Hi all,

As some of you are aware, and many of you are not, there was what appears

to be an attempted car jacking on Friday night in a northern suburb of

Melbourne.

For security reasons I am not divulging too much information, and posting

under an alternate username. Let me assure you I am a long term member of

these forums and posting this in all seriousness.

The short story is that we had stopped on a darkish suburban side street for

a couple of minutes, car still running, lights on, when a car that had

passed us a few minutes earlier came screeching to a halt right in front of

my car, boxing us in from the front. There was another car that at the same

time, came to a stop right behind us slightly to the right, boxing us off

from the rear and several passengers, young guys probably in their mid 20s

immediately jumped out of the cars, standing at the front and the right side

of my vehicle. We were very confused as to what was happening, and when I

looked in my side mirror, I saw one of the approaching guys appear to be

pulling out a gun.

The whole thing happened so quick that I still don't understand how I

managed to get away. When I mentioned something about a gun, still very

confused, my passenger screamed at me to GO and we think the car in front

rolled back a bit, thinking we were about to ram him when I floored it, I

released the handbrake and flew up the street heading straight for the

police station, calling 000 on the way. I was very lucky to get us away in

one piece.

I don't think we were followed or hunted down, I think it was just

coincidence that we were seen and it was an opportune moment for them. Of

course we are still taking all precautions possible, however nothing had

happened previously to instigate any attack, nor do we mix in circles of

drug takers or the drug trade, we did not bring this upon ourselves in my

opinion.

Although the police suggested it may have been mistaken identity (friends

or foes), I really don't see how they could mistake the female driver of an

imported vehicle for anyone other than herself, we all know there is a male

owner/driver majority of these types of vehicles in Melbourne.

The police also suggested the cars were dragging, however they definately

meant business, they were not people who were having some fun on a side

street, their actions prove this is not a possibility.

Anyway knowledge is power, this information is being shared so you can be

reminded to take all precautions and try to keep safe, I would never have

thought this would happen and in many ways have become lax with security and

caution over the last few months. Be aware of who and what is around you and

where your partner is at all times.

If anyone actually has any information about this you can PM me or call

Crimestoppers or a police station, I don't see there being too many

witnesses but we are following this up with the police.

I don't know what else to say, other than try to keep safe.

I'd really appreciate intelligent responses rather than negative comments, and to those who know us, please don't post up our names or give away any of our personal details that might further impede our security (obviously), thankyou.

Good luck to you all.

Cheers.

geez thats pretty scary, I never would have thought kind of thing would happen ...but I guess until this sort of thing happens you don't think about it too much. But its good to hear that you're ok. Do the police have a good chance of tracking these people down??

I was troubled to hear of this from your passenger. Makes me feel like going out at night with a few toys from the work armoury and a can of WhupAss and trying to become the target just to make them feel a little more cautious about trying to flog someones hard earned vehicle.

omg what is this place coming to? we getting to be like sydney??

glad to hear u are ok and that no one was hurt... altho running one of them over wouldnt count and in which case we would all be happy

You guys seen that?

In a red skyline no less! Anyway wasn't anything like our situation.

model_20gx-wgn.jpg

Something like that but less recent, blue Subaru WRX wagon... probably stolen.

The one in the rear was a Hilux we think..

Geoff: Indeed I'll be looking for a Subaru everywhere I go now.. I was just thinking a week ago that maybe a gun in a closet isn't a bad thing.. but one thing I learnt in cadets is that most people who bring a gun into a bad situation usually end up with the gun taken off them very quickly and used against them.. doesn't seem to work for many americans either.

As much as I love my car the only thing on my mind was how to get myself and my passengers away from there, stuff the car, it was only good for a quick getaway, I couldn't cope without my family. It's possible they were going to grab me, I'll never know I guess.

I don't know why the cops don't do that.. use cars as bait.. I would have said the King St Bridge was a good starting point..

Ruffels: I guess you never know when you'll need it.. better to be prepared than have regrets later... shame my car doesn't come with that. I hear in Denmark or somewhere car jacking is so common they have flame throwers etc fitted to the drivers door.. what anti car jacking device is on a 33?

Foznice: probably not alot, but we have a few cops in our friends/family circle so if there's anything that can be done, it'll get done. The cop chopper was out 2 hours later looking around.. waiting to find out if something happened to someone else.

Justin: suburb doesn't indicate anything, not really the place I would have expected such an incident to occur.. Dandenong maybe but not there.

