not sure what to do guys

i've got r33 callipers, and r34 rotors :( (due to mistake by seller)

now i can either keep the rotors and sell the 33 callipers then buy 34 callipers (but 34 4 pots are really hard to find, $400+ from importmonster + $200+ of shipping)

or someone near me will sell me some gtr brembo rotors (324mm) for $250 and i could then make up a bracket to suit (have access to cad software and maybe to a computerised laser cutter :D ) then sell the 34 rotors

or sell the 34 rotors and get some 33 rotors and some 12mm id pipe with a 1mm wall thickness

its for a series 2 rs4s - any help appreciated

thanks, Tom

Tom really DUDE just DRILL & TAP out to 14 mm ,this is the only way to do it ,i had my 32 caliper`s done,$50 ,so just don`t be a R A F M :)

these are to important to F__K with,& if something dose happen then how much SHIT will you be in :( ,

dude i just don`t quite follow what is wrong with SLOTTED ROTOR`S PAD`S brake stopper & LINE`S ,you want surface arear so a 157 mm pad as to a 130mm pad,now i drive my car hard & have stock Caliper`s & line`s with no worries at all, just save your self a lot of hassel & get some slotted rotor`s good pads brake stopper line`s, which you could do for maybe $500 & see what there like then :bunny: if you still think there F__KED go spend money ,

I would like to do a set of 327mm Rotor`s & dogbones & stock caliper`s as with big rotor & 157 mm pad would be a great setup on Stagea,

well i have 33 callipers and 34 rotors atm so i have no useable combination atm

i can get the 33 rotors redrilled no worries but i am thinking that for the hassle that i could go bigger again (i can get some gtr 324mm rotors for $250) and i have access to the software to make the bracket and hopefully to a laser cutter as well

so seeing as i've got all these options i'm struggling as to what to choose

got a lot of time to think now tho cos i got the stock rotors machined and they are nice and smooth now :(

also have the option of selling the 33 callipers for $200-$300 too

just not sure what to do :bunny:

Sell & get the RIGHT ROTOR`S & good PAD`S & line`s + brake stopper LIKE I SAID BEFORE really :) ,

stock sized rotors or r33? dont really want to upgrade to something that wasn't big enough when it came out of the factory

i'm making r34 gtt power so i think it should have at least gtt stopping power too, running gtr rotors should suffice

Stock Rotor`s ARE NOT SLOTTED & 33 one`s DON`T FIT from reading POST`S on here :) ,

so the rotor`s from Z350 which bolted straight on to mine, part number`s are all here as i POSTED.

No you don`t drive SKYLINE & same POWER as 34GTT :D ,

TOM the STOCK BRAKE`S just need few bit`s done ,STOCK rubber line`s are 830 mm long & now 10+ year`s old,so SS line`s & a Brake Stopper + good PAD`S & you up with then,

REMEMBER they have 130mm PAD we HAVE 157 mm pad you have the RIGHT bit`s just need to fine tune them & your as good if not better ,

There is nothink wrong with stock BRAKE`S ,

we have all run around on them & made do,

SLOTTED ROTOR`S MAKE A big difference in how the brake respond,

i am not sure you understand WHAT IAM TALKING ABOUT,but may be you will see what iam saying NOW .

i understand what your saying but...

pad size isn't everything, most of it is about the amount of leverage that the callipers have about the axis

plus i am making 140awkw (about the same as a stock gtt's rwkw) in a car that is 1650kg+ and capable of speeds in the order of 180kmh

yes the stock sized rotors are big (289mm) and the pads are big but there is no getting away from the fact that they are only 2 pot

and as i see it atm i can get some gtr rotors for $250 which is cheeper than i can get new slotted stock sized rotors plus i have the callipers and access to a laser cutting machine (i hope, uni should let me borrow it)

to me, making a big brake upgrade will be cheaper than slighly improving over stock

the aim of the car is also to reach 200awkw in the near future and maybe 250-300 down the track

bmc stopper will be on my list shortly as will the lines

also, slotted rotors will eat the pads quicker too

I know what you are sayn man - my setup is great.

Slotted DBA front rotors

Acre light sports pads

Acre braided lines

BM50 bmc

Acre Dot 5 fluid

Dont waste your time with people that just wanna. Go hard chuckie! :(

140awkw isn't huge power.. my Stag is making ~220awkw and I haven't run out of brakes yet even though I drive my car harder than Chuckie does. Same rotors that Chuck has are going on mine soon but with some Greenstuff pads (Chuck only runs blackstuff).

