Hi guys,

Im still only new to the Skyline scence, being a previous owner of a VL i am still in the same family of engines which is great ;) Anyway i have a question regarding which is the best turbo for me to use on my R33. Currently it is running completely stock turbo... just got a full 3inch mendrel bend exhaust system and also running a pod filter. Now at home i have got a T3/T4 hiflowed turbo which i was going to use on my VL, but now that i dont have that anymore i was wondering if it would be better to run on my R33 gts-t? I am getting a front mount cooler fitted next week also and a boost controller, so i was wanting to swap the turbo over aswell while its at the shop if its better.....

here is some info in respects to the T3/T4:

high flow hybrid T3/T4 Turbo! It flows around 500hp and has a garret actuator for high boost control. its got a new o2 sensor also. The turbo has a larger intake and has high flo wheels. setup is basically all brand new, Turbo is only 1 month old!

So compared to the stock turbo which one will be better.. please give answers both for running stock boost and also increased boost levels.

Using your hybrid t3/t4 hiflow would give you better results and even more so after increasing boost (due to the crappy ceramic exhaust wheel of the stock turbo), but what would be even better is hiflowing your stock r33 gts-t turbo :D

SO if you say the stock turbo has a crappy ceramic wheel.. then how would it be better to hiflo that? If my t3/t4 already is hiflo... surely it is much better as it is also bigger.. or is its spool time alot slower or something?

If you already have the t3/4 highflow bolt it on and see how it goes.

Obviously you will require some intake plumbing mods and a new dump pipe as the vlt is different in this area.

The rb25 highflow will simply bolt on.

The better ways to go about a larger turbo it is to buy a GT30 core (turbine and comp wheel) then machine up your comp and turbine housings to suit.

Or.. ignore machining up your comp cover and use the gt30 .6 or .7 comp cover to allow for higher efficiency's at high boost.

Myself.. I'm grabbing a GT30 700382-12 CHRA (core, turbine wheel, comp wheel & .6 comp cover) and then machining up my Vg30deT turbine housing that measures up around the .7 a/r mark.

It should make around 280rwkw without the need for silly boost and pull strong from 3300rpm (rb30det).

OK so i thought that the T3/T4 would just bolt straight up cause its the same flange?? But you reckon that the dump pipe will be different? What if i use the dump pipe that came with it that was made for the VLT? Is the reason that the T3/T4 turbo is not as good as the R33 stock turbo because it is not ball-bearing? I'm just a bit confused as to why the T3/T4 isnt going to be better hands down! here is a pic of the t3/t4 i will be using it still has the VLT exhaust manifold bolted to it, but obviously this will come off so it can be bolted onto the R33 manifold.

The vlt t3/4 will make more power than the 'stock' rb25 turbo.

So it is better so to speak.

Bush bearing vs ball bearing really isn't a big factor, it has more to do with the wheels used.

Bush being half the price (~1k for a highflow) vs 2k for a BB highflow is the other difference.

Ball bearing turbo's will last a lot longer where as bush generally need a reco every 30-40k or so when used in high boost applications.

Thanks for your responses and helping me clear things up.... so what about spool up times? Like now i know that the t3/t4 will make more power, will the power still come on just as quick at same revs? also will the dump pipe that is in the picture be suitable to use? the dumpipe has also been ported for hiflow.
