i wouldn't have any idea whether they are the same or not, does anyone else reading the thread know if they are the same??

but if they are that would be much appreciated MrMayhem, and yeah it would only be a couple of days at the most and ya wouldn't need to hunt it up.

:-)

I would be really interested in what regulation actually dictates how loud a BOV can be. The only regs on noise coming out of a vehicle that I know of reffers to the exhaust. Have a mate who is a copper and he hasn't heard of it either. Truck air brakes can be notriously loud...

R33 Cam, is it possible to ask the guys when you go back next what the correct ruling on this, what are the maximum dbs allowed, and how/where they must be measured from (rpm, distance, angle etc). Or perhaps the EPA would be a better one to contact, because if it is noise related it would be their ruling?

MrMahem:

Thanks for trying anyway man, much appreciated.

Nexus_SiX:

standard exhaust, hehe, i keep meaning to get in touch with ya but always forget, but maybe thats a good excuse/point now. are you north or south of the river??

Steve:

the guys at the pits said they aren't illegal as long as they aren't to loud, and apparently mine is too loud, well thats what he said anyway, i think it would just be easier to put standard one back on for going back over, as i dont wanna get on the wrong side of them, cause then they would prob pick alot more than they have.

Pva:

im not sure about the regulations on sound level etc etc, but his words at the pits were, i quote " your BOV sounds like a Mack truck parking" hehehe.

2rismo:

thanks and ill keep it in mind, if nothing comes up over here :D

MrSnrub:

Same Ben much appreciated for the offer, ill be in touch if nothing comes up, are u north or south of the river???

This sort of thing really pisses me off. How bloody vague is that - probably no acutal rule on volume, IMO, this guy has his hand seriously attached to his d!ck. If it sounds like a mack truck is he saying mack trucks should all be defected? When was the last time he had his ears calibrated. I would be taking a copy of the notice, and going to see his supervisor (then taking my car somewhere esle to get the sticker off:) ) Where are you getting the inspection done currently, sounds like somewhere to steer clear of.

Happy now, I've had my vent:D

PVA Glue: the 96db, is that for the exhaust, or anywhere from the vehicle - I am pretty sure the exhaust has to be measure at a specific rpm, angle and distance from the muffler - does this mean that R33 Cam's BOV is loud enough to cause permanent ear damage to pedestrians? hehehe

i just think there is one rule for some things/ppl and another rule for other ppl, etc etc. but agree totally with ya steve, so they sayin all air brakes and exhaust brakes on trucks should be banned, i dont think so!! and i think they are well in excess of 96db

im pretty sure it is 90db with exhausts, was last time i checked (bout a year ago) that is a stationary test, done at approx 1metre from exhaust outlet, at a certain RPM, depending on engine capacity.

is it adjustable?

cant u just tighten it right up so it doesnt open much, or muffle the noise with something.

then it passes with that BOV, get a permit for it, and adjust it back to where it was.

Then no more yellows.

BTW how do they test, do they drive it hard enough to build boost, or do they do it in neutral? I know i certainly wouldnt want some bodgy inspector driving my car enough to open the BOV.

I'd just say sorry mate, your not driving my car. It's not insured for you to drive it. *in your face!*

We all know their eyes light up when they see a performance car come through the pits :|

Not to sure on the exact details but the standards for road noise go like this.....

They take a bit of road and measure the car accelerate to 80 and stay there for a certain length of road. It has to be under a certain number of dB at all times.

Thems the Aussie standards all cars have to adhere to.

ah i have a standard BOV but im outta the country at the moment...

if im not mistaken the law concerning exhausts is 98db at a 1 metre distance when ure car is revved up to 1500rpms?

Cam - just out of curiosity, what BOV are u using that is deemed too loud?

And the reply would be,

'Sorry mate, you're not driving that car home, hand in your plates, and call a tow truck.'

The test drive is to check the car is safe to drive on the road, eg, no flat spots - I got done for a flat spot once.
