Folks,

I've recently filled up at one of those 'G' Petrol stations, with the (claimed) 98octane fuel. Soon after that the car started coughing, spluttering, and losing power. I'm sure it's bad fuel cause some other peopl have had the same problem.

Can the bad fuel harm the engine ? How ?

What do I do know ?? Short of draining the tank, is there a way I should be driving ?? Off boost , on boost ?? How can I increase fuel consumption to get rid of the bad fuel ?

I understand that they put ethanol in the fues and low compression engines don't like ethanol - so should I drive arounf at hight revs & boost ?

I put a bottle of nulon octane boost and cleaner in - but it made no difference.

Now, I had driven around and emptied half a tank, and re-filled woth Optimax...

Thanks in advance...

I'd just keep driving a bit taking it fairly easy...then keep putting in some decent fuel 'till the crap stuff gets slowly diluted

Is Optimax the best? People have gone on about BP Ulimate or whatever it is but when i read the meter it says 95RON and i know Optimax is 98RON. Personally i'm getting the impression my car runs smoother and has more power running Optimax..

i also use optimax but i always get a black rear bar from the fuel but its the best fuel ive found besides avgas but thats a bit to much for every day driving some ppl say its no good for the cat and 02 sensor but it works good in mine hasnt done any damage yet

as for the bad fuel try and get some out depending on how much you put in and keep your foot off the gas till yourve done at least 500 kms using good fuel or pinging will do damage and then it gets expensive

Predator what do you mean by the meter it says 95RON?

I used to fill up at BP when I first got the car thinking that I was getting BP Ultimate. It wasn't until I went to get a tune that I realised I was slapping in the 95 BP Premium not the Ultimate.

Only BP Service stations that say they have BP ULTIMATE written under the pump has BP Ultimate.. All the others are 95RON.

Personally I've found Mobil 8000 lately to give more of a punch in the back where as during winter BP 98 seemed to be better?!?!

Go figure maybe BP changed something recently.

Apparently Optimax has a slighly less octane than BP Ultimate but Optimax has a higher clorific value or something that makes the fuel deliver more power.

Not everything is about the RON level I guess.

SO back on the RON, BP Ultimate you are supposed to be able to run a little more boost and timing but does it make up for the extra power than the Optimax with the lower Octane level delivers?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Maybe I'm being ignorant here, but wouldn't the difference (in rwkw) between Mobil 8000, Utlimate, Optimax be 2/10ths of Fark all ??

To my mind ( now that I have experienced farked fuel) I'd prefer to get a more reliable fuel with no crap ethanol in it.

Compared to the dodgy fule I got, any of the above woud be heaven - You know, I can't even slip the clutch in 3rd & 4th like I used to be able to do !!

Cheers,
