Why is my car holding back?

thats what i would be guessing, aren't sr20's low revving engines? I haven't driven many, but thats what i'm thinking

i'd say if you wanted it be pulling still at those revs then you should've bought a skyline, feel free to correct me if i'm wrong though

not sure how high skylines revs ..but my car (s13) happily reves over 7500rpm hitting just over 10psi in my stock turbo

my strongest gears are 2nd and 3rd ...but as ppl said it is a 2L ..but it should still pull

4th gear is designed for higher speeds, not maximum torque..so if ur on a uphill still fighting for torque, try dumping it back to 3rd..and redline it :P

boost leak is not just in the turbo housings, you may find them on some of the pipine, go around and tighten all induction piping, look for oil leaks on pipes due to blowback.

Just go over every thing logicaly. Boost leak = piping, sprakplug gaps, coils really blocked air filter say you have a big fat rat in there when you boost no air for the motor = no power.

Slipping clutch.

last thing i can think of is it simply was to big of a hill and the poor car ran out of puff.

Oh one more thing, stock bov and internal gate check to see if they are stuck open.

See if you can get to full boost on flat road, after checking everything else.

is that an sr20 or a ca18?

The car would not run out of puff up a hill in 3rd after pulling itself up to 5000rpm.

If it can pull up to 5000rpm then it should be able to keep going. We're talking 3rd gear here guys in a turbo. If anything, power should increase as the revs raise and yes, they may start to drop off after 5000rpm but they won't drop so much that the car can no longer accelerate up a hill. If it can pull from 3000 to 5000 up the hill, then it's not going to stop suddenly at 5000.

I'd be guessing some kind of limiter for sure. Boost leak, overboost causing boost/fuelcut perhaps. But not the hill. If it was the hill, he'd know it.

I had a mate of mine who use to have an s15 to have a look at it.

He was saying it probably wouldnt be a boost leak because you'd hear it at 5000rpm if there was.

its running stock boost so i doubt it would overboost or "spike" from anything.

I think it might need a better airflow system (as it has stock filters and exhaust)

    • Yes sir, that was me. Fake ARP's are also a thing over here in Canada and we only order from reputable dealers. It's sad that even simple things like bolts and hoses are now also being copied... anything to make a dollar.  Story time. Like all cheap crap from China, it's even an issue with firearms. Roughly 15 years ago, I purchased a new cheap Norinco 12g shotgun. First time out in the bush with it, while firing, bolt assembly didn't lock and it fired out of battery. The receiver also being cheap steel, basically exploded in my face. I was lucky to be wearing eye protection. Long story short, don't buy Chinese junk. Also Norinco being state run and their only military arms producer, if ever they do try and take over a country, don't worry about it lol. 
    • Installed  Nismo coppermix twin competition spec last year in my bnr32 with pull trans with Oem slave cylinder. The point at where the clutch disengages/enages is right at the top of the clutch pedal, meaning I barely have to push the pedal down for the clutch to be disengaged.  You guys that have the same combo are you experiencing this high pedal bite point??   Secondly I’d like to have the disengagement point lower meaning I have to push the pedal more(further not effort)for it to be disengaged.  I’m thinking to use a Nismo big operating cylinder(bigger bore at 13/16 vs Oem 3/4) which will require more pedal stroke to get the equivalent movement at the clutch fork. But I see Nismo web site says not to mix these 2 as the Nismo big operating cylinder doesn’t have enough stroke to disengage??? Any folks run both the coppermix twin pull with Nismo cylinder??    Thanks in advance for the replies but prefer only guys with pull clutches to respond. thanks

    • That’s a great deal and I would jump on it if you were closer. Melbourne is a bit of a hike for me though unfortunately