The only real downside to the stock brakes is the fade after a heavy stop. Combat that with higher temp pads and fluid, along with some slotted rotors and you have gone a LONG way towards improving your braking capabilities.

Rotor size is important but just going up in size without optimising the rest of the system is silly. Can you make ABS engage with your current brakes? If so, then you already have more stopping power than your tyres can handle so why give it more?

Edit: oh and most people probably don't realise that the 2-pot Stagea calipers aren't like other 2-pot calipers, the Stageas have a sliding carrier setup where both pistons are on the one side, not opposite each other.

brake lockup is actually due to having too much pressure applied to the rotor in a small area (stay with me) and is caused by the pad shihing too hard onto the rotor and causing the whole thing to stop

larger rotors actually allow you to create the same braking effect with less pressure being applied to the rotor which means you can apply more pressure to the rotor

also, 2 pot sliding callipers are the norm, its not very often that you see a twin pot that is opposed (1 on each side), the only one i've seen like that recently is on my friends 34 y/o merc

also, i know 140kw is sfa power as to what other ppl are running but it was to prove a point that i am making similar power as to what you get in an r34 (which has much more braking capability)

also, there is a kit already that has the brackets and rotors to suit an r33 but i will need 14mm bolt holes in it so i may as well make one myself

i don't agree with that. a larger rotor does not allow you to create the same braking force with less pressure. the brake calliper is going to apply the same force regardless of the rotor size it is clamping on.

what does change is the distance it takes to stop. say to stop your car at "x" speed it takes 4000mm of rotor travel at a constant calliper clamp on the rotor. roughly worked out, on the stock 290mm rotor, ~910mm outer circumference, thats about 4.4 rotations of the rotor and hence your wheel. on a 324mm rotor, ~1017mm outer circumference, its about 3.9 rotations of the rotor and hence the wheel. less wheel rotations = less distance travelled when stopping.

edit: sorry mate just realised you said braking effect, so yeah with less force on the larger rotor the travel would be the same as more force on the smaller rotor. :)

Well what to say ,We all know BIGGER ROTOR are better,

But to many get LOST in CLAMPING Pressure,AGAINST Surface arear,& with a SMALLER PAD & GREATER Pressure,

Where A BIGGER PAD with less Pressure is about the same as having the 4 Pots,

having had the 4 POT`S on my car & the toke them off,

Now Tom you talk about making Spacer for BOLT`S :) if any thing dose happen you may have a BIG PROBLEM on your hand`s ,the best way is to Drill & TAPE to 14mm,

Duncan has Bigger Brake`s on his Stagea so may be ASK him what is BEST WAY to go ,

With your STATEMENT that SLOTTED ROTOR`S will WEAR PAD`S OUT QUICKER LOL :) DUDE it help`s remove the GAS from the Surface ,& as your PAD dosen`t run on the Rotor it`s a Chemical reaction so may be someone is FEEDING YOU BS,

any way as your in your only world i will leave you to carry on with your PROJECT,

good luck i think you will need it ,

Cheer`s Chuckie.

who me?

I've posted before in this thread but here is my opinion.

1. stageas are underbraked. Maybe if you take it easy they are OK (any modern brake can lock a wheel in for stop, its the spritied drive or run down a hill that show up weaknesses). I don't take it easy so it is not OK.

2. best value for money upgrade IMHO is r32gtr/r33 gtst calipers. You get them for $500 + $400 discs + $100 pads for a "sporty" pad, and 99% of people will not have problems. $1k for essentially brand new brakes.

3. If you are 1% of people like me the ksport/g4/d2/whatever brake sets are excellent. $2k for 330 or 356mm rotors, 8 piston alloy calipers, braided brake lines and "street" or "sport" pads. Direct bolt on (or maybe the M12 vs M14 problem which can be solved for 20c). This is what I run and I have never experienced fade even on the race track.

4. you can spend $8-10k on name brand AP/Brembo/endless/project mu if you like. It will be no better than kpsort ones.

G`Day Lad`s & Lasse`s ,

Brake line`s ???,

Who has CHANGED them & what have you used to REPLACE STOCK LINE`S,

Now i have sent a PM to PHIL guy sorting out a Group buy on Braided line`s ,

He`s going to check when the kit`s come to see if there same or close to what we need ,

so hope we can get a replacement at good price ,

So please post up what you have & some Photo`s if possible aswell,

Cheer`s Chuckie.

Maltech is the brand of my braided brake lines.

However Ive upgraded the fronts to 4-pot R32 calipers, using a Hel brand braided line connecting to the block of the Maltech

with slotted discs this brake upgrade was fine for the race track, no fade or runoff all day.

