This morning a guy at work mentioned his mate had the standard intercooler on his GTiR (normally top mount for those who don't know) mounted in the FMIC position with quite a substantial power gain.

I would assume that power gains may be had with TMIC cars by doing this conversion, but my question is what about front mounting a standard Intercooler in an R33...again I assume it would run a little cooler, but is it really worthwhile ?????

Has anyone tried it ???

if so, what were the results ????

My other question is....I was just going to get a seconhand standard intercooler...possibly a GTR or Supra IC for my R33 GTSt...whats the best option ???? or is it better to go aftermarket ????

Yeah, I wouldn't bother about relocating the stock cooler. The thing that sucks about them is the presure drop accross them..

Save your buckaroonies and get a secondhand one or a hybrid.

A mate just picked up a nice one that's 600x250x75 with nice cast end tanks that are like the GTR endtanks, for $550 !!!

And I was real lucky to get mine for $640, 700x300x75

the standard cooler on the side or at the front is still getting just as much air.

moving it will make no difference.

there is a GTR cooler for sale on the forums somewhere for about $670 I think he wants..

It's from an R33 GTR.

Considering that wreckers ask about $900 for a GTR cooler, that is pretty good.

I think that it is also polished.

Longer piping results in more lag. You may gain little at the top (which I doubt) but it'll take longer to spool up.

That's what i thought, but when I got mine in it's almost the opposite.

I don't know how or why, but it is. Spools up at around the same spot, just harder now..

Have you seen the size of a GTiR Cooler..

Its bloody HUUUGE considering

I wouldn't worry too much about the length of pipes, I think that if you make them large and reduce the bends then the benefits will be much greater than the lag experienced. I was surprised at the difference the piping made, but I wouldn't bother for a stock cooler.

See'ya:burnout:
