Handbrake Light On

hey

this arvo when i was driving, i noticed my handbrake light turned on by itself.

then i went around a roundabout (fairly quickly), and the light turned off.

it kept doing this til it stayed on permanently..

what could be wrong here?

i also pulled the handbrake up a couple times while the car was moving, and it didnt help

There is a switch on the bottom of the hand brake, inside the boot, sounds like this needs some adjustment or it is faulty, nothing serious and very easy to fix, give it a go yourself.

ok well tonight i did a launch, and floored it once, and both times the car behaved differently..

when i floored it in 1st, at high rpms (around 5-6), car started vibrating heavily. it did that again on the launch..

it felt like it was getting held back a little..

but i'll try that tomorrow morning b4 i get too worried, Al, thanks.

Sorry to say buddy, that sounds like you have a major fault, if what you have perceived is correct . What I suggested was a faulty or out of alignment switch, this will not effect your driving.

Note: Your interpretation of how the car acted could be wrong. If you launch most Skylines at that rpm they will either do a "stand-still" or axle tramp and shake the car violently.

Of course you are doing these tests off public roads .

yeah..

the only one that really worried me was when i floored 1st gear and it started tramping on high rpm

(havent fiddled with the switch under the handbrake yet - just woke up)

As well as the switch under the handbrake lever, check your brake fluid level. There have been a few guys on here that have had the light come on and had low brake fluid.

My brother-in-law wondered why his was on (R32) and found out the reason when he went up the ass of a car at an orange traffic light.

when i first got my 32 the handbreak light was on all the time but it was bcoz the break pads where shagged i dnt think this is the same here but thats another reason

it turns out it was the brake fluid...
