What a cool two days. I dont feel too tired today after hitting the hay at about 8.30pm last night! Big Well Done to James for completing it. We had plenty of opt out options along the way including the train, ringing people (with the exception of the coach!) but he ploughed on and did it.

Looking forward to these pics as it was stunning weather.

Next weekend is A OK from my direction with Nic and I.

Well, another team Wang training ride complete. Today we cycled from Sandringham down to Portsea which took us 4.5 hours including stops.

Had lunch in Portsea with the Nic and Min who kindly drove down in their cars to collect the lunatics.

Pics will be up later. Not too many taken but was a very memorable ride.

Well done to Troy and Chris for completing it and thanks Min and Nic for collecting us.

Some crazy crazy dad was flying a kite on the end of a fishing rod which he managed to fly over the top of the ferry. This kept us amused with its many dives close to the top deck of the boat.

Watching him try to reel it back in from what would have been a good 150 metres was even better as the kids he had with him looked bored by this stage!

Just to remind everyone that this is on on Sunday.

If you need to drive to Portsea or Queenscliff - don't.

If you do - look out for Iceman, Goose, Roy Rogers and Dutch as we cycle our way toward amber glory at the finish line. If you live near the route - wave to the heros that ride past. Clap, cheer - offer them a tequila shot or some black market pig hormones. It's an effort that wont go unnoticed.

Come to Docklands after 3.00pm to join us in an ale or 16 :P

Let me be the first to say, well done guys. I know we all spoke after it yesterday but so the rest of SAU knows. Chris, Troy and James put in an awesome awesome effort and definately deserve a beer. Top work and it impressed me.

Had 10 hours sleep last night and am feeling OK today. Had a bath and a pizza and a Carlton Draft (thanks Bec!) before hitting the hay.

Should probably give a quick run down of the day. Crashed at James' Saturday night (thanks mate) and got up at 4am to go and collect Bris in Team Lada. Met Chris in North Melbourne and cycled down to the start from there.

Made very good time down to Portsea and passed a uni cycle amongst hundreds of other bikes. What off set our times was the queue at Portsea for lunch and the ferry which took up a good hour all together.

Crossed on a smaller boat (not one of the big car ferries) and saw a couple of Dolphins jumping around in the bay.

Hey, well done guys. I totally forgot this was on over the weekend, although was not up to a long drive to come support anyway.

I justly proud of you all and can only suggest a couple of things.

Get out for a gentler peddle later today or tomorrow if you can and a few light rides through the rest of the week then on Sat go for a hammer over some hills. See what power you have in the legs then.

I used to do 3 days to a week skiing before the big races and would come back flying on the bike. A long ride like this will give you great endurance and increase the pain threshold heaps.

Cool, thanks Geoff. I normally spin after a tough ride to reduce the lactic acid and then a spin as you are suggesting maybe tomorrow. Then perhaps a refresher on Friday and a grind over the weekend.

Trick now guys is to keep that fitness level up as you do have a very good base with which to work from.

Skiiing is an interesting one but I can see it working welll as you are not using the same muscles as cycling but are exercising. Similar to running but less strenuous (I assume you are talking fairly gentle skiing as opposed to ski jumps and mogles (sp?))

I found skiing was a massive quad, glute and illiotibial band workout which are the driving muscles and did downhill including some giant slalom and regular slalom. The workouts are beyond the lactic threshold and increase both that and the pain threshold, not to mention outright power.

Could be the final bit of encouragement I need to actually take to the slopes rather than just filming each time! Thanks Geoff!

I was surprised I could walk this morning. That last 50km was done on pure determination and nothing else.

Anyone who is thinking of doing this event... Don't.

Or at least don't under estimate it as we did.

    • Because all parts that are put into your papers usually are assigned a badging if they did not come with one. So other people can just check that badging to tell if it is the parts your papes outline. But my pipe has NOTHING on it whatsoever. No idea why this even passed as a Mines pipe to begin with. I see this going two ways: -nobody cares and it's a non-issue, but that is unlikely -the pipe will just have to be assigned a bagding, for sake of argument, a Mines logo, and the papers corrected accordingly If it interests you I will post what the actual solution ended up being. All I care about is that it has to sound equal length and nobody can screw me later on because of a pipe being illegal.
    • The fasteners to the pipe are not subject to TÜV I guess, if we really start putting nuts and bolts through technical tests I'm going to hang the people responsible and then myself. Usually on a modern-ish EU normed car, you would just replace the pipe. Because if you start hacking away at it and welding new pieces on the cops will definitely find a reason to tow your car. That is just how it is sadly. On old cars and imports with no clear "standard" stuff like that won't matter too much. Most cops or inspectors probably won't even really know what they are looking at. But there is experts for this stuff even among cops, and some of them know the rules to a T and even have extensive knowledge about many vehicles. For "just a pipe" to be legal it usually is included in a set of parts, like a complete intake kit or a full exhaust. For example my exhaust needs to pass a noise test, meaning they have a standardized test track with a set of instructions and they run the car through there 3x for an average noise value that is 75dB(a) at point x of the test track. If it's above that, fail. For a turbo setup to be put in your papers you have to do dyno runs, emissions testing etc. So quite costly
    • Would this not be the same for the exhaust you've posted up?  If your exhaust volume and emissions are fine, why does the brand of pipe matter? 
    • The issue is more the fact that there is inspectors that deal with japanese cars a lot and they might know what a real Mines pipe looks like. And then they're gonna get antsy and not pass your car. But I'd have to talk to one of them about this, because you know as well as me that it's just a damn pipe and it effectively doesn't do anything. As I need to have my GT2860s and my exhaust setup (and the increase in HP) TÜV'd anyways maybe they can just correct the entry in the papers or assign a badge to the front pipe. I'm no expert either though, will inquire about this.     Thanks for the insight. Not sure if having a custom made pipe is good or not. Will find out in due time I suppose. Would be kind of funny if this was made in Germany though.
    • See this is a really tricky topic as technically the same rules apply to all cars but for cars but there is a difference. If you want to modify a car like the Skyline which never existed here you have a bit more freedom as they do not adhere to EU specs anyway. Any modification you do has to be in dividually checked anyway so as long as one of the inspectors think it's ok and within the TÜV ruleset you can get stuff like a top secret rear diffuser put in your papers. Which frankly would need a shitload of tests and certificates for EU spec cars, like a 2010 BMW M3 for example. But if you DO run these tests and all tests come out ok (safety stuff for the most part) there is no problem running such a part legally. It's just way too expensive to do for a single person on one car. The most touchy parts are emissions related mods, like an exhaust, turbos, air intakes. If it makes noise or alters the carbon emissions it's essentially illegal until you prove it's not. Meaning it doesn't exceed noise limits or have worse carbon emissions. I'd say for hoses if you replace them same same it doesn't matter what material they are or what brand you use. Same for nuts and bolts usually, they won't go and specifically check that your water hoses and some bolts are 100% OEM parts, that is nonsense.
