Actually the TV coverage is an "interesting" deal.

We put in place an agreement with AVE to televise the year at a price.  They then came back with a price 20% higher 4 weeks later and said take it or leave it.

We called their bluff and left it.

However each of the first 3 rounds various competitors including BSM came up with the money for coverage, I did not hear confirmation if this round was done.

It will also get coverage in Motorsport news next issue :(

Richard I had a chat to Spencer, can you grab 2 bottles I'll give it a run at wakefield ;) Will give you a shout about logistics once I know the deal with the car...I have to decide whether to enter tomoz too :)

Will do mate. I will be up at his place tomorrow.

I knew you would know the story on the coverage issue. :( We are hoping for some good coverage of Rob as it's his first time ever leading a race and we finished the round 3rd. Plus we had just the week before put the new decals on the car... nice timing.

Nice pics from Kel BTW :) I was just about to start the ol' picsorban routine...

I think wakefield should be a goer mate. If you need a hand i believe i will be free that weekend. i can check tyre pressure, calculate fuel usage and fuel needed, and bleed brakes. haha too easy.

hahaha that chin spoiler fell off on its own, I am innocent!

Gary I needed the plates to drive home. Which seemed like a brilliant idea until I needed to call the tow truck :) We'll be taking a trailer down to Wakefield.

Richard....fuel usage?....:slap:....;)

cc....you can drive, it just needs practice....I have done literally thousands of laps around there....come on out to the Aaron McGill day and give it a run.

I understand Karl blew up his engine on Friday practice which sucks, it would have been great to have a few skylines out there at the same time :P

Hey Duncan, any news on the coolant leak? I fitted a brand new PWR radiator and top and bottom hose this week, just as a safe guard because I havn't had any temperature problems up to date and bugger me if the little hose behind the head that connects the turbo water return starts pissing coolant. Bastard of a job to replace the tiny hose.. Anyway I eventually fixed it and i was thinking maybe this might be the hose that let go on your car. I imagine GTR's would have a similar water return? Hope that's all it is mate.

Ian

Yeah there are a couple of coolant lines with the turbs as well, that would be OK i guess. I'm having a sick of cars week this week and have left it sitting there :kick: but will sort it out next weekend.

When's your next sprint?

Duncan, Next weekend at EC, I'm doing OK leading Class SVD, getting the 044 FP and swirl pot fitted on Tuesday and retune and should be going good. I've worn out the front re55s and have a near new pair of R compound Yoko Advans to put on. Getting desperate now that i'm spoiled using sticky tyres...LOL I'll keep you informed Duncan, I'm going to try and come down and watch you at Wakfield..Good luck

Ian

Good luck at Eastern Creek, 1st in a state champ is more than just doing OK, well done!

It will be interesting to see what you think of the yokos, I hope they are the A048 not A032. Either way I think you'll find the bridgestones were better ;)

Hi Duncan, had a few hiccups . C&V fitted the swirl pot and 044 during the week and all was good until just after startup, fuel pissing out of the stocko rubber fuel line that connects metal fuel pipe to the new 044. On inspection they obvioulsy pushed off the rubber pipe with a screwdriver and punctured the line. Not a biggie and they replaced the original rubber with a new bit.

Driving down to Sydney on Saturday afternoon on the expressway just around the Berowra turnoff, temperature soares from 78* to 115*, pull over immediately and coolant all gone. Shiekes, rang mate in Forster that worked for a towing business and he came down and picked me and the car up ($300) went back to Forster and he put a pressure tester on the radiator and found a pipe under the intake manifold had busted. Removed starter motor and fixed that refilled with water and by that time it was around 2.30am Sunday morning. So rang dad and got him to drive me to Eastern Creek.

Car ran fantastic, couldn't improve on my fastest time but close with 1.49.5790. that was on my second lap of the first run and I recon I drove faster and better later during the day but times proved otherwise.

Won class SVD and have a good lead with 2 rounds remaining. Results on Natsoft.

Hey Duncan, have you heard about anything that relates to times on the track, not improving in the afternoon as compared to the morning?

Duncan, they are A032. Arn't they any good mate? You scared me and i ran two brand new RE55s WETTIES on the back. Jessusss they stick like **** to a blanket , hopefully i'll get another day out of them. Tyres are a worry expensive and wear quickly. Anyway next Sunday week at OP on the GP curcuit 2nd last round.

hmm next sunday OP GP circuit you say? I may be able to enter this one. Do you know what class i will be in (32 GTR)? Also do i need to be a member of any of the car clubs hosting the event? I am a member of SAU NSW.

Congrats on the results too. Very good time at EC!

Re not improving in the afternoon.....normally just simple things like tired driver and hotter track which means you need to lower the tyre pressures a bit.

