Hey guys :D

Just wanted to know if anybody has ever used on of these turbos on an RB25?? I have a 3037s at moment and I think that will limit me to around 300rwkw and id really like to see 350+rwkw.

I was thinking the 3240 would make this sort of power without having too much more lag than the 3037

All the necessary mod to support it like forgies, rods, cams, front facing plenum....... etc

Thoughts anyone???

:)

From the HKS USA site the GT3240 (GT5982R in new speak) is a tad smaller in the turbine dimensions ie 58.7 x 54mm vs 60 x 55mm for your GT3037S . The compressor the former uses is an 82mm 54 trim GT40 series wheel . How they come up with the 580 PS power rating beats me . Also note that its sold with a .87 ARR T28 flanged exhaust housing .

You may be better off looking at the HKS version of the GT3040 which has the same turbine as your 3037S and a smaller (50 vs 54) trim 82mm GT40 compressor . Its still not a good match in my opinion but looks better on paper than the 3240 and has a few more turbine housing options .

What turbine housing does your 3037S have ?

Cheers A .

Sorry dude should have said my turbo is accually a 3037 Pro s, internal wastaged, not the external gated 3037s. My turbo has the .87(? I thinks ?) A/R T3 flanged exhaust housing.

Righto these are the specs from the turbo we has mentioned straight off HKS USA website, now most of these number dont mean a great deal to me could someone please explain??

discopotato - why dont they look good on paper? Im still learning how you match all this stuff up

HKS GT3037 Pro S - 480 PS Output

COMPRESSOR:

-Wheel- 56 Trim - 57.0 Inducer / 76.2 Major

-Housing- 100 Inlet / 50 Outlet - 0.60 A/R

TURBINE:

-Wheel- 84 Trim - 60.0 Major / 55.0 Exducer

-Housing- T3 inlet / External GT-Pro outlet; 0.68, 0.87 A/R

HKS GT3240 - 580 PS Output

COMPRESSOR:

-Wheel- 54 Trim - 60.3 Inducer / 82.0 Major

-Housing- 100 Inlet / 60 Outlet - 0.60 A/R

TURBINE:

-Wheel- 84 Trim - 54.0 Major / 58.7 Exducer

-Housing- GT25 inlet / External GT30 outlet - 0.87 A/R

HKS GT3040 - 500 PS Output

COMPRESSOR:

-Wheel- 50 Trim - 58.0 Inducer / 82.0 Major

-Housing- 100 Inlet / 60 Outlet - 0.60 A/R

TURBINE:

-Wheel- 84 Trim - 60.0 Major / 55.0 Exducer

-Housing- GT25 inlet / External GT30 outlet; 0.61, 0.73, 0.87, 1.01, 1.12 A/R

They don't look good on paper because of the size difference of turbine to compressor ie 60mm to 82mm = almost 27% , 15-20% is preferable . At least the 50 trim of the compressor helps .

I don't think you mentioned anything about AFM size/exhaust manifold type or if high performance cams are used . There are lots of options ie the cast HKS exhaust manifold/external gate teamed with the larger 1.06 ARR turbine housing . I would check for pressure drop across the intercooler as well .

The RB25 top end if its std may be lacking in the breathing dept so porting/cams/springs or the best option RB26 top end may pay off .

If your looking for a bolt on turbo solution I guess the XR6T's version of the GT3540R could do but its asking the turbo to do all the work probably with a highish boost threshold .

Cheers A .

Thanks disco :thankyou: to answer some of your questions though. Car runs a MAP sensor so no AFM is used just a 4" intake pipe plus 4' exhaust, if I were to upgrade to a bigger turbo a tuned length custom manifold would be used, the head has been ported with uprated spring etc plus HKS cams with higher lift etc also plus a front facing intake plenum.

So how do I go matching turbo with the engine and the power/responce im after?

:D

    • I like it when the counter chick leads you out the back into the racks and says "have a grub around in here and see if you can find what you need. I'll be back in a few minutes. Just left me in front of a massive motorised shelving system and 2-3 million fasteners, so I could find a peculiar SS shoulder bolt with cap head. Gotta love country towns.
    • I used this https://osgiken.com.au/product/os-giken-os-250r-lsd-gear-oil-80w250-1-litre/   shut my nismo 1.5 pro up by heaps…. Not silent though. Gives the car character and personality. It ain’t a carolla. If you want silent, put a quaife in it.
    • It's about the same time for me from Bunnings, or the Fasteners. My big push away from takeaway food, and gluten in general keeps me away from the Bunnings Snags too! Weather up here, I've been out for two walks today in the beautiful sunshine. Had a few little drizzles, and some wind, that honestly, a tin of beans and I could compete on how harsh she blows Thankfully, being this bit inland, we're not getting anything much really. Will probably pick up a bit more when/if Cyclone Alfie decides to come ashore. A few areas in the GC though, and south into NSW are really getting smashed though! Right now, I'm just annoyed Alfie hasn't hit, as I'm not allowed to crack into the BBQ foods like the bacon and eggs until the Cyclone hits "In case we lose power"...
    • I love fastener joints, the price difference between them and joints like Bunnings or Super Cheap is amazing, and they either have exactly what you want, or they can get it to quick They have even given me some for free when I only needed a couple of specific size In saying this, I have paid premium for fasteners from Bunnings if they have the sizes I need, but only for convenience really, as my local is only 10 minutes away, the Sushi joint near them is also a consideration  How's the weather Matt? Stay safe mate
    • Wideband is worth setting up if only for tuning purposes. I would not mess with the ignition system unless there's a misfire. HKS crank trigger is popular out here for the relatively easily sourced Denso crank sensor, not a bad idea to install as well regardless of power level on a standalone. Boost leak test is worth thinking about. Oil pressure sensor tied to a fuel cut isn't a bad idea either. Getting the tune figured out is a good idea. Without putting eyes on it and getting under it there's no way for us to tell you exactly what it needs but most likely you're down to the last 10% that will make a big, big difference in how happy you are with the car.
