Just posting up as i thought i might get the opinion of a few people on here......

My car has been off the road for a long time as i have been low on funds..... Plus being defected and out of rego doesn't help..... ANYWAY

Now that the funds have come back i want to know wheather rebuilding a RB20 is worth it or not. I know your all going to ask.... "what will you being using your car for?"

Well i want to do some track work, i also want an engine that is going to happily pull to 8000rpm no prob's day in day out.

The reason i want to rebuild it, is like i said i want something strong, but also this is my car's 2nd engine (was in there when i bought it) and i have no idea how many k's it has done.

Another thing is that when i put my foot right into it and go over a bump some time my car shakes, then if i back off and then re-aply full throttle it act's as if nothing went wrong.... I wanna know what the hell it is, it basically stops pulling when it does that, i have been told it could be a faulty AFM but i don't know....

Either way i would like to know people's opinions and view's. Have you done it before? Is it worth it? Should i just buy another motor and just drop that in?

If I were you, I'd get a rebuild, especially if you wanna keep the car in the long run. This is because, you are certain that the engine will last you a while yet! Whereas, if you simply replace the engine (although it would work out cheaper) you don't know how long it will last, before it goes bang. Also, if you rebuild, you might as well upgrade internals.

Negatives of a rebuild are, you won't have the car for a while, costs more, need to 'run-in' the engine.

think about a cheap RB30? (refreshed but not forgies)

won't rev to 8k but but we are talking about 50% more cube and better head (more air flow)

why the hell u need to with SO much torque down low?

should cost less then rebuilding a RB20 too

And yeah for sometyhing like that i will need a GTR box for sure to cope with that!

do a search and u will find the gts-4 box is same is R32 GTR :uh-huh:

from 2g - 5g depends what u want, i might getting a r32 soon, so we can build the motor together to bring the cost down :rofl:

i'm not sure its worth the effort. Rb26 rev up to about 9000 right. why not get one of those in and start working that, cost about the same as a proper build right.

I went to the maserati club track day with a mate, at Sandown. Hes got a rb25/30 with a gt35 turbs. Fully forged, got the works cept for head work. Its a pretty impressive car. After the track day he was considering geting a gtr and starting again. same day the RPM GTR took 2 seconds off the fastes 360 modena out there, and that looked like it was setup for circuit.
