HICAS problem!

Recommended Posts

I was driving along the highway last night at about 100 when the back of the car pulled really badly from left to right then drove normal again. I looked down and the HICAS light was on. I pulled over straight away and switched the car off. I checked the power steering fluid level but because i was in the middle of nowhere and it was cloudy i didn't have much light. There seemed to be enough in there but i couldn't be sure.

I jumped in and drove back home. Was almost in town and it did it again... this time it didn't throw the car around as much. Other than that it felt completely normal to drive. Steering wasn't heavy and it went around corners normally.

Its an R32 GTS-T auto. Has a aftermarket steering wheel on it with a HKB boss kit. Is the HKB boss kit HICAS compatible? The steering wheel is on straight as well.

Thanks!

Simon

There are an awful lot of threads about HICAS.....

How long is a piece of string? :D HKB make HICAS compatible boss kits, but whether or not you have the right one is hard to say without a model number or at least a picture.

perhaps your car deciding to steer itself at 100kms is *because* there is a problem with the boss kit?!?

 Ding, ding, ding :D

Merlin is right. HICAS problems are almost always to do with either low fluid or an incorrect or incorrectly fitted boss kit.

So if you can tell us what the boss kit is, and even better, provide some pictures of the install we might be able to help.

mine did this aswell mate,

scary stuff,

with a standard steering wheel

and a full fluid level,

I just disconnected the pump at the

back of the car and all head aches

are gone

Does this cause any other problems?

Anway... found a power steering fluid leak. Checked the fluid again in daylight and found it to be only about halfway up the dipstick. Filled it up and fixed the leak but haven't had a chance to go for a squirt out of town yet.

I'm gonna assume that this was the problem and hope that its all fixed now.

That way i can get back to making it quicker!! :uh-huh:
