Just after i bought my car one of my coil packs broke while i was on my way home from out of town. I had to do about 15km without one cylinder firing. Since then the exhaust temp light occaisionally flashes on and off but never stays on.

I get the feeling i have damaged the cat but before i have pulled it off is there anything else this could be??

Thanks

Which model skyline?

also the exhaust temp light is also your error code for the ECU. So it may be flashing "problem with coil pack" (although it will show up probably as "ignition" in fault code chart).

Also if you have disconnected the temp sensor, that is what it is going to do, just keep flashing..

I just cut my cat exhaust sensor this weekend, and noticed no flashing light syndrome (r32) on mine, but who knows there.

It's on an R32. The coil packs are fine now... replaced them all with splitfire ones. The light flashes very irregularly.

I noticed if the car sits idling for a while then it comes on and stays on but i thought this would be normal due to no airflow to cool anything down.

Not sure how cats go when you throw raw (ie unburnt) petrol through them. You may have damaged the catalyst material to the point where it is partially blocking the cat. This causes excessive temperatures to build up in the exhaust / cat.