I guess series 1 lines (Tangles') would be different to series 2 lines (Chuckie's)?

If anyone can get a group buy going on braided lines for the series 2 I am definitely in. Previous group buys on SAU for braided lines (at least 2 that I know of) didn't offer Stag options

Dave he will put INFO UP for us & we can get in on deal IF they FIT ,

If not hope he may find some that will AS i would like set ,may LOOK at what Back`s are aswell, give him some size`s & as someare Banjo so need to see what & who want`s then,

soneed to get then out &see what we need,

hi im in perth with 97 rs4, all stock. allthe pad numbers u give i cant get. there not in books and not on the shops computer.

all i can get is standard boring lucas gdb1002 and gdb3273 standard. and only special order + frieght! the cost is 3/4 of genuine nissan which are metal pads.

any sugestions. x

would anyone be keen if i was to make a bracket to run gtr rotors under stock callipers?

been a bit busy with uni work and havn't really gotten much further along with my setup yet but i've had a few ppl wanting to buy my 33 callipers so i might sell them

hey guys i have just bought a S1 RS4 and need to replace the pads already replaced the rear rotors from nissan. just wondering if anyone knew what they are the same as? i have heard they are same as R31 but others have said R32. any help would be awesome looking at a set of Project MU Street/Track pads

cheers

    • Yeah, the advent of canbus was supposed to cut down on wiring weight, then some bright marketing wonk says "oh, look at all these wonderful tech gadgets we can cram in here now that we have this wonderous technology" and some arsehole safety legislator says "oh, look at all the wonderful surveillance and tracking gadgets we can cram in here now that we have this wonderous technology" and some dipshit young engineer who has grown up thinking that an extra 500000 lines of code is not a problem because storage is cheap these days says "oh look at all this wonderful shit I can do to one up those dipshit arsholes over at VW" and the Karens of the world all go "oh look at all these fancy things I can do on my screen (so long as I am not driving on a bumpy road wherein touch screens immediately become the single most stupid shit idea ever shoveled into a car) and my 19 zone airconditioning keeps my sweaty fat folds a bit less damp and the windows close themselves because I'm too fat and lazy to wind them up for myself and these reversing sensors would have been great if I'd paid attention to them instead of smashing them on the bollard while I was reversing and staring fixedly forward that day I went to pick up little Charlize from ballet" and the sweaty mongoloids who say "oh this wonderful collision avoidance technology with these 45 excellent radar antennae scattered across the front of my car mean I can tailgate like a methed up tradie at full speed with no fear because the car and the 35 airbags will protect me if it all goes wrong" ...... </shallistopranting?>
    • There's a post from a member (can't recall who), went down the path of a twin scroll G30-660 and it's doing over 300kW+ AND comes on about the same as a high flow RB25DET turbo. Have your cake and eat it too in this case. TBH, if I had a 2nd chance of building my car again (i.e. someone gave me what I wanted for my shit box, but the deal was I had to re-build another R33 and keep the change) I would just pop in a stock NEO motor (with new seals, rod bearings, ARP studs, head gasket, sump, Nitto pump), get a smaller twin scroll turbo, modify the stock low mount (keep the divider in place), and make a solid 300kW on 98RON and call it a day.
    • It's all the sound deadening, and extra shit piled into them, plus all the extra (even though it's thinner) material for crumple zones. I can't fathom in modern cars why they need canbus to the headlights, and why the headlights must be vin coded on some cars to the ECU, BCM, and security module! Especially when they claim it's for security, yet, the canbus at the headlights let's thieves steal the car in minutes, so even more cars are being stolen! The Mercedes Sprinter 907 vans. They're a huge van, but a "basic" van. Yet they have that many canbus networks, plus two Lin networks, AND an Ethernet network. Logging a single network alone of 8 byte data frames, and they will generate a 20mb log file in 5 minutes. That's one network, and I can't remember the exact amount, but there's over 10 full CAN2.0B networks in them. I'm not a fan of modern cars, oddly, more and more I hate DBW, and all the bullshittery the cars try and interfere with. But all that bullshittery adds weight, plus crazy regulations on crumple zones, plus, ever picked a modern seat up, half of them have like 4 electric motors in them and will weigh 30+kg each. Then all the motors for things like adjustable steering columns blah blah blah. And did I mention the sound deadening so you can even hear an ambulance right behind you even if you 7.2surround sound is off?
    • Ah ok, yeah it should be flat, I believe the r34 battery tray has these 3 bumps in them they makes it line up and everything is flat, don't see how it would tilt if everything is secured.
    • Agreed it actively wants to kill you which I love driving fast cars slow is my stick
