I tried using the search option but I would get a error message everytime. Is it truth or urban legend that you cannot have a atmo blow of valve on a R33 skyline gts-t when the car is stock? Im asking because im hearing all these conflicting stories. I went to the autosalon and I saw a skyline that was stock engine wise all is had was a 3 inch turbo back exhaust and a hks ssq blow off valve, the owner wasnt there i would have loved to ask him how he did it without the car running funny or stalling. This is the kind of simple set up id love to have but ive been told awww you got to have a front mount, you would need to change your fuel pump. Are these just b.s statements. Or can i have my car running 100% fine with just a exhaust and a ssq bov ( i love the sound). I have a gfb stealth but when i had it installed the car kept stalling so i took it off. Can a skyline have a bov without the car running funny or stalling with just a exhaust or do you need to do other mods. Sorry im sure this has been covered but I cant find anything to help me here.

is there anyways bypassing the stalling or rough idle scenario? Or is it just a given?? I want a no problems set up which includes a hks ssq bov and a 3 inch turbo back for the extra power. Ive been told the hks has some special mechanism which prevents stalling or any other probs. In other words how can i get this setup to run problem free or is this just something I cant have but somehow others have achieved.

well seeing as though the owner wasnt around, how do you know it drove ok?

Highly likely he had issues and probably didnt even realise.

Just thinks its normal.

I believe you can tune out most of it with an SAF-C

The car expects a plumback to be there.

If you remove it you must go about and spend money to make it think otherwise.

BOV = wank factor anyhow. There is no performance NEED, only a owner want

Do you really want to know you've taken your foot off the throttle?

Or do the 15yr old chicks down your street get off on hearing em?

:)

You could get a bov with an adjustable valve spring like the blitz dual drive. I had 1 on my completely stock S15 before I switched to the R33. Had a heap of problems with it stalling as soon as you depressed the clutch pedal coming to lights etc. If you tighten the spring with the allen key provided, you could adjust the tension and it then fixed the problem of stalling.

its Urban legend (in my case anyway), im running HKS SSQV, exhuast and air filter and alittle bit of boost, my idle is sweet as and the car never stalls on it self, not one problem :(

Nah man im not doing this to impress little girls. Im doing it because I like the sound of a BOV with an exhaust. Wank factor?? So many people have em just let them be I guess. I just want a simple 3 inch system with a BOV. Where's the crime? at the moment I have a brand new GFB stealth which i had installed but damn thing made my car stall. I can adjust the springs or whatever there called but not to sure how to do it. So i figured id by a HKs ssq as ive heard some peeps with it without a prob. Can it be done?

I am fairly new to the world of turbos... but my understanding is that unless you blank up the recirc pipe the car will stall (with an atmo BOV of course)

heaps of ppl have atmo bovs... and they run fine. u definitely dont need engine management to run an atmo bov

the only other prob u may have would relate to a lack of spring tension sealing the bov at idle. but u can manually tighten that up.

Agreed, its an urban legend. You can have a completely stock R33 and still run an atmo BOV.

I have a fairly stock car except a bit of boost and 3" exhaust and run an atmo bov just fine without stall, you just need to get it to a good tuner/mechanic like I did as they know what hoses to block off and plumb what to where.

Yeah its wank factor hehe but I love my BOV, it doesnt go off under 3000RPM or normal driving unless I gas it so I can live with it. When you have a turbo its great to remind your self with a nice pssht every now and then hehe whats the harm in that :P

The only problems I have is the exhaust pops occasionally on gear changes which it didnt do before which is normal from what i've read and can be fixed with an SAFC

Exhaust pops ay. So your backfiring. I guess you would need to adjust the tension thingos. I was reading on the GFB website this is the case. So I can attach my Stealth FX BOV even though my car is stock then. but it needs to have the majority of the air going through the plumback side and only abit to the atmo side. I also need to make sure that I tighten the spring valves also. Am i sort of going along the right track. If i can reattach my BOV and go to the exhaust .place and get an exhaust done i'll be a very happy man. Damn cold when I first warm up my car and start to drive when its a heaps cold night I always have white smoke coming from the rear at the first traffic lights Im thinking its the cold and hot air meeting but whats the mystery to me is why does it only happen then and when I drive around its all good at the other lights. Its still the same hot air meeting the cold air. I find it quite strange.

i have the ssqv on my r32 gtst its fairly standerd it does stall sometimes but i was told that the prob goes away if u run higher boost mybe iam wrong but i think the spring in them are to stroung for standerd boost

:P

sooooo i jst got a Blitz bov... and my cars practically stock ( 3" exhaust and pod ), so its bs on the stall thing if you get someone who actually knows what there doing to put it on the car???

btw whys an aftermarket b.o.v a wank factor, alota people have them and i reckon they sound good as, plus it lets people know theres a snail under your bonnet :D the only wank bov around is those electric ones for non-turbo cars..... THATS a wank factor.

If you got the blitz dual drive you will have no problem at all. Once it is installed you can adjust the spring tesion yourself as its really simple. Take it for a drive and put your foot on the clutch while your cruising. If it stalls, wind up the tension with the allen key (thats how I set the tension on mine). You will get to a point where it will work great and no stalling problems :)

I am sure there are plenty of other bov's that you can adjust the spring tension, but I had this one and know it will work fine on a completely stock car.

    • I am using Motec M150.  I am not working on the car myself actually.  My workshop is giving all these info, they are quite reputable in the industry and are very familiar with Motec and RBs and have done a few big setups with VCam and single turbo on RBs.  In fact, they built and tuned my engine from day one.  But they are stumped with my engine at the moment and cannot work out how come the compression is so low with the VCam. They told me that they have now swapped in some Kelford cams (without the VCam) and can achieve around 130psi compression and the low end torque is better, but now the engine is doughy as.  It boosts and peaks at more than 1000rpm slower, with twin HKS GTIII RS, it doesn't get full boost until over 5000rpm. I have always thought the VCam was a bit disappointing at the low rpm. To a point I had to ride the clutch a fair bit to get up a small hill from stand still.  That was when I had a clutch.  Now changing to a 8HP, I don't have that luxury and this problem has become a major issue. I am beginning to think the VCam never work since the day it was installed.  Maybe it was just sitting at the most advanced point, that is why it went good at top end but very ordinary at the bottom.  Therefore, with the help of the Holinger 6 speed and paddle shift, as long as it was moving, it drove pretty good.
    • yeah, there's a country that recently started importing Skylines, I blame them.
    • I don't have a printer, but could at least attempt to make a printable model.
    • If you do make them, im sure you would have a number of buyers.. Every GTR I've been in have rattly door windows