Inark: Sydney is about 4 years in front of Melb so yeh maybe  I believe its been happening frequently in Qld for a long time though. Definately didn't bother trying not to hit the wogs standing in front of my car I can tell you that much. In that situation all I could do was try to get out of there...

Thanks all for your supportive comments, it's appreciated alot. I just hope it doesn't happen to anyone else, we were very lucky to get away without a scratch.

Wish I'd hit one of them, nevermind, next time hey.

Cheers guys.

Glad you are ok and able to talk about it.

Wasnt there a thread about something similar just over a year ago on here with a skyline stopped at a level crossing and a group of guys in a holden pulling up behind it before one or all of them jumped out. I hadnt been a member of the forums long so only vaguely remember it.

Time to keep the doors locked.

Out of interest, what time are we talking on Friday night?

Glad you made it away in 1 piece.. unfortunately ppl that do those sorts of things are prepared to hurt people no matter what the price..

luckily the car that got you into it also got you out of it which is good - that and the fact they didn't pursue you..

hope this doesn't happen again to you or anyone and to everyone else - be careful..

Lucky the car was running and nice and hot..

I never would have thought when I bought my car that it might bring this kind of thing with it.. imports get stolen yes, I have an alarm that probably won't do crap blah blah but I didn't think I'd still be in it at the time...

I can't even suggest what to do if other people are in that situation.. if you give up the car voluntarily theres nothing to say they won't hurt you anyway, and if you take off like I did there's no guarantee you'll get away without getting your tyres/head shot at and not make them more enraged in the process..

Sorry to hear about this. Does anyone know how much it costs to have bulletproof windows/ or just the bulletproof tint on the windows fitted? A friend told me about an unbreakable tint he was looking at getting fitted, would that stop a gunshot?

It's be scary to see the look on the guy's face when he points the gun at your head through the window, only to see you lock the door and give him the finger. Besides shooting the tyres out, what can he do?

I'm with GTRgeoff on this one... fight fire with gunfire.

Lachie

Wow, glad to hear you're ok.

Something similar happened to me and a friend, but there were no guns or other cars, just people distracting us as others approached.

After that, I always have my doors locked, not that it'll stop a bullet :|

This is a bit different but on the same line.

This year me and my friend were on the way to my place in his 180 when some guy blocked the street off for a few min. Let him be because we were in no rush anyway he got out of the way and tryed to ram us off the road. He chassed us 4 about 10min and were going about 160km (sounds stupid but in that situation its a different story) at some stage had 000 on the phone telling us to get to the station. Almost killed us, he weged us to the side of the road between 2 polls hit the gutter hard. Anyway he even came to the from of the police station thinking we wouldnt go in. Whem we did he speed off.

Being in that situation is a very scary thing some people out there I just dont understand.

Damn, that's just crazy. glad to hear you got out of it ok! I gotta say it must be luck of the draw. I walked around Sydney centre for 2 days, for a few hours each night, and never saw anything to make me think twice. saying that, I'm now freaking about taking my car down to bris next week.

Maaaan arseholes like that piss me right off!!!! who the F*^K do they think they are.... been watching too much tv methinks. Australia is getting more and more like the cesspools of America thanks to these wannabes.

I seriously doubt that any kind of tint could stop a bullet! I think the minimum depth of bullet proof "glass" is about 10mm and the stuff costs a mint, so it's not really a viable option on any modern car.

I guess the only viable, cheap option on a modern car would be a seriously loud horn/siren ie loud enough to blow their f**king eardrums out. how cool would that be. Or you could rig up some kind of cap-spray style device that f**ks em up. but how you would prevent the spray getting into the cabin would be a pretty big issue. the Flame Throwers were in South Africa - the bmw's came (come?) with nozzles that protrude out from under the doors. at least that was the story. Now that's the shit right there.

Well now i know why all the action around my place last Friday..... Police copter was hoving over my place for 15 minutes and had a police car parked in my driveway for 30 minutes....When I left home there were at least 6 cop cars parked up my street.......

glad that you managed to escape

I have always had my doors locked ever since a junkie tried to jump into tthe car

with my bro while he was driving thru the city one night.

tis a shame that we live in a society with such incidents happening.

Obviously those who were involved had some sort of malice intent which is just a shame.

although you could think about this forever with the 'what if's' regarding their intetion. like they may of just wanted money etc who knows.

but its good to know that you are able to still make these post to let others know and to give them a heads up.

all the best :O
