Hey guys and girls,

Im really interested in this importing myself of my new car but there are some questions i need to find out.

What company do you recommend as a good one to use?

I have no idea what this 15 yr rule is and would it effect a R32gts-t?

How long does shipping usually take?

Once car arrives what exactly do i do from assuming it arrives in Brisbane?

How much should i be up for in total once the car is purchasd etc etc?

Do i need to purchase an importing licence? if si how much?

Anything thats said will be a huge help.

Thanks to all whom reply

ok...

The main known companies are Prestige Motorsport www.prestigemotosport.com.au and J-spec Imports www.j-spec.com.au. There is a thread in the Vic section with a list of importers too.

The 15yr rule basically stated that any car over 15yrs old could be imported - however DOTARS have changed this and now the only way to import under these conditions is if your car was built BEFORE 1989.. I call it the pre-89 rule to save confusion. This means that you can no longer import r32gtst's because there were none that were built before 1989.

BUT there is another importing scheme: SEVS Specialist and enthusiast import scheme (Im pretty sure thats what it stands for). There is a list with all the cars that quilfy to be imported under SEVS, One of which is the R32gtst.

The advantage of SEVS is that you will most likely get a good quality skyline as all vechiles imported under SEVS must not have any previous accident history. Another advantage is that, as long as the car you are looking to buy is on the SEVS list, it can be made in any year.. this means you can get a 93' model r32gtst.

The disadavantage of SEVS is probably compliance. Under the 15yr rule, you can have the car complied whenever, and by whoever (yourself even). But under SEVS there is a set time frame (I *think*) and you must have the car complied at a RAWS. At the moment there aren't that many RAWS that will comply r32's which makes SEVS compliance very expensive (3,000 to 4,000). Another disadvantage of SEVS, is that the car must be completely stock (right down to the rims) when applying for compliance, so it is very difficult to bring in a heavily modified car.

To my understanding, one of the significant factors that will effect the time of shipping (if you consider it to be shipping) is what port you car is leaving from Japan. Not that long ago some ports, or one in particular kept on keeping private importers cars off the boats as larger companies (toyta) wanted to put their cars on the ship, which have priority over the private importers. But if you want to know the time it takes for actually sailing it takes about 12-14 days from Japanese ports to Brisbane.

Once the car arrives it will be checked into customs, where AQUIS check your car for bugs and dirt that could be dangerous. Your car may need to be steamcleaned or have some sort of crazy powder put into the seats and stuff (don't know much about this).

It is very difficult to say how much you will spend all up becuase you haven't specified what you want on your skyline (mileage, condition etc). But from a very very very rough estimate you *could* be looking at about $12,000-$15,000? thats landed and including compliance but not rego. Someone correct me on this if I'm wrong.

You don't need an importing license.

Hope this helps

:D

    • Had a chat to Tony Mamo - he advised that looking at the graph's shape (regardless of number translation) it shouldn't be levelling off like that up top. He said it looks like the car is running a restrictor plate or something of that nature. Luckily the last dyno pull on E85 was saved to the PC - So I did a quick trace of Barometric KPA vs Intake manifold pressure, and lo and behold I see a copy of the 'waves' I was seeing on the dyno: I'm not entirely sure how to go about addressing this. It may be worth sacrificing IAT to run a more direct intake for the motor. Though packaging this could be flat out impossible given the constraints of the car. I should have removed the intake pipe to see if this made a difference but looking at this graph I now have something to potentially test in the future and think about. This one is from an old track day log in the OLD setup going through gears on track.
    • Oh, I forgot too, all the multimedia stuff captured and sold through things like people playing Pokemon Go. Pokemon Go specifically, can actually be traced all the way back to a CIA investment company too. So yep, they're watching everything. Not to mention the new stuff where they've worked out how to use WiFi signals to be able to map occupants inside of a building. That one would be something that I see being more used in public/government buildings, as you need to understand the signals when the room has no one in it first. It's not as easy as Hollywood would like you to think it is.
    • Followed ☺️ Assuming those are NEO rods, then at least 400kW all day.
    • Lets keep this going , Spotted this very stock V35 in Penrith and also saw a nice R32 FLY past me on Castlereagh rd , sounded really good.
    • Great work! Give it a clean up with some Emery paper, and I'd run a thread die over the threads too to clean them up. It will make reinstall much easier, and also life easier for the next time it needs to come out.
