Hi Roy, for controlling boost the valve is actually a phneumatically actuated - electrically controlled rotating spoon valve 3" in diameter. Was primarily used as a shutoff valve on the Hornet for engine bleed air.

It has provision for position sensing and can be locked into any open position electrically. It has a light spring load bias in the closed position and uses differential air pressure on both sides of a diaphram to control the movement of the valve. It's very sensitive to pressure changes. I've got pictures of it, just got to find a spare moment to post them up in my gallery.

Oh yeh I thought about the comment I made about Fuel. The C16 we will use for comparison sake, just to show what it really does for your engine. We're just going to run it on optimax pump fuel. This way other people with RB20's will at least be able to correlate modifications and tuning on standard fuel.

Sounds like the worlds most sexual wastegate to me :D;)

Hi guys,

I'm at the moment attempting to instal a set of RB26DETT camshafts into my RB20DET.

Everything is fine with the cams themselves fitting into the head, cam brackets fit nice and torque up well with no binding. The problem starts with the lifters.

Now I know I can run with the hydraulic lifters. We tried this on our R32GTS4, the engine ran quite well above 2200RPM. It had idle issues but we kind of knew that would happen. We removed them and put the standard cams back in so we could drive the car to the last Skylines show in town.

I thought with the hydraulic lifters in our race car it was a bit of a no no, mainly for the high RPM operation. So i got hold of a set of solid lifters (RB26DETT). For some reason, even if i installed them into the head above the valve springs, it looks like they will not make up the distance to the base circle of the cam lobes.

Will this be fixed with the shims between the valve and lifter??

Seems like alot of room to make up their, maybe up to 1inch :(

Maybe someone can shed some light on this subject for me.

    • Well, your RB20 ECU loom won't have wires for the boost solenoid, that boost sensor, and possibly one or two other things. There could be differences in seemingly random things like the charcoal canister purge solenoid, because the 25DET has to handle boost in the vacuum system and the 20DE does not. I don't know - I haven't looked. It is very likely that all the most important things are same-same, being the main sensors like AFM, CAS, etc, and the injectors and ignition. Not that you'll need the AFM for the Haltech anyway. I would suggest that you would seriously want to sit down with the pinouts for both ECUs and just go through them and highlight green what is the same, orange what is different/missing, and make a plan from there. It's not going to be difficult. It will either be the same or need to be fixed.
    • yeaaa that's why I haven't done any wiring to the stock ecu harness because I have the haltech, but then that leads me to the other question of "is the pnp harness really plug and play?" or would I have to still switch some pins/wires over because the pnp is for the rb25det neo harness, and not for the rb20de neo harness. was really hoping to find something to spoon feed me since so many people have done rb20neo + t conversions, but man this is rough.

    • They definately are coming back around, so many GTRs coming through again with them.
    • Besides which. If you have a Haltech waiting - don't waste your time and effort and money trying to get the boost sensor. Just f**k the stock ECU off and put the Haltech in. Then you won't need the boost sensor.
