New car with HKS gear need opinion on how many kilowatts it would have!!

Recommended Posts

Just purchased and import R32 5 speed with HKS FCON engine management system, with HKS pod filter, T28 ball bearing turbo, running 18psi it has a full 3.5 inch jasma exhaust system, has also got a HKS electronic Valve controller don’t quite have enough $$$ left over after insurance to have it dyno reading yet, so I was wondering if anyone had any clue on how much kilowatts it would be producing on a nice winter night :)

the fcon management is apparently one of the best on the market but no one knows how to tune it so its pretty pointless. much like a mines ecu in australia, sure they are great but u cant make any changes. i think there is one place in aus who can do f-con in qld or nsw and they'd charge a bucket load as the are the only place who can. its probably making 180odd rwkw i'd say?

After you said it was $5000 I had a look on the net and the comp was $2000 to $2500 new, so it would be about $1500 to $2000 now. I had an idea of the price I just wouldn't know how much kilowatts it would produce with the after market shit on it.

I will have to take it to the dyno, when I have a bit more money, expensive things.

I think the tuning needs a bit of a touch up I talked to the guy that sold it to me and he said the comp had been in there for a few months and was installed and tuned in Japan, though the warranty that I got doesn’t cover tuning it he recons as it’s not a mechanical problem (bull shit).

I think it has back fired like 3 times since I have owned it (I think it is cause of the leads, they will be changed in a couple days so I’ll find out then) and in the morning he sits on 400revs when you first start him instead of starting him and being at 1000 in the day time, i think thats kind of normal though just being cold and not being started after 10 hours. Anyway getting to the point the guy I bought it from he said it is all normal. What do you think? I think he is trying to get out of his warranty????? But I’m a bit paranoid about this car as I’ll be paying it off for 5 years :P

I didn't think it would be a problem getting it tuned here?? But if that is what you guys think who are the couple of companies or mechanics in QLD that can tune it??

With the amount of tuners in this country who can actually do something with it, its worth next to nothing...

If there are no tuners in Australia that can work on it I can always plug the standard one back on it’s still sitting in the car, I only found the HKS comp in the car when I was getting my alarm put in a couple of days ago I thought it was running a standard management system until then.

do you still have air flow meters?

and the 400rpm thing is not a problem. mine always does it for about 5 seconds then kicks up to around 1000 and sits there smoothly.

Croydon Racing Development tunes mine... does a pretty good job of it usually to. BD4's can also do them in sydney. i dont know of any other places but i'm sure there is at least one place in each capital city in Aus. Its a damn good computer to, other then the difficulty of getting it tuned i would not swap it for anything else.

I go to Sydney like once a year so if there is no one in QLD then that can be an option thanks.

I go to the Central coast mostly how far are either of the places from there??

    • Are these the Dmax ones you are in reference too? https://justjap.com/collections/driveshafts-bearings/products/d-max-reinforced-replacement-rear-driveshaft-set-fits-nissan-s13-s14-s15-r32-r33-r34-c35#description Not a bad idea to get the uni flange ones. I have sent just jap an email too. Will see what they say lmao. Only thing is the Dmax ones are on a big back order. Low key anything will be better then my OEM ones I got as they are sounding like popcorn when I go under load lmao 😂☠️🪦.
    • They should do. I have S14 (or something S chassis, anyway) driveshafts in my R32 (because my diff flanges have 3x2). They're the right length. When you go looking for R32/3/4 driveshafts (for turbos), they're all the same thing, so are the same length. So there really shouldn't be any reason why those cheapies from JJ won't also fit an R34. R32/3 NA should also be the same thing. The (3x the price) D-Max ones are uni-fit. They have 5x1 and 3x2 bolt holes and say they cover all the cars. So that would also suggest that they are all the same except for the flanges. And in that case, the flange goes both ways. I'd be buying the D-Max ones if I ever have to replace a shaft. Because that will open up diff options without needing to juggle shafts also. Juggling shafts is gay.
    • Yeah with the adaptors they do look like the photo above - just the fitment within the plenum itself and then further with the rail to the intake is questionable - we shall see tomorrow hopefully once I get some replies from Aeroflow, maybe those bosses are the missing piece....
    • Should be fine, if you have it sitting too far in, you end up just spraying the walls and have shit idle. You "can" run them like that, however I don't think it's a great idea (also depends on your plenum, might be good to just get the injector bosses first, mock it up and see if you need to get the bottom extension) Ideally your injectors, with the extension should look like this  (Not my photos, just Google)
    • Thanks for the replies guys, it's really appreciated.  It seems the kit was supposed to come with those injector bosses but hasn't. Unsure if they'll help as even with the adaptors to make them a 3/4 height injector they still sit too far out so mount the fuel rail?
