Hi,

Whats the deal with bodykits and compliance, would i be able to comply a 33 with a bodykit, or will i have to bring it back to stock factory body kit. Here is a photo of what im looking at, i dont really like the kit but i will swap it for a stock one if i buy it.

Thanks guys,

Paradizzle.

I'm not a 100% sure, but I would say that you will need to get the stock kit on the grounds that you have to get stock rims for SEVS compliance also.

But from what you said it sounds like you want the stock kit anyway so maybe having to restore the kit to stock won't be such a problem for you.

hey mate, there is no way that you would have 2 change the body kit, sevs is mainly focused on mechanical modifications and things like rollcages. you should have no problem . FYI i have just imported a 300zx so i know the deal. if you are in perth i would highly reccomend AutoWorx to do your compliance.

have fun:)

ey guys thanks for the replys, yer im not a fan of this kit especially witht the stock rims. Maybe if it had 17's then mayb it would look ok, i much prefer the stock series 2 kit though. Hopefully someone will want to swap if i get this.

Im in Vic mate, probably get compliance done at JapCars in Fawkner anyone have any feedback on these guys?

Thanks,

Paradizzle.

well thats weird,

compliancing is the process of making a car roadworthy,

and defects are issued when a car is unroadworthy.

well my mate just got a defect for a non standard front & rear bumper, amongst other things...

sounds like more double standards with aussie road rules

i very much doubt you need stock rims for compliance, yes you may have a problem with a bodykit ONLY if it is to low and you cant drive it over the pits. call paul at autoworx he will let you know the deal give him a call on (08) 9409 2445

srimes101

i dont know the black and white rules about defects and compliancing, and it seems more and more that no one not even police and rta know!

my mate got done for a bunch of things, but the wording of each individual defect was:

Non-standard front bar

Number plate not mounted correctly

Wheels exceeding size

Non-standard steering wheel

Non-standard exhaust - and too high decibel reading (funny they didn't even start the engine or rev it)

Air pod filter

Non-standard gear knob

Non-standard seats

Non-standard tail lights

Non-standard head lights

Rear wing - pedestrian safety

Non-standard suspension

Ground clearance too low

Gauge mounted to A pillar

Rear bodykit overhang - pedestrian safety

so he got done for ground clearance and kit seperately..just saying, make sure you find out FOR SURE from a govt. body so you know definately if there will be problems.

i honestly wouldnt be surprised if all aftermarket kits were a defect because they are made of fibreglass or carbonfibre or similar. not ABS plastic like the originals so you have totally removed any form of flexibility and durability from the bumpers reducing flex and creating possible dangers for pedestrians etc in an accident as they are sharp and brittle when damaged etc etc...

ADR's are so tight realistically you cant even change the light bulbs in your car! it more than likely already has the brightest possible bulbs and any brighter/whiter are not ADR compliant.

just check out the phillips ads in mags. the bulbs that are actually white enough to bother changing to are not ADR compliant, and they legally have to tell you this so its ur problem not theirs.

anyways a bit off topic, sorry.

i would suggest calling the compliance places and check. but mind you there are always dodgy ones who will let ur car pass, as long as you pay cash...

oh man thats a lot of defects,

i have been stopped with almost all of the listed things before and the cops didnt even say anything, guess its just luck. i know they are harshe when it does come 2 airpods/tyres and ground clearance. but the rest is just bad luck. seems to be the price that we all must pay for driving high performance vehicles that arent australian or korean overpriced junkers.

In NSW you need a eng cert for any modifcation from factory..

in other states, the rules differ, but they can sometime just issue a defect for non-standard items. Cops are getting lazy and arrogant these days as there are no checks and balances, and are starting to write these sorts of tickets more and more.

I seen a pinkish-white 33 that was complied with a grey wing, black front bar & white skirts. Everyone knows the bodykit is going straight back on, but the car needs to be completely stock.

ey guys thanks for the replys, yer im not a fan of this kit especially witht the stock rims. Maybe if it had 17's then mayb it would look ok, i much prefer the stock series 2 kit though. Hopefully someone will want to swap if i get this.

Paradizzle,

I bought my car through JapCars, 94 r33 gts-t, I picked it out from has-nihon in Japan, had it brought over complianced and rwc through them, very good service before-during-aftersale, ask for Dennis. Pm if you want more details

Yer ill be getting complaince through them, have organised it.

I am not buying the car mentioned above with the bodykit, my supplier in japan inspected it and it had work done to the diff to enable bigger wheels to be put on?? to dodgey for me.

How much did u pay for your 33 in yen FOB price in Japan?

Is the road worthy included in the compliance cost?

Thanks,

Paradizzle.

Firstly a 15 year old car is different to doing a 1996 R33, front bar has to be standard but side skirts and so on are ok.

The vehicle has to be standard, how it left the factory if coming under SEVS, some people have the evidence for certain parts being non standard but they have the evidence for it.

You have 8 workshops doing R33 and do the ring around as prices are getting lower, this link will give you all the info needed http://raws.dotars.gov.au/rawswebpublic/rawpubmain.asp also speak to technical section at Welshpool and ask who they think does a good job.

I pit pass free of charge if I comply the car and others charge upto $150 and their compliance cost is the same.

PARRA...

THE COMPLIANCE SYSTEM IS CALLED R.A.W.S.

THE CAR HAS TO BE 100% FACTORY STANDARD TO BE COMPLIED, BODYWISE AND MECHANICALLY.

THERE ARE VERY FEW AND VERY MINOR EXCEPTIONS.

THE SIDESKIRTS ON YOUR CAR ARE TOO FAR FROM STOCK

HOWEVER, THEY DONT HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THEY CAN JUST COME OFF FOR COMPLIANCE.

SOME IMPORTERS/AGENTS WILL HIRE YOU THE STOCK GEAR TO GET YOUR CAR COMPLIED. WITH THE RIGHT GUIDANCE, YOU'LL HAVE NO PROBLEMS.

ONCE A CAR, IMPORT OR NOT, HAS BEEN REGISTERED IN A STATE, IT BECOMES LIABLE UNDER THAT STATE'S REGULATIONS, JUST LIKE A COMMODORE OR A CAMRY.

EVERY STATE HAS CERTAIN RULES REGARDING MODIFICATIONS TO ANY CAR. IMPORT OR OTHERWISE.

THE COPS CAN NOT DEFECT YOU FOR AFTERMARKET FITTINGS UNLESS THEY ARE EXCEEDING/CONTRAVENING THE STATE MAXIMUM TOLLERANCES.

JUST LIKE ANY OTHER CAR.

UNLESS OF COURSE THE COP IS A VINDICTIVE SONOFFA...

(OR DAUGHTEROFFA...)

BUT THERE'S NOT MUCH WE CAN DO ABOUT THAT.

I'VE BEEN DRIVING MILD LOOKING Z's & R33's FOR 10 YEARS AND NEVER GOT DEFECTED... //idiotic comment removed. you want to brag about how cool you are breaking the law, do it somewhere else - Vijay //

HERE'S A PIC...

I have to have standard rims for my Stagea to be complied. Did your 300sx come in under the 15yo rule?
