Hi Ian, happens all the time, Duncan correctly mentioned driver issues. But the track really gets crappy as the day wears on, more people bring stuff back on after a few offs, the ambient air temp goes up, so less power, the engine, tyres, brakes etc go off as well. The race team RX7 was within 5/100ths of the outright IP lap record in the Sunday Morning race and couldn't get within 1 sec of it in the afternoon race.

Hi Gary, thanks for that explanaition. One guy told me also that in the afternoon the cars suffer from "heat soak" and just don't perform as well. Lower top speeds on the straight etc. And if you can't get a time in the morning your wasting your time in the afternoon.

Yep, it's all downhill after midday, even worse if I eat too much lunch. I have never been very good at turning up and racking up a time first run in the morning though. I need a few laps to get the brain up to speed. So I tend to get faster as the day goes on, even at Oran Park where I have done a thousand laps or so.

:P cheers :D

Gary, that's what surprised me because on my second lap of the 1st Supersprint, I was still relearning the track and not pushing the car and being a bit cautious sort of feeling my way a bit. I was surprised at my time 1:49:57 on my second lap and thought to myself, I'm going to get a 1:48 something. Never happended, although I drove smoothly and I thought a little more agressively on later laps. Didn't spin or lock the brakes up once all day. I enjoyed it all though. Can't wait to get back on Oran Park on the 28th August.

Ian,

I have joined up with the SSCC and have my entry in for tomorrows sprint at EC. Just finished doing all the brakes etc and it's all systems go for tomorrow. Should be a good day.

If anyone is coming out I will be in the grey 32 GTR with Rice Engineering stickers down the sides, car 295.

should be a top day :)

Fly that flag Duncan well done and I am impressed. I might loook at you different from now on. I have been busy and have not been on the forum much sorry for the late well done. Beer Baron was at the SAU drag day and told me you were running that arfternoon. It was very tempting to come out but playing Grand Turismo 6 days a week and only Sunday family day well it is hard. I would rather be driving as you would understand like tomorrow at E Creek in the slot car for a Supersprint.

john you should come out. I am racing in the GTR. Bring your Zed Sled. They will still be taking entries right up until the 8:45am drivers briefing.

should be a good day :)

Gary you are being very kind, you guys had the numbers on me all weekend, the closest I got was .3 seconds, I can't wait for the next round once we put a tune on the car.

I had a really good weekend of racing, Qualified 4th and finished 2nd, 2nd and 5th.

The last race in particular was great, I got a top start, managed to chop chop the BSM GTR off the line and into turn 1 (unlike the race before where I stupidly left the door open). Held the lead for the first 2 laps but in the end Coles was too quick and there was no point trying to block him for 10 laps so thru he went with a quick dent on the way thru. At least I got to return the favour on the exit of the corner (Gary is HGE32R imprinted in the rear bar lol)

A lap later that pesky WRX got thru as well with another dent in the front quarter panel (have these guys been playing too much GT4?) leaving me a comfortable 3rd. From there the other GTR and the WRX were having a great battle which let me catch up to them nicely. Until....

I arrived at turn 10 with *no* front brakes...I hit them at the usual braking mark just before the 100m sign and got....nothing....I kind of pitched it into the corner since the only other option was deep into the kitty litter, and since the rear brakes were still working OK I did a lovely 720o spin, and recovered to 5th. Another spin a couple of laps later with the same problem and I came home 5th.

So, overall it was a great weekend, I was stoked to be competitive especially considering the development that has gone into the other cars. I think once we can keep the engine together more than 2 race meets in a row that we might have a chance outright :O

A huge thanks to Neil and Kel for their support thru the weekend, and to the rest of the team for all their help getting me on track in the first place. It was really great to get out there at last!

Well done mate. I was keen to whip across to Wakefield to catch up while I was in Canberra all weekend doing finals on the rental house but was just too damn busy. Didn't even have time to catch up with any of the ACT crew. Still recovering from back mechanics 3 weeks ago so everything takes 3-4 times longer to get done.

So will we get some TV coverage of this one??

I think once we can keep the engine together more than 2 race meets in a row that we might have a chance outright :

That's a worry, did I hear bottom end knocks?

Please tell GTRgeoff what the final prognosis is, he likes to hear about RB26 bottoms.

What sort of sump arrangement are you running?

Oil return to sump?

PM me if you like.

:( cheers :(

PS; Regardless of the modest approach you take, the BSM budget is MUCH larger, so on a dollar per lap time basis you are miles in front.
