hi everyone,

Just got a new set of work wheels with supposedly correct offset for a 34GTT. The wheel in question are the fronts (18x8 +35). Had brake caliper clearance issues (standard nissan calipers) and have put 5mm spacers in the front. They have now cleared the calipers but only by a hairs length! I shit you not when I say a hairs length! Wheel shop told me if they did not hit in the first place they will never do. but today under slight heavy breaking it scraped ever so slightly. I'm thinking 10mm bolt on hub adaptors...are these legal and how hard is it to find a 10mm one? Any input would be much appreciated.

Cheers

I thought an offset of +35 should be alright for gtst? Hmm... maybe it's the design of the wheel. I had the same issues when i bought my wheels, with offset +38. Had to use bolt on wheel adaptors as wheel spacers are too dangerous. I think you can probably buy them from some tyre stores. Give me a PM if you can't find any, I'll put you in touch with the place where I bought them from.

Thanks zigenGT,

yes +35 on an 8inch wide wheels would normally be correct but because of the design of these spokes they hit the calipers. Yes I know spacers are not legal, they were more a quick fix to get the car on the road, hence my question on bolt on hub adaptors...are they legal? Zigengt, what size adaptors did you use n how much did they cost?

Thanks again for the replys.

I bought 25mm bolt on adaptors  They cost $80 each fitted. Have driven 7 months no problems at all.

What car u driving? I'm thinking 25mm may be too much for a 34GTT....do 10mm ones exist? fitting a 25mm hub adaptor would make an existing wheel with +35 become +10??? Someone correct me if i'm wrong...

You cannot get 10mm bolt-on's because it needs to be wide enough to allow for the extra bolts.

PM me if you are after some spacers, I can get 20mm, 25mm or 30mm they are $85 each

My offset is +38. I was concerned the wheels might look too wide but the flush along the guards :)

Do the calipers have NISSAN cast on the top, if so file the letters off and that will gain you a couple of mil extra clearance.

hehe, I was running a set of rims on the rearonce, which were so close it shaved the paint off the "NISSAN" letters!!!!!

    • Last year I got a set of MCA street coilovers for my turbo Forester after my son hitting a concrete gutter/wall on a small bridge causing the whole drivers side suspension to get bent because the rain just made the car slide out I love them, I think they were $2400. even had a hiccup of have the wrong hub configuration (my fault) so got onto MCA and they sent the correct shock ends overnight parts from QLD, for free!  I was very impressed with their customer service and quality of the product
    • They've had some weird failures on their brake actuators. One of them was because they added some kind of lubricant to the factory fill brake fluid that aftermarket brake fluid didn't have so it would affect the seals. Another was just mysterious, probably internal corrosion or something eating away at Prius brake actuators. Parts alone for those are a few thousand USD so not a cheap fix.

    • KYBs are typically twin tube, putting them in the lower tier of desireability. Do you just want to replace worn out ones for the lowest cost? I mean, you wouldn't just replace one end of a car, if the rears are a similar age to the fronts, then they are probably nowhere near what they should be, and likely won't be great against brand new fronts. So, to spend ~$800 on 2nd tier dampers, when you could get a decent set of MCA coilovers for <$4k.....? As to the strut tops. 1st up, the Sparesbox site specifically tells you that they are not correct for an R33. Beyond that, why do you think you need them?
