Greetings All.

It also depeds on what type of vehicle you are trying tp build...Streeter...Dayly Driver/Weekend Warrior...Track demon, but still docile enough for street driving...

Also what do you expect from your turbo?? Put your fut down at ANY RPM and be pushed back into the seat...or an on/off style power delivery...?

Cheers,

108rwkw with 3inch cat back and a FMIC?

that sounds pretty 5hit house man

my ageing 88 model redtop rb20 made 116rwkw with 3inch exhaust and pod. the rest was stock

i was at the understanding that most silvertops will making that much (110-118rwkw) in bog stock trim.

have u had your compression checkd on your engine?

Matt

Yer the car was a bit sick it was the tune when i got 108rwkw after i had it tuned i put a pod and BOV on i guess it all helps a little we got 138rwkw with standard standard everything else which i thought was good. Then the standard turbo sh8t it self hense why i have done all this work to the car. Well i drive the car every day so i guess i wouldn't wont to much for power i guess but you know what they say a person that has power always wants more hehehe. I don't mind the turbo coming on late although i wouldn't mind it coming on about 3500 instead of the 4200, the guy that gave me the turbo says that it has the smallest exhuast housing on it which if i am not mistaken helps boost earily not sure guys

your next step maybe should be porting of the head, and some cams ~$2k or so.

Signs point to that turbo not being a full '650hp' turbo - but hey.. why bother with internals when you can squeeze a bit more out, and keep going until you have reason to bother with internals.

You might get another 10-30rwkw (~235rwkw), which might be the real level of that turbo. Thats a good amount of power from a RB20det.

thanks guys this is helping a far bit and giving me a lot of options. The guy that tuned my car at rank rotory said the same thing about the fuel pumps they told me that i should be able to get maybe another 10 - 20% out of it as i will be able to turn the fuel presure up a little. I really am trying to get to that 250rwkw mark not sure if i will get there what will i need to get into the 12's for the 1/4 mile i am going next month to see what can get with what i have now.

Greetings All.

Some things you might want to consider before cracking open the block for a rebuild...

  • Port & Polished Head
  • Adjustable Cam Gears
  • Extrude Honed Exhaust Manafold
  • Larger TB with a Z32 Airflow Meter (Better for tuning)

But before you do any of these a GTR fuel pump might be the go...

My 2c,

  • Port & Polished Head

That would involve removing the head, so new head gasket, plus labour etc. Much nicer solution would be to just throw some cams in. The cost of remove and install head, head gasket, porting and polishing etc would be a lot more...and drama being that the std cams could be the limiter, more then the ports when std????

  • Extrude Honed Exhaust Manafold

If he is still running the std manifold with a 45mm external wastegate...then id say dont bother extrude honing it, again the cost in labour to remove and install plus extrude honing would be better spent on getting a good quality / deisng manifold. But im assuming since he is already running the external gate he has the manifold side of things sorted.

  • Larger TB with a Z32 Airflow Meter (Better for tuning)

He is running a Wolf 3D so would be amazed if he was still running an AFM...though the larger TB could be an interesting thing to try because i have often wondered what if any is to be gained.

And sorry not meaning to be picky, but i wouldnt even go for a GTR fuel pump, for the same money or even less you can get a Bosch 040 which is new and flows more and is easy to fit....just another opinion:)

i was thinking of buying a walbro i can get one of here from happypig i think he goes by for $165 would this be ok. I am not running a AFM i just have a 3" piping from the pod. What would i be looking at in gaining with a set of cams in terms of rwkw and cost involed in this sort of operation

hey guys it seems that my car isn't running on the 16psi i thought it was it turns out that it is on;t running on about 12 as i founf out last night well thats all my boost gauge would go up to would this be correct in making this sort of power with this boost. I thought they tuned it to 16 but it turns out they didn't they said they would turn it up to 16 with a bigger fuel pump i guess then i will get my extra 30 - 40 rwkw

i say run it on another dyno 729NM doesnt sound right with that kw figure

other than that get some new cam gears (mayb a step bigger cams), extrude hone what ever you can afford to (even you turbo if you want) and most definetly upgrade your fuel pump man. Probally a good idea to get the Z32 afm too.

The most important step however is giving your car a good tune!!

i have had a few people say that to me about the 729nm i am going to get the fuel pump and tune again then run it on 2 different dyno's see what the difference is, i am not running a AFM i am running wolf 3D so i have taken it of and put all new 3" piping in

    • Sorry for resurrecting an oldish thread Not much has happened in the past year since the last update. The car did another 1000 miles or so and failed the MOT for the first time in October (failed on tyres which had been advised for a couple of years) In October the car got put up for sale and was removed in November due to no interest, being so close to christmas it was to be expected. The roads were dry in February so I decided to tax it early and get the new tyres fitted.   Fast forward to April, I got someone in to give the car a good clean after sitting for the winter.                                 The car got re-advertised and today (Saturday 3rd May) the car sold. The new owner is planning a GTR conversion at some point and a respray in the same pearl white. It's bitter sweet, it's a shame to have the car sit there for half the year and then only do 1000 miles. The kids are growing too quick and space in the back is getting limited. It's been a great 6.5 years of ownership
    • And if you want more power, more reliably, and cheaper, go get the Aussie RB... The 4L Barra and put that in instead.
    • No cats will keep discolouring the rear bar. Sends white paint a weird yellow stain. Cut and polish normally gets it out, but you'll be doing that every fortnight I found.
    • Both heads will be equally reliable or unreliable depending on what you do to them.  Stock the RB26 head will flow more. You have access to the stock intake ITB manifold on the RB26 cheaply which flows really well(1000hp+).   Arguably more aftermarket support for RB26, though in Aus we love our RB30 SOHC heads too.    The only downsides to the RB26 head is if you have a VL commodore and want to keep the SOHC look.  Where you may have an issue is drilling out the rb30 block for the bigger head studs but if you are building a big power motor you'd probably put bigger studs on the SOHC head too.  This is just about finding a good machine shop, sometimes easier said than done.  RB30 head worked can make big power just like a Rb26 head, so really it actually more comes down to what your preference is for your car.  People now even making billet versions of both.
    • 2630s work perfectly well. There is something to be said for just using the 30 head, as it saves all the pain of the conversion, still makes tons of power, still sounds cool, etc etc. 2630 will obviously make more power again, but the differences are not stupidly big. It really depends on whether you're racing for sheep stations or not. If it's dead serious, then it's a 26 head. If it's just for fun, it could go either way. But the 26 head and the effort to get it set up, etc etc, is part of the fun.
