Do you know anyone that works for a servo? I work for Bogas (Caltex) and I bought a 5 litre Havoline Fully Synthetic 5w-40 Oil for $25.... RRP $43. If you have mates that can get u inside prices it makes a big difference :D

Cheers

i work at an auto shop and i can tell you that the cost of mobil one is very expensive even for us to buy......i dont beleive its available at a reasonable price.Personally i wouldnt use it for the following reasons.... 1.Its just had a price rise (the boss got the sheets and sent most of our order back!)

2.there are other oils which are just as good on the market.

I use the shell ultra which i change quite regularly.I swear buy this oil as i have a B2000 ute with a series 5 RX7 eng fitted and its a real work horse with over 200,000klms on the engine and its a healthy as when it was first fitted....and we all know how hard the rotory engine is on oil

I think it's a 15W...narky, can't remember the rear numbers. I've been advised to use thicker oils during summer. Right now using Mobil 1, some say it's too thin, some say it's good cos it allows easier flowing and turbo engines like thinner oils. Your call, but I'm going to try Shell Ultra Helix this time round....after all Ferrari F1 cars use it :bahaha:

And the Mclaren team uses *tadaaaa* Mobil 1 :P

If you've got extra cash to spend, use Redline engine oil!

Shell it is :P hell why not... i dont use anything but shell optimax either.... might get a shell sticker for my car aye? lol sif

will get some next weekend as i havent changed the oil since i had it... which has been about 4 months now :P oops :D

I agree - Mobil 1 is quite expensive.

I use Shell Helix Ultra as well, and picked up about 5x5litres of it from Super Cheap Auto when they had a 20% off day on boxing day :P

Regular price is around the $45 mark, although you can get it for around $42 on special. Between Kmart, Big W and Super Cheap Auto one of them will usually have a good price on Shell.

Forget Autobarn - they are always about $4-5 more (they also refused an unconditional 20% off voucher I got from one of those entertainment books on the oil :P )

Mobil 1 at best I've seen it at around $50. Usually more (56) from memory.

Shell Helix Ultra is fully synthetic, and has a viscosity of 5w-50w (the SAE grade). This refers to the thickness and the thiness of an oil. There is also another measure of oil quality, it starts with S for petrol?? SA,SB... etc, the higher the second letter the better. It should state somewhere in a service book that a car needs at least SC for example.

Honestly, I'm not sure this is overkill for the skyline, or if a regular or even a semi-synethic oil would also be ok. Opinions? If you have big mods and drive it hard, I'd use the good stuff and service it often. Basic mods and not so hard (like me) - maybe I can get away with something cheaper? I gotta say though, I do notice it, the car responds great from an oil change.

Ronin 09 -> close to 5ltrs (assuming you have no extra coolers and such) if in doubt, measure how much comes out when you change oil, along with the contents of oil filter.

i use motul turbolight 4100 10w-40 fully synth 5ltrs $37.50 all day everyday from racebrakes on racecourse rd.

:P

I thought that the first number in the rating of the viscosity when cold and the second number is the viscosity when warmed up? This is to ensure that there is good flow when starting up or when the external temp is cold, and thicker to aid heat transfer when warmed up? Or the other way around?? I could be thoroughly confused... i think i've gone cross-eyed...

lol i have no idea either im still trying to comprehend it all... i just remember being told to get (for my car) around 15w and i cant remember why they said that would suit it better... oh well

I've heard someone say the same thing (not sure how creditable the source was though). They said something like '5w is too thin for turbos'? Hmmm.... anyway. The Shell website's oil recommender recommends 15w-50w Shell Helix Ultra for a R32 GTR, although in the shops I've only ever seen 5w-50w Shell Helix Ultra?
