i got a s13 sil and if i was gonna start from scratch it would b a very close decision between an s13 or r32 (not fair comparing it to an r33/34), i'd have to drive a r32 to help my decision...

How do you find you S13 is to drive? Day to day? On the track...? Ride quality etc?

i've never been to a track, still sorting the radiator out (likes to overheat) but i've pushed it pretty hard and it can be very tail happy but at the same time very controllable.

with the lowered suspension and it being light its a pretty bumpy ride and can get annoying on those pothole roads. but yeh i cant really compare it a skyline coz i never driven one. i driven a magna and wen i got back in my car i thought it was a ferrari haha.

please think your threads through before posting them, 3 threads on relatively the same topic aren't necessary. I've removed one of them. This isn't nissansilvia where you can post a million threads and threads on the same subject.

I've owned a 180sx and an R32, and driven pretty much all the variants. For where I am in my life atm, the Skyline range is a much better car.

I'm glad you've taken the liberty to point these facts out and am comfortable with you removing whatever you think is necessary but you have missed the key points in what I'm trying to tell you: I gather you are a performance car enthusiast, and so if you had a budget of $30,000-$40,000 which car do you think you could make perform better? Obvious choice, the Silvia mainly because it is far cheaper and has just as many performance bolt on (and otherwise) parts for slighty less money than it's bigger brother the Skyline. I can understand very clearly that you prefer the Skyline and that's fine but I'm just trying to get things straight so we know where each other is coming from.

You'll find that both stock standard the cars are very different, the Skyline on one hand, is very refined, fast point-to-point for a standard car, is a car that inspires confidence to drive quickly and will grow on you day after day making you feel like you owe it to the car to modify and upgrade it's performance. The Silvia on the other hand, does in fact feel like a teenagers car, it can be very harsh in ride quality, is noisy and is far lesser of a car (standard). But what I'm trying to put across is, you cannot compare a five year older, less performance delivering car to one that is far better in every aspect, but FOR THE SAME MONEY! You could have blown your bank on a standard car that you still love to drive, but say you have bought a Silvia for $10k, you still have $25-$30,000 left to spend on your Silvia that can fix such things as performance, ride quality, day to day drivability etc until it becomes a better car than the Skyline for near the same or less money.

Ah but performance isn't the only benchmark I'm worried about in a car. I don't want a car that has fast looks and goes fast. I need something I can drive to work every day, take to the track once a month and give it a caning, take my girlfriend and her family out to dinner in, get good fuel economy out of, be able to tweak with aftermarket parts etc. Its a package thing, not just about how fast I can get from point a to point b.

But at the end of the day, you don't have to justify your preference of car to anyone, if you think a silvia's a better car, that's cool.

Well you decide, I own an R33 GTR and drive it every day to work where I work on Porsche and Mercedes Benz. I don't actually care for those sort of cars because of THE MONEY aspect. I agree that it's part of the whole package but I'm not talking about some random person rocking up at your door one day and saying which car do you wan't? Then you look over and see both a Skyline and a Silvia in your driveway, no I'm talking about purchasing one and modifying it AT YOUR EXPENSE. So really, I'm comparing a Silvia with $35,000 poured into it against a stock standard GTS-t. And I'm sure you'd get a a pretty neat little package with that kind of money spent on a teenage boys car, can you see what I mean now?

sure... if you were a teenage boy :D

what you don't seem to understand that I'm trying to say is that for each silvia there is a skyline in the same price range, and if you spent the same amount of time and money on a skyline, you would have a better car overall.

I disagree that Silvia's and Skyline's are in the same price range, you say a GTS-t is in the same price range as an S13, when you said a GTS-t would set you back an unbelievably cheap $16k! WTF?

An R32 GTSt is in the same price range as an S13 silvia.

An R33 GTSt is in the same price range as an S14 silvia.

An R34 GT-t is in the same price range as an S15 silvia.

do you even read my posts? There are skylines other than R33's and silvias other than 15 year old S13's.

F**K YOU! I AM THE KEYBOARD WARRIOR!

Forcefed: To take your questions seriously for a change, regardless of the fact that I think your an albeit entertaining tool, I think if I had $30-$40k to spend on a performance car that is either a:

s13, s14, s15

or

r32, r33, r34

etc

And the goal was performance, you CAN not go past either an r32 GTR 15y+ model with $20k of engine mods spent on it, or an s15 with $15k of mods thrown at it.

I could go in to why, but tell me why you think these would both be good options?

    • UPDATE: Hi all!  As we are getting towards the end of this thread where I’ll showcase final dyno numbers and graph, I wanted to provide an update. Tao from HyperGear has done an amazing job building the custom divided T3 housing for the G30. Communication was flawless, price was great, and now the housing is estimated to arrive in 7-10 days! Very very pleased. I must add, if someone is looking for an affordable turbo and end up reading this thread, I would recommend HyperGear. Genuine brands are the way to go as their reliability is proven, performance can be predictable, and there’s a plethora of information available for specs, flow, and more. This HyperGear recommendation is based on their excellent communication, dedication, and willingness to listen to their customers. I particularly liked their ability to create custom adaptations tailored to specific needs, which is a HUGE benefit over other brands. And if we consider the HyperGear provided dyno results, it adds reassurance knowing their turbos can compete against genuine brands. Next update will be after the dyno!
    • I've previously seen people post up "dress up bolt kits" for RBs but don't remember seeing them specify the full contents. I can only really suggest you grab the verniers and start measuring, and keep in mind the cam cover and timing cover bolts are both quite specific with a wider unthreaded section where the bushes sit, that will make it hard to get aftermarket replacements which tend to be all thread (set screws) or for longer bolts a flat section with a shorter threaded section at the end
    • I believe there was a similar one posted by @duggyphresh. They were re-routing their battery positive cable in the way I am also trying to achieve. Sorry, I’m new to this forum, so was a bit late to the party by a few months and so reignited the old thread, as I wanted to know how they got on with doing it.
    • Wasn't there a thread on this very subject just a few weeks ago?
    • Hi all! Looking to relocate the battery to the trunk of an R34 GTT. I want to do it using as many stock GTR components as I can (including the harness protectors from the 34 GTR that run underneath along the chassis to the engine bay). So far I’ve purchased the battery tray from a 33 GTR, as the captive weld nuts are already there just asking to be used. There is also the slight issue of now having to relocate the ABS/TC/Fuel Pump Control ECU, which in GTT’s sits right above where the battery will then sit on the tray. Has anyone already achieved this, and if you have any pics that you wouldn’t mind sharing? It would be great to see how others have done it and where you put them, as there are countless holes in the parcel shelf panel to potentially use. Just trying to get some ideas bounced around, and to help uncover any potential problems I may encounter by  my choice of location. TIA for any help!