But most likely of all, (just a guess since didn't see you drive) you will find if you start to push a car too hard you will start too loose time....smoothness is the key to a quick run...most important of all at Eastern Creek is speed out of turn 12 and 7, thru turn 8 and out of 9, if you push too hard, get understeer, have to back off and then get on it again you will loose a few km/h everywhere.

Richard you don't have to be a member of the organising club for the state champs :D

Geoff that IP car goes pretty well considering that is probably the hardest class to run a GTR in....I would guess it is the heaviest car in the field. And the intake restrictors would kill it....34mm = around 340hp - hell we get close to that with the production car.

That happens to me. You think you are going faster but the clock says not.

in your case Adam I have seen you driving and I bet you are overdriving the car :) you really get right up that poor old auto :D

re overdriving....you need to back off a bit and focus on mid corner and most important of all exit speed. Late braking which leaves you understeering mid corner feels faster but isn't

Lets say you brake 10m later when you are pushing, in that 10m you are probably gaining .5 second at whatever rate the car slows down. On the other hand leaving a corner 10k/h faster will give you 10k/h for the whole of the following straight which could be 20 seconds or more

uh-huh. The guys from Brandster was saying that their IP car makes heaps more power and torque than the CT car until about 6000rpm, up top the CT car has a 'tad' more top end. simply because it has no inlet restrictors. The IP car has great torque, great drive out of the corners, but bugger all down the straight compared to the un-restricted NA cars. well bugger all may be an exageration, but it is down on straight line speed that is plain to see.

The imbalance is easy fixed there should be a restrictor on rotary cars as well as turbos. Both rotary and turbo is treated as a 1.7 capacity multiplier by CAMS but only one has a restrictor in IP?

Hi Baron, It's next Sunday week on the GP Circuit at OP. Next Sunday thought there is a meeting at Eastern Creek for Southern District, AROCA, Holden Car Club, NSWRRC. I recently joined Southern District Sporting Car Club because they have heaps of Supersprints and cheap too (around the $140 mark). If you join one of the competing clubs you will be able to compete for sure.

Ian

sounds good. All i have to do before then is new front pads, rotors and a bleed. other than that i think the car is pretty much good to go. oh, musnt' forget to mount the extinguisher too.

I have been along to quite a few AROCA days in the past as two of my friends are big alfa guys. i even drove an alfa at one! i still feel dirty...

HaHaHa...You don't have to drive a Alfa to join their club.. I found that Southern Districts combined with about 4 clubs that took turns to host Supersprints. NSWRRC is a good one to join cause it's only about $40 for the year and every event that they host is $10 cheaper if your a member of NSWRRC..so you get your money back after 4 events.

When I compete in State Championship Rounds I only compete for the Skyline Australia NSW Branch.

Hey Duncan, have you heard about anything that relates to times on the track, not improving in the afternoon as compared to the morning?

Ian

Hi Ian, happens all the time, Duncan correctly mentioned driver issues. But the track really gets crappy as the day wears on, more people bring stuff back on after a few offs, the ambient air temp goes up, so less power, the engine, tyres, brakes etc go off as well. The race team RX7 was within 5/100ths of the outright IP lap record in the Sunday Morning race and couldn't get within 1 sec of it in the afternoon race.

The imbalance is easy fixed there should be a restrictor on rotary cars as well as turbos. Both rotary and turbo is treated as a 1.7 capacity multiplier by CAMS but only one has a restrictor in IP? the intake restrictors would kill it....34mm = around 340hp

Hi Dunk, you really need to update your CAMS manual. N/A rotaries are double the Mazda calculated capacity (13B = 2.6L ), then times 1.7 for turbo. So a turbo rotary 13B is 4.4L. The IP restrictor for a turbo car is 1 X 36 mm or 2 X 27 mm for a twin turbo. The WRC cars are 34 mm, that's where the most commonly quoted power output of 340 bhp comes from. The 2 X 27mm restrictors is slightly larger than 1 X 36mm, but the GTR is still nowhere near 400 bhp.

There is only one RX7 in front of the GTR now and 10 rotaries behind it. That RX7 is very well prepared and driven by a class driver, has a good engine builder, top brakes and excellent suspension starting with Ohlins dampers. On the longer circuits the V8's are really the problem, they have no restrictions so make >700 bhp from their 6 litre dinosaurs. At Philip Island there is a far bigger differential, they get to 275 kph and the GTR struggles with the airflow restrictions from 225 kph. Even at Sandown (two drag strips joined by a wiggle) the RX7 struggles with V8's and the GTR would be even worse off.

All that said, IP racing is the best class around, we have simply learnt how to work within the regulations and make the best car we can out of it.

:D cheers :)
