How to ge rid of petrol smell ??

Anyone got any ideas on how to get rid of the smell of petrol ??

I just had a surge tank fitted in the boot and a bit of fuel leaked on to the boot carpet. I can smell it thru the cabin now.

Any ideas ??

Removing carpet and replacing is one option I suppose, but I'd rather get and easier way..

Just leave it parked in the sun with the windows open. I think you will just have to be patient, it will go away.

The trouble is the petrol vapour permiates everything, the seats, roof lining, sound deadener, every bloody place.

Leave the car locked up for a while, and the smell comes back. But it WILLl go away by itself. Just give it a bit of help, at least its summer and you can leave the windows down.

I think if you put a peice of charcoal it absorbs the smell, or you might want to put vanilla. I've only heard that these help never tried them myself though.

Don't know if this would work, but people use to use Baking Soda

in their fridges. This absorbs all the fridge smells. I have also seen people use it in shoes to get rid of smells.

when you lock the car up at night try leaving a bowl of baking soda on the seat or something, it should help absorb the smell a little bit

I had a similar problem with a fuel cannister leaking in my boot. After a 2 weeks in the hot sun the smell is starting to go. Is it worth taking the carpet out and washing it ?

works for me, lend my brother for the weekend came back reeking of beer & sweat.

leave it in and let it dry easy.

park it in redfern, all traces of petrol will be removed in minutes.

Then again they'll leafve the tank empty too...
