Turbo Rattle

I had the same problem. Well similar anyway, it was a rattle coming from the passenger side dash.

It got worse since I boosted it to 10psi a few weeks ago

It happened when I was on hard acceleration usually, otherwise the turbo was fine, created normal boost etc

I drove around like that for a while but after talking to a friend about it he said I had a leak in the turbo gasket which was spot on. He also said to get it repaired ASAP as the turbo is working harder to make the same boost which makes sense to me.

I took it to my mechanic last weekend and he removed the turbo, sure enough my gasket was burt. He snapped the gasket bolts removing it, it was that burnt.

Its fine now after I got it repaired ~$400. Usually around 300 or so but I had to buy new bolts too - ouchies

Hey EVL032, hope you get your problem diagnosed / fixed quickly

I'm not having a go at you, but the reason why people are posting stuff like 'check grammar and spelling etc' is that by using slang / shortening, it makes it very difficult to read and follow what you're saying. That comment isn't directed soley at you; there are many people on the forum who for one reason or another (might think it's 'cool'?) use SMS type slang. I think that other forum users may be more likely to offer advice should the text be written clearly and concisely - and that helps the person posting with the problem by getting more (and better technical) responses.

Like I said, hope you get it sorted out, but maybe consider what i've just written above.

thankyou very much "gengis" u saved me so much hassle ur dignosis was spot on i changed the turbo/manifold gasket today and problem gone thanks again

actually after a few hours the noise came back i counted my chickens to early!!!

now with a home made stethoscope it appers the sound is coming from the rear of the turbo does that help anyone???

iam going to drop the xhaust off tonight and see wat i can see

fixed once and for all

the rattle was the wastegate flap in the back of the turbo was loose say i tightned it right up and now i am spooling up at 2grand rather than 4 grand two great fixes in one

How did you tighten the wastegate flap? i didn't think they could be tightened???
