's and i think it's Rajab Racing Development's or HPF or it may have been a combined effort.

Anyhow they have just takin the title of fastest XR6 Turbo in the land with a 10.5 @ 131.5mph on the car's first ever meeting at the strip on street radials.

Didnt take them long.

Get the muffler removed ,the one under the rear seat, you'lll feel the difference 20 kw i reckon .......$40 at an exhaust shop.Apparently ford put it in to curb it's power so it didn't have more power than the BOSS 5.4l. Also sounds beefier with muffler thing removed

haha wait till you hear about what they did to the territory. a 2.2 ton car running 11.7

This was in 100% STREET DRIVEN TRIM road Tyre's pulp full exhaust including CAT the lot and as expected its 60 foot times were very good with a best of 1.72 sec

Vehicle has the following attributes:

- standard Stage 2 Cobra Kit coupled with an auto upgrade in the same fashion as the BA Falcons

- Garrett GT series turbocharger similar to the standard BA turbo with a slightly different turbine end.

- low compression pistons used are high silicon content cast alloy

- The radiator is a high capacity alloy unit that is twice as thick in core size to the standard Territory unit

- Conrods are the same as Cobra Stage 3 engine and are custom billet machined to Nizpro specs.

- fully blue printed and balanced engine

- transmission cooler

- twin stainless steel exhaust system with 100mm stainless steel turbo dump pipe and high flow 100mm catalytic converter

    • My 6 Point FIA harness have arrived (kinda). There was a mix up from the supplier and I ended up with 3" set rather than the 2" set. I contacted them and their customer service was top notch. It is being resolved and 2" ones will be on their way to be soon but in the mean time I was able to at least mock them up in the car to see the vibes. Need to organise some fixed back seats so i can actually use them as a 6 point. I am leaning towards the Velo Podium II XLs as I like the look of the bolstering compared to the GP90 XL or GPT2. The side and thigh bolstering on the GP90/GPT feels less that my existing Bride Digo R recliner. Velo Podium II XL Velo GP90 XL Velo GPT2
    • Yea I know the wiring would be fine just want to use I got. This was my first built engine and it blowing got me beat down just want to have it running right again but hopefully I can find a non vct head so I don’t have to do any of this lol.
    • Recently did the Perth Festival of Speed - and basically what we thought might be an average event turned out to be absolutely awesome they bought Mad Mike and Xtreme over and was good to see Perth get, support and produce something so good - 24,000 people in two days      It was nice to have it close to home for once yet have my whole crew there to run the car properly     Xtreme got the tin top laps record with 51.57    I hadnt done a hot lap on the home track for 20 months and finally everything clicked and dropped 4 secs off PB and did a 53.29 which is 3rd fastest tin top ever around that track. only 1.3 tenths behind 2nd so should eat that up soon... can I get Xtremes time - its not out of the question   Alll the blaa blaa's in the world but if I can replicate even close to that situation on other tracks will be able to make an impact     We got asked to do the hill climb to put on a show which in reality is just using some chicanes and the short track at barbs but good fun... launch control was put in and won the Pro class in that also.     Car needs some attention after being on it around Australia for last few months moreso the carbon underbody work and just a run through and clean up everything else seems to have held up good enough. Would like ,to take some weight out but that requires alot of effort 😁   Also waiting on new rules for WTAC and have some decisions to be made there and prob some minor modifications to suit pending class changes. Will see...   Divided on whether to go hard for one more year or chill out re: events this coming year prob more on the go hard and see if I can get improvements in times. If I didnt have so travel so far it would be less of an issue but I do so hmmm...   Also because build thread - gone to flappy paddles and a gearing change with a drop gear. It was becoming apparent that there were situations where I really needed to be hanging onto the wheel with both hands yet had to change gears and was getting a little sketchy and / or I just didnt change gears and delt with it and also 5th gear at 10,000 rpm is 290 kmph so I havent been using 6th as did 282 at WTAC and 274 in Perth drop gear will change to 6th being 300 at 10,000 rpm should also get a touch more acceleration speed
    • No, not really. Except that there are newer, better cam options that don't date back to the 90s. I was under the impression that you couldn't use VCT with them, which is why I said to get rid of them. If you can't/won't use VCT because of what you listed above, that's another matter. Although I would have said the wiring aspect of it was something that you should just suck up and do, as it isn't hard. Getting an actuator for the cam gear will possibly be expensive. I still say VCT is for the win. There's a reason HKS makes money selling it for 26s.
    • Is there something wrong with using tomei?  I’ve heard the tomei usa are fake parts. Reason why I don’t want to make vct work is one gotta make a plug for the solenoid get the vct cam gear. I rather just use the stuff I already have. I made 450 on 17psi full boost at 4K. I’m satisfied with that it’s a street car and sometimes hit the track for drift. If I’m really wanting to decrease the lag I’ll go to a smaller rear housing as I have an extra or even cam gears.
