I ran a MT-8 in my old R31 GTS-X. Others may be able to tell you the difference between the LT-8 nd MT-8. The LT-8 would want to be worlds ahead of the MT-8 as it was pretty ordinary compared to the Power FC i now run on my R32 GTST.

Ultimately i was able to get a decent tune and driveability out of the MT-8, but it took time, money and plenty of agro and work....at a minimum id be looking at an LT-12 or Wolf 3-D as they may be available as a plug and play, but at the very least are able to be tuned by laptop far more accurately and quickly compared to the earlier Microtechs.

...then again if Power FCs are available then id be running one of them, even if you need to put in a new loom to do so then id say it may be worth considering...a bit more research may be needed:(

I ran an LT-8 on my 3SGTE and it idles perfectly, cold starts a million times better than standard and ofcourse, made a crap load more power than standard.

You can run an LT-8 on 6 cyl, but they made the LT-12 for that, so as Roy said, if you go Microtech, don't use a LT-8 which is really meant for 4 cyl, you aren't giving it the best chance to work properly.

LT-8 went to the Matrix Mode Mapping system and Laptop control, i run one on my RB25. (Well mine started life as an MT-8, but was reconfigured and upgrade to an LT-8).

always started and idles fine, i must also mention that it didn't control the Idle Air Control valve or any of that stuff, so it was disconnected... didn't make a difference.

personally though i would go for an LT12 next time, or better yet just a PFC D-Jetro.

Dido re the idle, which meant that i had to set the idle at around 1300rpm so that if i turned the steering wheel full lock while stationary the thing didnt stall. Had to have the idle at 1300rpm so that if i pulled up to a set of lights with the air-con on the thing didnt stall.

So ended up getting it tuned at 820rpm and if i wanted to turn the wheel whilst stationary i needed to blip the throttle, and in the case of pulling out of parking space had to make sure i was riding the clutch and flaring the thing as if i was pottering along at idle in 1st gear and turned sharply say in a shopping mall again it would want to stall:(

Then you had the ignition system, which always used to break down and cause a missfire. Turns out the MT-8 needed a good strong voltage. So at night with stereo on and headlights on i had to make sure i had an alternator strong enough to keep up over 12.5 volts otherwise it would miss. So in traffic at night in the wet with the windscreen wiper son , blah, blah, blah, if i boosted it missed like a coil pack had gone.

...thats just a few of the dramas i had, i suppose none were problems once the causes were identified, but they all cost me money as no-one could explain what was happening:(

I have heard they made significant improvements in the newer microtechs and continue to do so. I will be going Power FC cause its cheaper and easier for a hack like me. I just remember the first time I jumped into my car to drive away form RX Engineering, he said, take it for a drive and only pay what I quoted if you are smiling... I couldn't help it... he got his money. They are good units.

    • Hi guys, Sorry to butt in and take it slightly off course, although still on the VCAM subject.  I had VCAM put into my Tomei 2.8 bottom end and I struggle to take off because the engine has very little torque caused by VERY low dynamic compression at 60psi. But once off the mark and especially on boost, the engine rev happily all the way to 8000rpm and makes 630hp at 20psi of boost on E85 at the rear hubs. Has anyone had any similar experience or any suggestions on what might cause this low compression at low rpm? I am in the process of converting it into a 8hp transmission and with this low torque, the engine would not even stay running until the throttle is opened to more than 30% and then I loose all vacuum.
    • Last year I got a set of MCA street coilovers for my turbo Forester after my son hitting a concrete gutter/wall on a small bridge causing the whole drivers side suspension to get bent because the rain just made the car slide out I love them, I think they were $2400. even had a hiccup of have the wrong hub configuration (my fault) so got onto MCA and they sent the correct shock ends overnight parts from QLD, for free!  I was very impressed with their customer service and quality of the product
    • They've had some weird failures on their brake actuators. One of them was because they added some kind of lubricant to the factory fill brake fluid that aftermarket brake fluid didn't have so it would affect the seals. Another was just mysterious, probably internal corrosion or something eating away at Prius brake actuators. Parts alone for those are a few thousand USD so not a cheap fix.
