I've never owned a skyline before...so i don't know much about them. Sorry about the simple questions. I'm gonna be buying an R32 in the next couple of weeks.

What's HICAS?

Do R32's have 4 wheel steer?

Do they have a speed limiter?

And is there much i should know about the R32 when buying one...what problems are common etc.

I am keen on a R32 GTS-t 93 model, 5spd, 65000kms, 3inch zorst, air pod, 17inch wheels. the rest of the car is stock. It is in immaculate condition. Is $17000 a good price?

What kind of fuel economy does the R32 have? Highway use/City Use??

Any help is appreciated.

-------------

HICAS is 4WS and its sux ass... i mean it works well i just dont like the feeling of it

Yes they have a speed limiter.... BUT if ur ECU is still stock and not been touched even tho ur car has mods it will be a good idea to get ur ECU remapped... someone can do this for u and it also gets rid of the limiters!

$17000 is ok for a car yard??? i brought in my 12/92 Model for 12k landed and complied... cost another 850 for RWC and Rego

and my car was stock as a rock apart from Adj. Shocks

Fuel economy will depend on how heavy ur foot is... its like asking how long a peice of string is.

-------------

My R33 at least is pretty thirsty on the juice. Around 160km for half a tank. 5.3km/L around town for me (much stop start), but i tend to step on it a bit and i've got a few mods prolly set to mainly HP rather than economy. But like inark says, depends how much you floor it.

R32 is lighter and 2L so probably fair bit less petrol.

17k seems too steep to me, can pick up an R33 GTS-T for that price - even from a yard.

First of all, read THIS

Some of your questions will be answered by that article..

As for HICAS, it is basically like a 4WS system BUT, it only turns the rear wheels when you are going OVER 80km/h and the wheels only turn a maximum of 1 degree.. you will barely feel it.. it sort of feels like you drift across lanes when switching lanes on the freeway or something..

YES They DO have a speed limiter.. 180 is the limit and to get around this, you can get a computer remap or you can cut one of the wires on the air flow meter (number 53)... do a search on these forums or ask one of the forumers called MEGGALA who will be able to give you heaps of info and his site is excellent...

fuel economy is dependant on your foot.

I generally get about 350kms or more from a tank.. that is mainly easy driving with occasional traffic light squirts. On the highway, I will get easy 500kms.

The article should be able to tell you more goods and bads about the car..

enjoy... and welcome to the skyline world..

sorry to hijack your thread but since where talking about hicas...

i have a question, ok, some guy was selling his gtst on here a few months back, and said that he removed the hicas..

do you think this is worth while? maybe lightening the weight(i dont know how much hicas weighs etc)...

or saving tyres etc? coz i have heard from a mate with a late model silvia with hicas that his rear tyres wear the tread down in weird ways...

it only saves u about 20kgs i think...

ECU remapped cost me 300 (swap over) from Dr_Drift might be more from workshops

good for gains and getting rid of those pesky limiters

I wouldn't worry about the speed limiter until u mod it all up and want to drive 180km/hr+

By then you'll probably want a full new ECU anyhow to handle all the mods more nicely and that will disable the speed cut anyway.

I wouldn't remove HICAS for weight reasons (there is plenty of more heavy stuff u can get rid of) - more handling...see the performance section, i'm trying to disable mine and see how it handles

Boost guage in the dash is just there for decoration really :( Its pretty inaccurate going on mine. You will most likely want to install a new boost guage (around $80 to $400 for the best ones) to get an accurate reading, and see below:

I think out of the factory the turbo is set fairly low to develop max of 7psi and that is what the display goes up to. To get more than 7psi out of the turbo, you will need to install a boost controller (from $100 to around $1000 for the best ones).

Predator,

Yeah thanks...the R32 i'm keen on buying had a HKS pod and 3inch zorst from back of turbo, so i think the boost maybe around 10pound. Which is what i would be happy with. The turbos on them aren't the best, and prolly wouldn't cope with more than 12psi for a long time.
