On paper, a Porsche Carrera is 1500KG and 230KW-260KW at the flywheel, depending on the model.

Now, I'm wondering how an R33 GTS25-t with 200-220 RWKW would compete, given the cars are approximately the same weight. The R33 has suspension, etc also. What other variables will come into play? How badly will I be beaten?

The Carrera is supposed to run 0-100 in around five seconds. Where can I find a quarter mile time?

I don't believe those specs!

Since when does an R32 GTR take 14.0 secs down the quarter, and more to the point, since when is an R33 GTR (13.9) quicker than a 32?

An RZ SUPRA stops the clocks @ 13.6. A standard Supra Versus a standard GTR does not end in the Supra winning by 1/2 a second.

yeah i dont believe half of those "specs" either, i doubt there even from a reliable source. ( e.g one time at caulder i seen a ferrari get 17 seconds thats heaps slow to any factory specs, quarter mile times depend on the drivers as well, not just the power and weight the car has, coz after all the car doesnt throw itself down the quarter mile does it... ).

the only way you can test to see which car is quicker is to actually go and line up on the quarter..... just coz it says one is quicker than the other on paper doesnt mean much until you've actually gone out and tested to see if its true or not.

new ones are 0-100 in 5.2 I do believe (and that's not the S model) he'll be able to launch @ much higher revs, doesn't have to wait for boost..

mate's dad has a brand new 997 carrera (within the last 2 months).. and damn it's quick..

I still think the porsche would win - having 11" wide rear tires + a thousand tricky gadgets in it that stop things like wheel spin, downforce..

grib levels on a porsche are pretty decent..

here you go - this is for a carrera s -

year - name - 0-100 - 1/4mile

2005 Porsche 911 Carrera S 997 (6 spd Man) 4.1 12.60

1999 Porsche 911 Carrera 4.9 13.40

great site here..

From my humble experience the carrera will monster the skyline at the very last moment, they have very high mph for some unknow reasons,

Also 2 average drive in the 2 cars mentioned, the skyline will win around a track.

2, experience driver in the same 2 cars, the skyline, be lucky to see the porsche tail lights.

LOL...who cares, ill take the Porsce thanks:)

...but a modded GTST or GTR dont have too many problems against std Carreras at the track...but it depends so much on rubber and whether the Porsches have std exhaust / susp etc.

GT3s and GT2, 996 Twin Turbos etc are another kettle of fish...:D

A mates uncle has a 1996 Carrera 4 NA with exhaust, good rubber, modded comp and intake mods.

I have given him a few highway runs and can walk away from him with about 250kw@wheels easily. The porsches have great top end tho but I am usually 2 far ahead for him to catch me.

I am trying to get him to come to the next sandown or philip island wang day.

Also 2 average drive in the 2 cars mentioned, the skyline will win around a track.

I disagree.

The Porsche is much more tractable than the skyline and the chassis, brakes and suspension are second to none.

I have a mate with a 996(911) Porsche. I had at the time a Supra with 280kw@wheels(running 285 tread) which is much quicker and handles better than a GTSt. I found his car so much easier to drive fast because the traction and handling were amazing.

It's just my though on the car, and my mate didn't have one, but I did, a 2004 carrera 4, also I currently have couple of skylines. I drive them all and knows their handling very well.

Try and put down 300+hp on a carrera on a negative camber apex is like ice skating with roller skates, you look good at first, but, it wont belong before you split your head open.

I've been around a few cars, that I think I can cast a fair judgement, but I would rate my driving ability as average. Where as you might be one of the better driver I'm talking about, and that your ability is actually better than you think.

  • 2 months later...

straight line wise, i had a really good run with a previous model carrera (current model at the time) 2 years back when i still have my R33 (175rwkw)

20 - 16xkm/h is dead even. but rolling start again at 130 he beat me within seconds

    • Ha ha, all good! I've almost caved in and realised I'm buying one.  I know myself well enough by now that I will start chasing ADHD butterflies half way through building it and not finish it so I'm better off spending the extra money buying one instead of making one just so I can get into straight away.  I would very much enjoy making one as fabrication is probably a strength and definitely a passion but I don't want that to be at the detriment to the car I'm ultimately building it for! There's some pretty good ones around for ~$1100 at the moment so I think I'll just go that way.  At the end I sell it or as mentioned, get another project to make further use of it! Thanks gents.
    • That link was very helpful thank you.
    • That is the option code, not the VIN. Regardless all of that production is considered series 2: https://gtr-registry.com/en-ecr33-vin-table.php
    • Apologies if I sounded like a arse My point was that you will not be able to buy a rotisserie that suits your car, you get the rotisserie frame, and then fabricate parts to mount the rotisserie frame to the body The rotisserie side is easy, but the fabrication of the actual mounts is the tricky part, where to mount so you don't bend/twist the body, plus the geometry involved to get it to turn  If your capable at fabrication, and can work out where the C/L is in relation to the weight is so it actually can turn, you should be sweet I would love to see the progress on this just for the thought processes and fabrication
