Hi all,

I'm helping to get hold of chicane officials for Taga West in September. Presently there is only 8 teams of officials and we need another 10 to be able to cover this event.

Chicanes are required to keep the stage average speed below 132km/h as required by CAMS and the FIA. WA does not have that many tight twisty roads (compared to Tassie for example) so we will need between 16 to 19 teams to set-up the required number of chicanes for the event, something like about 75 in total over the 4 days.

Each chicane team will be made up of 3 people, one is the senior post marshal SPM (you!), another is the bollard replacement marshal (BRM) and the last is a flag marshal. Unless you are keen to join up with another person that you know, already on this list, I would like you to think about getting a couple of your friends/family involved so you can be out there with good company and enjoy yourself at the same time.

The itinerary shows a few stages are repeated and a few others are spread out across the region, so if you have any preference to either stay in one place (with one set-up) and watch the cars pass you a few times, or travel around (set up, pack away, move, repeat) and see as many different stages as possible.

The details for training and events are as follows. Please note that training is not compolsory, so if you can't make both dates you can still be involved.

Training - AHG Driver Training Center, Grogan Road, Perth Airport

7th August (Sunday) - 11am

14th August (Sunday) - 11am

Chicane Team Meeting - Venue TBA

30th August (Tuesday) - 7:30pm

Targa West Event

8th September (Thursday) - 3:30pm to finish

9th September (Friday) - 7:30am to finish

10th September (Saturday) - 8:00am to finish

11th September (Sunday) - 8:00am to finish

Please contact Mitch Templar on 0418 959 023 or myself via PM to register your interest and he will email you the appropriate forms, itinerary, maps ect. Please get involved if you can.

Hey Cam,

I'm already a part of one of those 8 chicane teams. You going down to AHG for the 7th? If so would be good to catch u there.

Good idea posting this up cause i think they are struggling to fill places.

Were you at the first meeting on 12th of July...Anyway will say high if I spot you. I'll be driving the line down there on Sunday.

Hi all again..

Just an update on this. I've just been to the first training and it looks like we should be very close to the action. If any of you can give up some time to support this event I'd urge you to give it a go.

Masahiro/Col - good to meet you guys. See you at the next meet. Shame I didn't get to check out your FD Col - I've had an unhealthy hankering for an FD for a while now..

Morlock - didn't meet you there - though hopefully will next time.

Cam

yeah nice to meet you colin and cam.. it was better than i expected cos i thought it would be all old euros but seems like there are enough japanese and domestic cars plus the porsche!

well see you guys this weekend and for those who are thinking about it do get involved cos the line up of cars are modern japanese, european and aussie muscle to satisfy any car enthusiast... didnt see any skyline though....

masahiro

Just had the training information for this Sunday. It's running from 11am till 12pm and we'll be hearing from the clerk of courses for Targa Tasmania. Come down and get involved if you can.

Hi guys - just an update on Targa West - the official course cars are going to be skylines! Should be a great event with over 60 cars entered. Try to get out and support it if you can.

Wells Glover !!

How fast was that stage !! ;):)

Lets just say the auto wrx camera car found the speed cut for quite a while..

Hehehe

Cheers

Ken

Ken - Wells Glover was one of my chicane stages. Standing on the outside of the corner at the 200m board is a silly thing to do, but the cars looked fantastic heading towards you at 180+!

And yea - it never happened. I'm not a good judge of speed and we definitely didn't watch from the outside of any corners.. :)

    • Hey all, my 2004 Nissan Skyline 350GT overheated the other day with coolant boiling and leaking out of the coolant reservoir when I was parking. So today, I started it up again just to see if it was a thermostat/head gasket issue. After about 20 mins of running, temps were normal again, no coolant was leaking out and the upper reservoir hose was warm but my engine suddenly cut off. I checked the oil dipstick and cap when it was running and there was no white foamy residue and the exhaust did not have white smoke. I tried starting up the car again but it would only crank, similar to when I had a camshaft sensor issue just that now there’s no check engine light on the dash. Any ideas? Unfortunately I don’t have an OBD2 that can read the Nissan's programme.
    • Bump on this to not make another post, had a ‘head drain’ leak on me and have the engine out as we speak. Planning on just putting a new freeze plug back in , plug the tapped holes and just be done with that headache.    Now I still want to relieve pressure to allow oil to pass down the blocks returns easier. I’ve seen catch cans with multiple vents help folks with this issue on this forum.  I’m wanting to make my own. I have some pictures here of my setup if anyone can help how I should plumb and design the catch can I would deeply appreciate it !   rb25 Oil upgrades: 1.0mm restrictor n1 pump/billet gears extended crank collar  extended sump with trap doors/w welded fitting
    • The Frenchy's kit is the way to go forward. A modern compressor that weighs about 1/2 as much, is at least twice as efficient, and will do a good job on R134a. And of course the kit has everything else you need to connect it up and have it work properly.
    • Hey all , I am in the process of having the AC system in my r32 GTST converted from r12 to r134a and I’m being told my compressor has gone bad and I will need a new one. I was wondering if anybody has any suggestions for what is the best route to go aside from dropping $1500 on a new oem one? I did see that Frenchy’s performance garage offers a kit to mount a Toyota compressor, has anybody actually used this kit on their car? Or is there anywhere I could purchase just a clutch? Any help is appreciated.
    • Well, your RB20 ECU loom won't have wires for the boost solenoid, that boost sensor, and possibly one or two other things. There could be differences in seemingly random things like the charcoal canister purge solenoid, because the 25DET has to handle boost in the vacuum system and the 20DE does not. I don't know - I haven't looked. It is very likely that all the most important things are same-same, being the main sensors like AFM, CAS, etc, and the injectors and ignition. Not that you'll need the AFM for the Haltech anyway. I would suggest that you would seriously want to sit down with the pinouts for both ECUs and just go through them and highlight green what is the same, orange what is different/missing, and make a plan from there. It's not going to be difficult. It will either be the same or need to be fixed.
