R32 Type-M Bodykit

Hey all, just got a few questions about bodykits for the ever popular R32 Gts-t :D

Ive currently got the stockest of the stock frontbar for my 32 and im looking to get a bodykit when i eventually respray and get all the blemishes fixed. Ive seen the Type-M factory bodykit which has the side skirts, rear quarts and quite a beasty frontbar.

Here's the questions!

1. Where in Australia can I get my hands on the Type-M frontbar Im looking for?? (hopefully a new one made in australia like the GTR knock-offs that are everywhere, but I'm willing to buy one off one of you guys if ur selling!)

2. Does anyone know how easy it is to fit a FMIC into one of these Type M frontbars?? Does it have enough room to fit a decent sized one?? (eg Trust)

2. Should I just give up on the Type M frontbar and lash out on a GTR one as there would be more room for the FMIC in the GTR frontbar??

My main reasons for choosing the Type M bodykit is the fact its not as low (less bumps and scrapes on low lying objects) and Im not really looking to make my Gts-t look like a GTR.

All advice apreciated greatly!

A few people I know that have GTR front bars on their 32's still needed to chop the bars a little bit to fit the pipping for the FMIC. Not sure about room for the Type M front bar, but im sure you would need to do a fair bit of chopping to fit in a FMIC

cheers for the info sl!m, i hope there wouldnt be too much more cutting involved coz the main difference between the GTR and Type-M frontbars is the lip at the bottom, the Type-M being without it of course.

anyone else with other suggestions??

well actually the "type-m" bar is more of a flat bar, if you look at it from the side.. example (i think)

whereas the "non type-m" bar (or I think the earlier ones) slope in a lot more at the bottom, which is what causes the problems with the fmic fit.

cheers for the pics predator, yeah thats definately the type-m bar at the top. i see what u mean about the type-m bar being flatter at the front, hopefully that'll provide enough room for a decent sized FMIC. i reckon ill give the type-m bar a try rather than give up and go for the GTR front, what can i say i do like the gts-t look :huh: if i cant souce one in adelaide or even australia, ill check to see if they have a chain of "u-pull-it" type places in japan and raid them for cheap body parts!

Wouldnt a wrecker be a good place to start? No one really wants them and the come in a fair bit on half cuts, so you should be able to get a good original (plastic not crappy fibreglass) Type-M front bar pretty cheap.

But remember the Type-M front bar was an option even on the Type-M so not all of them will have the bar you are after (the one with the little vents along the bottom of the lip.)

All R32 GTS-T's come standard with the type m options ie. larger brakes, different steering wheel etc. etc. The first of Predator's picture is the factory option aero kit which is present on my car.

As for putting a FMIC in my front bar it will fit in easily as long as the centre support bar (A bar which sits directly in the middle) is cut out. Even type M bars can fit large intercoolers in pretty easily. I have a mate who just installed a 100mm thick hybrid copy intercooler into his type m front bar which only just fits in.

thanks for the info guys, im glad to hear someones actually installed a FMIC in the bar im looking for with some success :) i reckon theres a few wreckers in adelaide i'll be able to search so all is well. itll be a while till i can actually afford all this of course but now im armed with knowledge. cheers everyone!

My type-M has the front bar from the middle picture. While it doesn't have the lip at the bottom, it's got a funky retractable on which comes down automatically at high speeds or you can control it from the dash. If you'd be interested in that i'll be pulling it off soon for a custom kit.

wow... how hot is that car!!.. that car is an 89' model just for the record.

Also, why would you need to cut holes in the GTR front bar for a FMIC? I thought it came stock with a FMIC... or is this for a larger FMIC?

My Type_M doesnt have the top front bar either, it has the middle one.

So lets start calling the top one the "Aero option" bar rather than the "type_M" bar.

good idea rhett, and to make sure everyone is on the same page the frontbar ive been talking about IS the AERO option one, even tho i was refering to it as the beasty type-m frontbar :) soz for ne confusion guys!!!

I've a '92 Model Type-M and in terms of fitting an intercooler some modifications would be required to fit a FMIC. I've ended up getting an R32 GTS-t specific Blitz kit with piping and managed to get it all fitted nicely.

the only thing I realised was the when I went to put the front bar back on. It didn't fit. so for the centre intake cowling I had to shave back about 4 centimetres of plastic including cutting out the middle support bit to fit it in there.

I also found some brochures online for the R32 series and found that the Type-M front bar and side skirts your mentioning and see on the photos were actually Nissan factory optional extras called the Style Tuning Kit.

Anyways I have a look!

nice work Jenius.... hehe, i also stumbled across something in the DIY section of this site, it looks like a guy has gone through one of those brochures and scanned every R32 Gts-t option and posted it with descriptions, all R32 owners should take a look!! its nuts

I disagree with you Baz.

From Predator's website you can see Gordon swapped his 'front stock "non type-m" single pot crappers (which the car came with) to the "type-m" 4 pot brakes'.

Non-Type M's have a steering wheel very similar to an S13 and have a plastic gearknob. I'm pretty sure the rims are also different. There was a recent thread where a guy had two GTSt's to choose from. One was a black standard GTSt and the other a silver Type M.

    • They should do. I have S14 (or something S chassis, anyway) driveshafts in my R32 (because my diff flanges have 3x2). They're the right length. When you go looking for R32/3/4 driveshafts (for turbos), they're all the same thing, so are the same length. So there really shouldn't be any reason why those cheapies from JJ won't also fit an R34. R32/3 NA should also be the same thing. The (3x the price) D-Max ones are uni-fit. They have 5x1 and 3x2 bolt holes and say they cover all the cars. So that would also suggest that they are all the same except for the flanges. And in that case, the flange goes both ways. I'd be buying the D-Max ones if I ever have to replace a shaft. Because that will open up diff options without needing to juggle shafts also. Juggling shafts is gay.
    • Yeah with the adaptors they do look like the photo above - just the fitment within the plenum itself and then further with the rail to the intake is questionable - we shall see tomorrow hopefully once I get some replies from Aeroflow, maybe those bosses are the missing piece....
    • Should be fine, if you have it sitting too far in, you end up just spraying the walls and have shit idle. You "can" run them like that, however I don't think it's a great idea (also depends on your plenum, might be good to just get the injector bosses first, mock it up and see if you need to get the bottom extension) Ideally your injectors, with the extension should look like this  (Not my photos, just Google)
    • Thanks for the replies guys, it's really appreciated.  It seems the kit was supposed to come with those injector bosses but hasn't. Unsure if they'll help as even with the adaptors to make them a 3/4 height injector they still sit too far out so mount the fuel rail?
